The only downside of Flair month is that there looks like there will be no old TBS NWA shows. -

That was it. My bad. -
Savage is a riot on these old shows. His rambling promos were insane and hysterical. I also noticed that his legs are ungodly skinny.

That's surprisng about Slaughter and Shiek. There MSG series was excellent and the two had good chemistry together.

As I recall, JR took a shot at Schivonne on this week or next week's show, saying he wasn't going to leave the broadcast booth crying.

Dungeon of Doom...that was terrible. Sullivan years past his prime with John Tolos as the Dungeon master. "Sullivan!" -
It's interesting that Piper is on the card considering he had finished as an active competitor in the WWE after WM8.

About Taker/Big Show, they did have a few funny moments. When they were doing commentary, Lawler asked Show if he were afraid that Taker would stab him in the back. Taker said "King, if you ask one more stupid question, I"m going to stab you right in the face!" Another funny time was when GTV caught Big Show and Val Venis at the urinals. Venis looked over, laughed, and said "And they call you the Big Show." Show proceeded to throw him into the bathroom stall really hard. Later in the show, Venis came out and challenged show. Cue to the locker room where... Taker: "You going to pick that up?" Show: "Pick what up?" Taker: "That punk card Val Venis just left you." Show: "Ah, man!" They had their moments.

I remember liking the Shane/Test match best, based mostly on Shane's surprise performance.

I recall Monsoon doing a bunch of interviews like this towards the end. He did some for the Jesse Ventura videotape they released. I liked the Putski HOF profile a lot. What was mess though his match with Piper is though. All it is is a few flurry of punches before the DQ. Interesting bit with Piper's bagpipers playing during the match but it gets old and annoying really fast. Putski's also featured on Prime Time and I could really do without the sight of Putski in a skimpy, leopard speedo.

You're right about Andre. He has his back surgery in 1987 but he wasn't going to get any better. I don't remember but I've heard that Andre's Survivor Series performance was so bad that it was two months before they showed any footage from Survivor Series on WWF TV.

Yeah, Shawn wasn't quite Shawn yet. Even his long-awaited showdown with Curt Hennig at Summerslam 93 was a disappointment. -

I saw that Flair/Steamboat match when it first aired and it was a damned good one. The WCW title was held-up after Spring Stampede (although it never counted as another Ric Flair title reign in the end) and they went about thirty-six minutes. I'm surprised about the lack of Ric Flair HOF profile but hey, it's Harley. Harley's awesome. -

All month Flair, plus Harley Race as the Hall of Fame profile=Greatest month on WWE 24/7 ever! Those Flair TV highlights I'm looking forward to...Flair on Mid-Alantic TV, Flair vs Gordy in Texas, first Prime Time with Flair, and the last televised match between Flair and Steamboat on WCW Saturday Night. -
Yeah. You know, they went to see an Andre match and didn't expect that result. Although it was the correct one.
-
How about the Andre/Kamala match?

I have to admit, I always liked the studio setting. Something about it was cool. Plus, the fans at times cheered the heels. You see some instances of it on this show. You're right on about Magnum. If he had tried to force Magnum to apologize, you would have something. But getting stripped of your title for a reprimand? That's just plain dumb. Then you have the Crockett's who opposed the decision? Opposed it? He just punched a guy who let him off with the lightest possible "punishment." And while we're at it, I'll ask again...what the hell was Magnum's mother doing at the press conference? Got to love wrestling logic.

Bock was a little too old at that point but he was so damn good, he could have pulled off the Million Dollar Man gimmick.

Great NWA show today! Spoilers... We don't get Magnum/Nikita since Magnum was stripped of the title (more on that later) but we get a Flair/Rhodes title match featuring the return of Ole Anderson, who cuts a great promo. This is followed by an even better promo for Dusty about Ole. Jimmy Valient and Manny Fernandez attack Jones's army and cut Whatley's hair. Magnum is officially reprimanded (but not fined or suspended for attacking Nikita at a press conference). You'd think he'd be happy about that but instead, he punches out the NWA president and is stripped. Some good lines on today's show, with Cornette telling how he plans to train for his match baby doll "with my good friend, Richard Simmons." An even better line is from Jiimmy Garvin (who cuts entertaining promos), railing on Magnum whining about his mother and telling him that "If she knew you were a dancer in San Fransisco, she would probably kick you out of the house."

I guess it's kind of like during that horrible invasion angle. Austin led the WWE team against WCW/ECW and when he tagged into the ring, he pounded the various WCECW guys, only to turn on the WWE and join the Alliance at the end of the match. When you think about it, the way the NWO pounded WCW doesn't make sense. WCW outnumbered them like four-to-one, yet they never bandied together for more than two weeks to beat down the NWO. Bischoff being allowed to stay as VP of WCW for months after it was revealed he was NWO was stupid too.
-
This could be another ill-advised business/financial decision on Flair's part. If it's something that allows him to still make WWE appearances while making these other ones, that's one thing. But I doubt that's the case. He's almost 60...he should not be wrestling anymore. It's sad but I think he'll be another guy he won't be able to enjoy retirement. Seeing him wrestle on the independent circuit would be pathetic.

Wilkes was pretty over from what I remember. I really don't know how he would have faired during the Attitude Era. Any other time though, he could have been successful.
-
I remember the Patriot feud with the Hart Foundation. He actually got a really strong push for like three months and the last time he was seen, Rick Rude was throwing coffee into his face.

The King gimmick was a way to acknowledge Race's success without having to mention he was a former 7-time NWA World Champion. I heard once on SNME, Terry Funk made some acknowledgement to his own past, maybe mentioning he was a former NWA World Champion. As far as gimmicks go, The King was certainly not a bad one. Bruno did indeed wrestle Harley Race for the NWA World title in 1973. They split a fall apiece and wrestled to a one-hour draw.
