    TUF V: The Thread

"I'm glad I wasn't beaten by a bitch". Nice backhanded compliment there, Jens. Joe "Not a Bitch" Lauzon. Probably not a nickname you want to use. Personally I thought Rob won the first round, but once again - boxing judges. If you're engaging in a standup war, they'll probably favour the guy pushing the pace unless the other guy is doing a lot more, and I suppose that Rob wasn't. Overall, I give it an "eh".

Well, cheers then, for continuing the tradition.

    UFC 73

Maybe he's from here in Pittsburgh, where most people go to baseball games because it's a pretty outdoor bar? Baseball was a bad example - you don't actually have to watch the game to enjoy yourself at a baseball stadium. I should've said regular season football.

I didn't realize I had a streak going for that. Remind me to bring it up next year.

    UFC 73

Some people aren't fans of MMA, and yes, some people find it boring. No biggie. Yet you enjoyed Pride, and essentially you're saying that you'd watch it for the spectacle of everything BUT the fights? That's just weird. That's like going to a baseball game because the $7 hot dogs are good.

The thing with Cintron is that unlike other boxers/boxing afficionados he seems to take MMA seriously. Whether that translates to being prepared in a MMA fight remains to be seen though.

Hopefully training with ATT helps him beat up Leben.

I would love it if DeGarmo v2 went next week.

I like those. Of course, we're probably gonna get something like "Is Boxing Dead?" with "Randy Couture and the UFC Choke Out the Competition" as a subtitle.

    Heroes

It may have been implied or the clues were there, but I don't think it was ever said outright. Obviously, it's a moot point because if we didn't know before, we do now.

And if he KO'd the boxer they'd probably contend that they got beat by a glorified kickboxer. I don't know that Silva is the right choice. He's got the BJJ background, sure, but he prefes to throw. A great choice in the styles-make-exciting-fights sense, but not for a definitive boxing/MMA matchup. Sherk is great for the latter, but not the former. He's probably got the Alanis version of "My Humps" (tm Lei Tong) in his mp3 player as we speak. So my question would be this - who would make an exciting fight AND best exemplify MMA? GSP maybe? Hughes? Nog? Maybe there's a heavyweight out there with the balls to fight Fedor.

Can't come soon enough! I need an HD-DVD player I guess I'd probably pay the $100 for an upconverting DVD player instead, but that's just me - waiting to see who wins the HD disc wars.

    The Amazing Race: All-Star Edition

It was an interesting challenge for sure. I was hoping for Eric's "family" to be Jeremy AND the Hippies though. He and Danielle aren't the worst team to ever win - they're probably middle of the road.

Why you gotta be a big time boxing nuthugger? I think we all know that Mayweather wasn't going to do an MMA match because of the money and potential to spoil his boxing pedigree. Like they say, it's two entirely different sports. But I think that they do need to have some sort of boxer-freestyle fighter match with "name" guys just to settle this once and for all.

Sportsline has had a working relationship with MMAWeekly for a while. They're decent for a "mainstream" sports site. More "goodness" from Mike "Douche" Freeman: I had no idea that toughness was a skill. Anyway, it's apparent that this idiot puts down MMA because that's his basic M.O. Check out this exerpt from his Bio: Again, he tries to incite anger in order to get over. Kinda sad for a "national columnist".

    The Bourne Ultimatum

Well you see that's the problem. The plot ISN'T the same. The only similarities between the book and movie are the name Jason Bourne, the fact that he has amnesia, and a few scattered names and minor plot devices. I'm a big fan of loyal book to movie adaptations and this wasn't one of them. Essentially, you're pissed off because they're using the pedigree (or whatever the right term is) of the Bourne books to make an (almost) entirely unrelated movie. And if this movie were called "Matt Damon is a Super Soldier Who Gets Amnesia and Does Stuff III", you'd be OK with it (assuming that such a movie were, you know, good). If so, I get where you're coming from with this, and frankly, I've got no problem with it.

    TUF V: The Thread

Noone's gonna get fired because Gabe didn't make weight. If they do, I hope that they don't sign anything because that's a wrongful dismissal suit waiting to happen. The fact is that on ANY reality show, people are cast because of their personality and/or uniqueness, not just because they "really, really want to be there". That's why Rob and Amber have been in 4 different reality competitions. That's why you don't have devout Mormons on The Real World. That's why we had Sanjaya. And that's why you've got guys like Gabe Ruediger, Matt Hamill and Corey Hill on TUF. Of course, the difference between Gabe and characters like Hamill, Corey and others is that even with the antics they still kept their eye on what was important - fighting. And part of that is making weight. But if you were in it just to get camera time... well good luck using that to your advantage fighting the Who Deys in the IFL or when Brock, Royce or even Gina Carrano are around in Elite K-XC. You'll be more of a nobody than those guys on the De La Hoya/Mayweather undercard.

I felt like the Geico Caveman after reading that - "Uh, WHAT?" There's a response to the article from Ben Foulkes of the IFL, as well as a counterpoint from Mike Doyel, both of which are much better thought out than Freeman's idiotic comments. Frankly, Foulkes does a great job picking apart most of Freeman's arguments, so I don't even feel that there's a need to rip Freeman a new one - it's already been done.

    The Bourne Ultimatum

To be fair, the producers have readily admitted that the first movie was a very loose adaptation of the book and the second one had nothing in common. With the comfort of knowing that, I enjoyed both movies immensely, but yes, it's up there with Moonraker as horrible book-to-film adaptations, since they're not really adaptations at all. For me though, The Big Bounce and Be Cool were far worse in that they stayed (relatively) true to the source material, but the end product just wasn't very good.

    Heroes

So you're saying that Hiro is essentially Kang - the Marvel villain, not the Simpsons alien or the MMA guy. He keeps jumping around trying to change the future, but ends up creating alternate realities.

    Heroes

Okay, here goes Eric... Hiro from the future, or present (not sure on this point), stabbed Sylar, but he regenerated and still destroyed the city. Future Hiro figured that if he saved the cheerleader, he would have been able to kill Sylar, so the "save the cheerleader" plot started. Unfortunately for him, saving the cheerleader was not enough because through that Peter was set into a course of action where he became the bomb. When he said he stabbed Sylar and he regenerated he was talking about before the Cheerleader was saved. But he was wondering what happened that the city was not saved. Whew. No, you made my point. There should have been no "Future Claire" for him to kill and eat if he had already survived. See my only question is whether or not the Future that Hiro and Ando went to reflected the present actions after they had already Saved The Cheerleader etc. It would seem like it. Days of Back to the Future Past?
