    Primetime Disscussion Thread

You never watch Prime Time Wrestling for the matches. It was always for the Monsoon and Heenan segments. If it wasn't for them, I doubt the show would have lasted as long as it did. You do get the occassional cool angle, like the build-up to Savage/Honkytonk.

Saw the new Primetime episode they had posted. They had the complete Pildriver music video and it might be the gayest thing I've ever seen. Found out that Arnold Skaaland was in it too. Gorilla shoots with a laugh that Arnold has found himself in a lot of compromising positions. Monsoon and Heenan throw in another shoot about Steve Lombardi being from the "Terry Garvin School of Self-Defense." The Survivor Series is hyped throughout the entire show, which gets annoying. Heenan cracks at a picture of Hogan's team that the last time Ken Patera was in a room with that many guys, they were asking him to step forward and be identified.

    The OAO WWE DVD Thread

Yeah, he really goes into detail in his book about it. The NWA picked him as champion because they thought (correctly) that he was capable of working a great match everytime he went out there. Dusty was disappointed and chose to drop the belt in Kansas City, where he wasn't big and where Flair wasn't big.

Crockett's interviewed quite a bit for the documentary. It also features some footage of Flair winning his first World title from Dusty in 1981.

Got the Ric Flair DVD today and I really enjoyed the documentary. It was a pretty good one. They even have a clip of Flair winning his first World title in 1981.

Typically WCW. That was also the card where Austin jobbed to Duggan in 28 seconds.

What isn't stale in the WWE?

I never get tired of Mickie either. Santino's act is still funny.

Well, don't get too excited about Robert Fuller being in there. Fuller was fully playing his "Col. Parker" character during the match and wasn't half as good as JJ in doing it. I remember the storyline being they wanted Meng (who had just beaten up Dusty Rhodes) as the fourth man but Parker was forced to compete. I agree about the roster in that one though...it is bruising. Terry Golden is Bunkhouse Buck, right?

    WarGames

It's a shame because it was such a great event. But you can definitely see the decline... War Games 93 was lifeless and featured a comic wrestler winning the match. Dustin Rhodes was the only guy who really captured the spirit of the match. War Games 94 focused on a mid-card feud between an old Dusty Rhodes and Rob Parker's stable. 95 featured a team of all-stars against a team of mid-card wrestlers. As stated, at least 96 had a good storyline to follow and the heels were victorious. Never saw 97 and I don't think the WWE will allow us to see it.

Just finished watching the Boston Garden card from March 1989. A few notes... -We see Lanny Poffo's gradual heel turn as he rips Hogan in his poem and puts over Randy Savage, which is cool because he's his brother. -One of these days, 24/7 should put all the matches between The Rockers and the Brainbusters in their shortie section for a month. These two teams never had a bad match and they had another great, long one on this show. -We get another Hogan/Bossman match. It's not the traditional blue cage of that era but an actual cage like the NWA used at the time. There's also no Hogan suplexing Bossman from the top of the cage but this was another entertaining match. Bossman does a gory blade job and the two of them had pretty good chemistry together.

Definitely. 91 and 92 was the highpoint of War Games. It was a slow decline from there. Although War Games 96 is cool because that was early NWO vs WCW. The first War Games match is on youtube. Yeah, the Warriors do put a hurting on JJ.

Seen all the War Games on 24/7. The first War Games has a major disadvantage since they didn't have a camera in the ring but it still turned out pretty good. The 89 War Games had a camera inside although the camera work wasn't great. Still though, it was entertaining. I agree that the match needed some blood although I suspect with AIDS and everything, they didn't want anyone blading. I know they told Dusty in 88 to stop doing blading on TV and that led to the infamous spike in the eye angle that eventually got him fired. Just watched War Games 92 and that was outstanding. Violent, bloody, and featuring a bunch of great wrestlers busting their asses off. That was the high point of War Games. War Games 93 was pretty dull. War Games 95 was entertaining, even though it features a dream team featuring a bunch of mid-card wrestlers. Hey, at least you get to see a young and agile Big Show at the end. Not to mention John Tenta attempting to jump both ropes in the ring. I noticed they don't have the first War Games match in 87 coming up. That's too bad although in all fairness, the first match was almost identical to the second one. The funniest thing about War Games though is the coin flip. One thing you know is that the good guys will NEVER win the coin flip. The heels always have the 2-on-1 advantage. So they shouldn't even bother with the flip.

They have the Tuesday Night Titans up that ends with the Funk Brothers hanging Lord Alfred Hayes from a noose.

I can't wait to check that out. Just watched the 93 one a little while ago (start off with the worst and go to the best) and it really was a snoozer.

War Machine was Big Bossman I believe. I had forgotten that there was a 93 War Games. I guess because Vader wasn't in it. Looking forward to seeing the ones from 87, 89, and 92.

    NWA Weekly Programming Thread

I don't know what the point of the masks were but it was an entertaining feud. Due mostly to Cornette, who was absolutely gold on the microphone. Calling Baby Doll a fat heefer and all.

    NWA Weekly Programming Thread

The latest NWA show is again a shortened one due to Atlanta Braves baseball. Really not much happened on this show...even Flair's promo was kinda short. The Cornette/James Gang saga continues and we get another Midnight Express squash. Arn states that the Fourth Horseman, Ole, will be returning soon. Watching these episodes, I never realized that Ole was "out of commission" for so long at the start of the Horseman and it was only another couple of months until he was officially booted from the team.

Alex Wright's gimmick reminds me a little of Santino Morella's. That would have been a fun tag team.

I really wish Backlund had gotten a longer run. I enjoyed his heel run but it was over before it really got going.

Kelly Kiniski cut what might have been the worst promo ever. He just rambled on and on and said stuff and swalloed constantly. This is where Bob Caulde as the interviewer should have stepped in a dictated the promo. Really enjoyed the Mid-Atlantic Show too. Brisco/Jones was good. Jones was more effective here as a heel (I hear his Mid-Atlantic prime was quite good) then he is as the buffoonish manager in the mid-80s. Though if Jerry Brisco really cared about his brother, he would have stayed at ringside to prevent Humperdink's interference. Speaking of which, House of Humperdink dominated the show. Joe LeDuc was actually pretty good in the ring and on the mic. It was funny seeing Valentine and Rotundo there. Three years later, Valentine and Beefcake dethroned Rotundo and Windham for the WWF World Tag Team titles and six years after that, Rotundo as IRS beat Valentine at Summerslam 91.

I didn't think Hennig's U.S. title run was that bad. Not only is the Bockwinkele/Hennig one-hour draw up but also a complete episode of Mid-Atlantic Championship Wrestling. I've been waiting to see one of these for a long time.

Yeah, Sid is pretty audible in calling spots at certain points in the match. I thought War Games 91 was a great match but I agree that Sid calling the spots was bad. What made it even worse was that he was calling spots after every move.
