Interesting bit on the Montreal card... The Putski/Graham bit was cool but if you ever want to learn the definition of a juicehead, just take on look at Putski.

    Rated PG Superstar?

Well, here's further proof that the Attitude Era is indeed dead and buried... http://www.variety.com/article/VR111798933...yid=14&cs=1 Should have seen this coming. I've been noticing for the past few months, for instance, that Steve Austin's old footage has been edited to blur out his use of his middle fingers on DVD and (most infuriatingly) on 24/7. It probably won't be long now until the WWE starts advertising that they're family entertainment again. Thanks a lot, John Cena!

Just watched The Film Room with Gordon Solie. This segment was about Terry Funk and you see some great footage of him, defeating Jack Brisco for the title and even a clip of Dory Jr. beating Kiniski for his title. You also get a bizarre promo from Funk where he dumps motor oil on himself.

Speaking of Lucky Pierre and La Bomba, they should be showing the match where they win the titles on Prime Time (by way of Superstars) very, very soon.

It should be getting much better with the Nikita/Magnum angle progressing to where it ends up and when Big Bubba has a confrontation with Dusty Rhodes. Jim Cornette talks about it in his shoot interview, and I can't wait to see it. I forgot to mention this a while back but one of Cornette's funniest commets was when he repeatedly called himself a macho man.

Just watched the show. Once again, Cornette is the MVP with his crazy rants against the James Boys (especially when Tony said Tony Zale was one of the James Boys) and Baby Doll. Damn, does his face get red. Cool that Big Bubba has now been introduced. Other highlights... -Awesome bit with Flair breaking Morton's nose. So Flair damaged Morton's face twice and Morton never really got revenge. -The Nikita/Magnum press conference. I know it was for the storyline but just why the hell did Magnum bring his mother to the press conference? -I have to say, Jimmy Garvin is pretty damn funny on the mic. -Love the look on Whatley's face after the tag team match with Barbarian and Von Rascke where he's pointing to Jimmy Valiant's ponytail. -Good arena footage, with the Horsemen beating up Morton (and of course, the good guys arriving way too late) and Blanchard busting up Garvin. All and all an entertaining show.

I saw Kim Chee wrestle a couple of times. That didn't surprise me but you are right about Muraco. He looked absolutely disgusting with all those veins bulging out. Even the announcer acknowledged all those vains. I did a bit of a double take when Gorilla said that up next was The Rock. Then I remembered that was Muraco's nickname.

Seeing the Savage heel turn was cool. Seeing the Piledriver video cassesste reminded me that I once owned him. Was never a fan of the cookie part of the WWF ice cream bar. This week's Prime Time was an excellent example of 80s wrestling. Every match involving mid-carders (save for one) ends in a disqualification. It was practically impossible to put someone over, clean or otherwise.

    Monday Night Wars

Hogan didn't defend the title on TV afte r1987 (save for SNME) but at least he wrestled on house shows, usually at a pace of once a week. He completely buried the WCW title.

I remember the Mongo feud. He stole Mongo's Super Bowl ring. The feud ended when a camera showed Mongo standing over an unconscious Goldberg. He had knocked him out with a metal pipe and retaken his ring. Goldberg was off TV for about four weeks and when he returned, the Mongo storyline was never mentioned again. Excellent point about Hogan. If there's one thing Hogan did really well, it was that he destroyed the WCW World Championship's prestige. He never defended the title (at least on TV and rarely during house shows), and when he finally did defend the title, it would usually be after months of not doing so. He did this when he reclaimed the WWF Championship and I think that was a reason Vince got the title off him. One thing Vince won't tolerate is the title not being defended. Hogan rendered the title meaningless and I don't think I'm wrong in saying he was the worst WCW World Champion. He was a big enough star but rendered the title meaningless.

I recall Flair was originally announced as facing Hennig in a cage at Starrcade but he got "injured" and was replaced by DDP. What was the story with that exactly? Page was red-hot at the time.

Yeah, it's amazing Flair tolerated that. But as I've always said, wrestling is a bizarre business.

I never found anything wrong with it myself and Kevin Nash was pretty funny. Waltman managed to do a good impersonation of Flair nowadays with the constant crying. In Flair's book, it's stated that Terry Taylor came up with the idea. But not as anything mean-spirited toward Arn. A big problem with it was that it wasn't supposed to end the way it did. Originally, the Horsemen were supposed to come out and beat up the NWO, with a smiling Arn Anderson looking on. The night that it aired though, someone (had to be Nash) exercised creative control and killed that idea. Later, they told Flair him and the Horsemen could come out and do a promo but Flair refused, saying that it would make them look like punks. So Schivonne said that the Horsemen were being restrained in the back by Doug Dillenger and the WCW security team.

    The complaints over 'unrealistic' angles

Excellent complaints about the cameras being in certain places. I agree. In the past, we've had cameras filming Kane threatening to light RVD on fire and Bischoff forcing Linda McMahon to kiss him. Yet the cameraman just sits there and let's a crime take place. You see, this is the one thing I liked about David Crockett from the old NWA shows. When Tully Blanchard slapped Baby Doll in the face, he actually charged right after Tully. He's the only one who injected some realism into the role. In wrestling, an announcer or wrestler can watch someone stabbing someone else and do absolutely nothing. Another example...remember that whole "Lita is pregnant" angle? They shoot a backstage segment where she's talking to another Diva and saying she wants to keep things a surprise from Matt Hardy. Yet if she wanted to keep things a surprise, why say this in front of a camera? A week later, Matt still doesn't know what she's talking about despite the fact that it was broadcast last week on Raw. Stupid.

Just watching the two recent Nitros. Arn's speech was great. One thing I didn't notice before but Mean Gene was crying too. That was followed by a low point in Eddie Guerrero's career as he jobs to Mongo in Mongo's only successful defense of the U.S. title. Eddie was a trooper and busted his ass off to provide a short but entertaining match with a cool ending. The Arn Anderson montage in the beginning was awesome. Luger was the first to do a 10 second spot praising Anderson. Even when doing a ten second spot putting over another wrestler, Luger is apparently incapable of not flexing his pecks. Larry Z has a funny line to Scott Hall "Looks like you've been hanging out with Hogan. You have something on your nose."

Just checked over the part in the book. Flair starts that section on Savage by mentioning how his relationship with Elizabeth had fallen apart. He states that Savage's heart was not in the match and Savage's current state may have been why Vince decided to have him drop the title. When they were sent to the back, Vince said this wasn't the match he laid out and proceeded to tell them what he wanted. Flair felt it still didn't go well and that Savage was overselling the leg. He also states that Savage did not like Scott Hall.

    WarGames

Agreed. This gimmick is gold and could work even better now since the faces don't have to win every time like in the old days. Faces didn't quit but now everyone taps out. Vince is being a stubborn ass here. I'll take War Games over the Eliminator any day. Watched War Games 94 the other day. It was fun but way too short and bloodless. Although it worked just great for 91, War Games works much better with five on a team than four. Funk was funny and crazy as usual, dancing around the ring, falling between the two rings, and hitting everyone with his boot.

I never saw it on Superstars either. But I think I might have briefly stopped watching aroudn that time. Flair said the match between the two just wasn't working. Flair said that all Savage was concerned about was selling the leg. Haven't read the book in a while but that should be the sum of it.

I don't know what was with that Paul Christie thing. Was he a wrestler or something? The Jake/Steamboat stuff was good. Sheik always makes for interesting television. He called Mean Gene what he always seemed fond of calling him, an "intelligent Jew." Seriously, that's like the third time I've heard him say that about Gene. There's some talk of real-world affairs, with Gene asking Volkoff about Cherynobel. Just to show how dated the show is, Gene tells Sheik that a lot of Middle East countries aren't doing too good because oil is down to $8 or $10 a barrel. Ah, the good old days.

Did you ever read the story about when Flair won the title back from Savage in his autobiography? It was during a TV taping and it wasn't going well. Savage was just constantly selling the leg injury and trying to "protect" it. Heenan came out and made a sign, which stopped the match. Flair and Savage both walked to the locker room where Vince read them the riot act. They came back out and finished the match. Flair said it never aired on television but Prime Time Wrestling aired it a few weeks after it happened. I had it on tape for years but I stupidly got rid of it. Obviously, Flair and Savage stopping the match didn't make the show.

    WarGames

On the Ric Flair DVD, they have his 1994 match with Steamboat. Steamboat comes out and there's no ring introduction. His ring music (which may or may not have been replaced) is just played louder. Then we get Flair coming down the issue to no annoucement. Buffer's still standing in the middle of the ring but a moment later, we cut to Buffer leaving the ring as Flair and Steamboat take off their gear.

Yeah, Jones was a fourth-rate Bobby Heenan. I've seen some footage of him from his heel wrestler days in the Mid-Atlantic and he was quite good. But he was never able to translate that into being a manager. I don't get what was with the Hitler costume either. So that's why Magnum got stripped, because he punched the head of the NWA? Cool. I hope that's going to be on World Championship Wrestling. I recall Dusty later getting stripped of the U.S. title for accidentally hitting Crockett with a baseball bat. One thing I forgot to mention is that I love when Flair keeps saying that Hawk is going to need a respirator to go thirty minutes for him. Flair trashing the Roadies on the mic is always gold.

Yes! I couldn't believe that either. I thought it was funny how Gorilla talked about Horowitz and how he was an up-and-comer, ignoring the fact that Horowitz had just done a job in a tag team match against Strike Force 15 minutes earlier on the show. Horowitz won the Global Lt. Heavyweight Title (twice) from The Lightning Kid, aka The 1-2-3 Kid, aka Syxx, aka Sean Waltman.

Watched the newest episode last night and really enjoyed it. We start off with footage of Dusty and the Road Warriors winning the Six-Man Tag Team Championship. Flair and Arn wrestle a tag team match and call out the Rock N Roll Express. Morton and Gibson oblige but stupidly they cut to commercial and when we get back, they are carrying Robert Gibson to the back. They say they're going to show what happened but Paul Jones and his gang of jobbers come out. Paul Jones is a clown who assembled an "army" of nobodies to destroy a glorified mid-card wrestler. Apparently Pez "Shakasta" Whatley's idea of being a heel is screaming like an absolute jackass the entire time. Anyway, that nonsense aside, it was a pretty good show.
