    Super Smash Bros. Brawl

Anyone remember those weird crossover cartoons way back when? Like, every character from Hanna-Barbera would come out of the woodwork and stuff, or Roger Rabbit, or that one anti-Drug cartoon that had Ninja Turtles AND Bugs Bunny? Yeah, that's the sort of weird vibe I get from seeing all these characters together. Edit: Also, it seems like Captain Falcon is now a definite. Not only is it on that photo-site, but Scott Ramsoomair of VG Cats is putting up pictures with him as well. So anyone worried about him being in the game, it seems like he made it.

Only in America can a centre-right candidate be called a socialist Centre-Right? I understand the differences across nations, but calling Hillary Clinton "Centre-Right" in any sort of spectrum is pretty questionable. Smitty: I understand. From the quotes I've read, he started changing away from the regular party when it came to Kosovo, which he voted against but wanted to stay in until they won. I'm not sure I'd call it "Hypocrisy"... well, yeah, I'd call it hypocrisy. Stakes being different or not, he really should come forth and rectify this a bit better than his quick little statement on Meet the Press. I do agree with him: I didn't support the war, but we have an obligation to stay until we fix things. Frankly, I have a lot of hope for things Post-Bush for just about any of the main candidates, if only because Bush's absolute refusal to give ground on anything has been, from my point of view, the most dangerous hindrance to a successful strategy.

Shoulda went out and gotten Mats Sundin with all those pretty pretty draft picks.

Well, for those of you not sold on Hillary or Obama, who would you like as a Democratic Candidate? Perhaps it's just me, but I'd actually be a bit excited if Obama got the nomination.

I guessed correctly at McCain, simply because I'm fairly sure Smitty 1) Wouldn't bring it up if it wasn't a pro-War guy saying it and 2) McCain is the only Congress guy who unwaveringly supports the war on the Republican Side. And looking it up, that's the case. Both are from the early 90 ('93 and '94) regarding Somalia and Haiti. Apparently "Meet the Press" brought it up to him already and he said that he considered Somalia not in the vital "National Security Interests" like Iraq is, which is... yeah. That's a bit of a hit there. To play Republican's Advocate, though: international politics changed a bit after the 9/11. Cliche, yes, but it is true in the fairest sense. Somalia didn't have nearly the same amount of importance as Iraq does today on multiple levels. Comparing two quotes about two completely different conflicts with much different consequences is unfair; are we honestly going to say that Haiti and Somalia are even close to losing Iraq? Frankly, the whole "flip-flop" wasn't that fair to Kerry, and I'm not sure it's really fair to McCain, especially in the situation here. Marvin: You should go back to predicting football games. You were much more competent at that. And you have to love Narcoleptic Jumper trying to defend Kucinich and Paul as not being extremists when the former believes in a 0% unemployment rate and the other is a bimetallist. No extremism there, nosiree!

    The Dark Knight

Considering the much different take on the Joker and the much more serious tone of the current Batman films, I think he could definitely get one. Even before his death I was thinking he might get a nomination.

Another Red Wing report card, and I'll add another category as well. Offense: Zetterberg and Datsyuk finally come into their own and showing why the Red Wings took so much time with them. They are scoring like mad, it's not just any sort of scoring, either: It's timely scoring. It's sad that they don't market Zetterberg like they do other players, as he could easily be a superstar if the NHL wanted to give him a little bit of spotlight. Holmstrom is doing what he does best, which is all that needs to be said. The second line coming into its own is another great thing to see, with Cleary becoming a real threat along with Hudler and Filppula. Grade: A Defense: I hate it when people describe Anaheim as the best Defense out there. Lidstrom, Rafalski, Kronwall, and Chelios is arguably the best top 4 out there, with ridiculous offensive power to compliment their defensive skill. Lebda and Lilja are better than they were last year. Credit also has to be given to the two-way play of all four offensive sets. Grade: A Goaltending: Osgood is having a "Vezina Nominee" year, or just about. Hopefully he can keep this up through the playoffs. Hasek is starting to show his age, and he worries me more than he normally does. His slow start is starting to fade away with solid play, but I'm not quite sure that he's back to his old self. I can't imagine him playing another year, especially if the Wings win the Cup. Hopefully Howard will be ready next season to start sharing duty with Osgood and grow into his role as a future starter. Grade: A- Coaching: Mike Babcock is probably the best coach out there today. He's got this Detroit team playing up to its potential, and you can feel that they have more to give out. The guy feels like a Hall of Fame coach the way he can get everything out of a team. His record speaks for itself. Grade: A Front Office: Ken Holland made probably the best move of the year in Brian Rafalski, but you almost expect that from Ken nowadays. My only problem with him is that we need to pick up more of a physical force. Dallas Drake and Aaron Downey are okay stop-gaps, but Drake is old and it shows while Downey is offensively very limited, which prevents him from playing more time in the Detroit system. Plus, as much as he starts fights he doesn't tend to win them. That part of the equation is the only thing stopping me from giving him an "A". Grade: B+ Overall: You can't argue with their success. Last year they showed that they could win in the playoffs and survive rough play. If Schneider hadn't gotten his hand broken from that puck, Detroit might have won the Cup. This year they seem much more driven, much more dominant. This isn't a team in transition anymore; it's closing in on the final product. Grade: A

    Super Smash Bros. Brawl

I love the fact that the site reads like it's a fan-subbed anime... With less swearing, of course. Gives it a certain amount of charm. And the colors of that stage are... odd. Way too desert-like. Great idea, but I hope they change the visuals a bit.

    Heath Ledger dead

How is that even possible? This concerns me as well. I'm known to partake of Tylenol PM fairly regularly as a cheap, quick sleep aid. Maybe I should lay off the stuff? RIP though to Heath. Well, if you look at the article I posted earlier (Which has subsequently been posted here by a few people), it would suggest that he took more than a recommended dose as it didn't seem to be working. Him taking two sleeping pills, only to wake up suddenly an hour later would suggest to me that he might have been in the middle of a "Coma-Awake-Coma" sequence that the article described him sort of going through and his body just kicked out on him after he went to sleep the second (Or third... or fourth) time and never woke up again. To me, that's the most logical answer. And to just to say, UZI is even more retarded than I thought he was in the actual Dark Knight thread.

    Heath Ledger dead

Mary Kate .... WTF?!?! Yeah pills were there. I'm just saying that whenever a celeb dies, the thought is, usually, drugs or alcohol or partying. Pills couldve been someone Else's for all we know - or sleeping pills - or a plant by some killer. My theory is a serial killer; too many coincidences between Heaths' death and Renfro's. Stop it. Stop what? I can have theories too, same as anyone. There are no theories here. Just bullshit idiotic blithering psychobabble from someone who has a track record of saying ridiculous things. Both of the deaths between Renfro and Ledger are unrelated and the very notion of a pill planting celebrity murderer is one of the most insane comments ever made. Seconded.

Well, CNN is confirming that the pills were over-the-counter Sleeping Medication.

    Heath Ledger dead

Well, it might be drugs... but not in the way you guys are thinking. Look at this, and you can see that he's been experiencing severe insomnia, taking Ambien to get to sleep (And not successful, as the article notes). I'd wager a guess and think that it was an accidental overdose on sleeping pills. And what is there left to finish for the Dark Knight? It's been in post-production for a while now; I'm not sure what scenes he'd have left. At any rate, that's really the least concerning thing about this entire event. R.I.P. Heath. You were truly on your way to becoming a legendary actor.

Hey, now that we are closing in on the All-Star break, I'd like to see how people are grading their teams, conference, whatever. Interested how people think how some teams are living up to expectations.

ESPN sucks, so do thread closers

Alright, Sportscenter, I know this is an 1 1/2 Hour edition, but that doesn't justify showing me the same football clips and analysis for 50 minutes of it.

    Superbowl XLII

Well, without Farve in the Super Bowl, I can now root for the Patriots. Yes, some of the Pats fans are beyond irritating (Star Ocean-esque, really), but I have the one reason anyone who isn't from Boston to root for the Pats: To shut Mercury Morris the fuck up. Jesus Christ, that guy is the most annoying guy I've ever had to listen to. Watching the Pats take away his claim to fame with an even more impressive undefeated season and to allow the '72 Dolphins to sink back into obscurity instead of having them be a seasonal fixture with their champagne and jackassery. So yeah. Go Pats go. *Goes back to watching Hockey*

Is it better than the actual show? I mean, the show just irritates me, but mangas and animes can be much different.

    OAO Anime/Manga Thread

Just as a point: Ichigo flying during the Soul Society Arc comes from two different things that Yoruichi gives him. I'm not sure it's mentioned the second time, though, which makes it confusing (Especially since he already used something to fly around in). But I thought that was somewhat forgivable. And Yammato's release sequence is pretty badass in the anime. Any mangas I should look into? I'm not a big manga guy (I normally just watch the mainstream animes every now and then), but I've paid attention to Bleach (Which can be frustrating given Kubo's love of the "Rescue" arc) and Naruto (Which I gave up for a little while but got back on board and have been pretty happy with for the last year or so).

Indeed. Moving to eliminate the Federal Reserve and going back to Bimetallism is a fantastic show of fiscal responsibility. Then again, you're so paranoid about the Banking System that I'm sure you wouldn't mind seeing it collapse due to runs and such. Do you fully understand the retardation you are supporting? Or are you just going to ignore it and continue to try and link threads between Republican Campaign Contributors, 9/11, and Baskin-Robbins' mystical 32nd flavor?

I honestly can't believe that Tax Cuts will work here. After seeing GW do what he did, I have to think that the American Public will honestly not think about a Tax Cut and try to give actual solutions.

The thing is, the article isn't about the phone jamming; That's what his book is about (Which I'll probably pick up in a week or so). The article was about the current campaign, and some of the tactics being used it in (With a small taste of the book). I liked it, though it ended just when it was getting into some interesting bits of analysis. Really, you just got caught by false advertising, which is what irritated me, and which is why I think Narcoleptic Jumper's name is an incredible metaphor for how he seems to blindly and haphazardly inserts himself into discussion without any sort of rhyme or reason.

are you autistic by any chance? Well, jackass, explain to me how his election analysis article relates to anything even close to rigging an election. Essentially you took his book name and used it as the link to an article that doesn't discuss anything involving rigging the current election. That's all. I mean, I actually enjoyed the article and found the interview both enlightening and interesting. I'm just wondering why you so obviously mislabeled it.
