You could just mention that the UFC's welterweight division is MMA's deepest and boasts arguably 3 Top 5 Pound for Pound Fighters alone, to mention nothing of the other divisions. -
What are your top five in each division?

He's a solid wrestler with great grappling and good G&P. I'd say a one-dimensional fighter is someone like Royler or Hunt. -
How does Ishida deserve a title shot anyless than the other PRIDE LW's? Most of the other LW's have a win or two against terribly overmatched opposition this year. Ishida has been more active than any of them, and wins over Togashi & Aurelio are as quality as anything else the other contenders have done lately.

I wouldn't exactly call him "one-dimensional." He's superb from pretty much any position on the mat, and also has solid enough Judo takedowns to be able to bring a guy like Kikuchi down. I'd say he's no more one dimensional than Diego is. -
Not really... I said Kongo could give Mirko some trouble, but Mirko would win no question. Basically what I am saying is Kongo problay has the best stand up in th HW divison. In the UFC alone, both Arlovski's & Vera's are better.

Any particular reason why Hendo is missing from your rankings, Lei? He looked bad in both fights with Misaki, and his most impressive win since dropping to MW is a KO over a somewhat fatigued Gono. Besides all that, he last fought at LHW. -

By the aforementioned UFC standards, Wanderlei last competed as a HW, therefore eliminating him from the LHW rankings. -

A lot of guys have wins in smaller orgs during a time when MMA as a whole was pretty unorganized, so while Random Fighter may know he's 30-0 in small time events (and tells the UFC such when he signs with them), the guys who run Sherdog's Fight Finder or FCFighter's database will be unable to enter results for Hick Fighting Championships XXXVIII:Battle at the Trailer Park for any number of reasons. Nowadays, though, smaller events are becoming easier to track, and thus more accurate tracking of fighters' records is possible. -

Hansen vs. Aoki at PRIDE's NYE show is confirmed. NOW I'm excited. -
It could be used as a compression choke if the forearm were used to press against the side of the opponent's neck (similar to a forearm choke variation I learned), but from what I've seen of the move in pro-wrestling, most guys tend to hook far behond the opponent's head, thus eliminating the possiblity. Of course, getting that proper forearm placement would probably be a bit more involved than simply wrapping your arm deeply for an arm-triangle.

I have no idea what's to be gained from inaccurately describing it as a choke as opposed to a neck crank, aside from using the term "choke out," which has become a pretty popular phrase.

Now I'm obviously putting too much thought into a fake situation, but both hair pulling & eye gouging are illegal, and it's very, very hard to generate any power whatsoever from punches while lying on your back, especially as someone's trying to rip your head off. The thing is, I don't actually like the move much either, my problem with it being that (disregarding pro-wrestling logic) there's a number of moves that can be applied from the same position that are much more effective and easier to slap on.

Well, I guess that answers the lingering question I had as far as how much Punk actually knows about BJJ. And what's the verdict? The Anaconda Vice is actually an overly elaborate neck crank, not a choke, and sees pretty much no use in BJJ competition whatsoever.

Just tell us now. Is one of them Hioki by any chance? "Sub of the Year" candidate, but he wasn't one of the particular guys I was thinking of. -

Anyone less lazy than I care to get started on a Year End Awards thread so I can rep some relatively obscure fighters? -

A perfect example of a Top 10 fight that has about a 0% chance of affecting the rankings. Luckily, I don't like Melendez much. -

At BoDog's PPV last night, Roger Gracie submitted Ron Waterman in his MMA debut, "Junior" Silva lost to Eric Pele, and Trevor Prangley's chin is still too ridiculous to lose to the likes of Semenov. -

Well, considering Miller took him down and got his back, I'd hesitate taking Trigg over a middleweight with BJJ as good as Lutter's just yet. And he did make Condit & Jhun look much better than they had any right to look. -

You know, normally I'd go on and on about how right I was about Mayhem sucking, but even I gave Frank no chance in this match. Props to him. -

To an extent, though when compared to what they've eached accomplished in the 3 years since, its value isn't enough to rank Babalu ahead of Shogun on the basis of the head-to-head win. -

Hey, I'm just trying to save both you and animal mother a lot of heartbreak when Jacare dies from an ear punch.
