    Lollapalooza Returns....

Additional details have come to light about this year's scaled-down version of Lollapalooza, which, as previously reported, will be held July 23-24 in Chicago's Grant Park. According to the event's official Web site, 70 bands are expected to grace five stages. The full lineup will be announced April 22. For a week beginning Thursday (April 7) or until supplies last, a two-day pass will be available for $35, with a two-ticket limit per credit card. Tickets can be purchased through a link on the Lollapalooza site, which also promises forthcoming information on travel packages. On the festival grounds, organizers say to expect installations from local and national visual artists, a runway show, the presence of robots and other man-made machines and the screening of a history-spanning Lollapalooza documentary. The festival is returning this year after a disastrous 2004 when the entire tour was canceled due to sluggish ticket sales. Lollapalooza was to be a two-day traveling affair featuring Morrissey, String Cheese Incident, Wilco, the Pixies, Flaming Lips and Sonic Youth, among others, but was pulled in late June, less than a month before its planned start date. http://www.lollapalooza.com/

    Lollapalooza Returns....

Pixies, Weezer Top Lolla Lineup Updated 10:20 PDT Fri, Apr 22 2005 Lollapalooza organizers have announced more than 30 acts for this year's two-day festival, including Weezer, the Pixies, Arcade Fire, The Killers, and Liz Phair. The July 23-24 event will take place in Chicago's Grant Park and will ultimately include more than 60 bands on five stages. The current lineup also includes Widespread Panic, Billy Idol, The Black Keys, The Walkmen, Death Cab For Cutie, The Bravery, Blonde Redhead, Cake, M83, The Dandy Warhols, Tegan and Sara, Kasabian, Ambulance LTD, Blue Merle, Brian Jonestown Massacre, The Warlocks, Z-Trip, The Changes, DeSol, G. Love & Special Sauce, Kaiser Chiefs, Los Amigos Invisibles, Louis XIV, The Redwalls, and World Leader Pretend. The recently reunited Digable Planets will appear, as will Dinosaur Jr, which just days ago announced a full reunion of its original members. This year's one-off edition marks a departure from the traditional Lollapalooza tour model. Last year, a two-day traveling festival was planned but scrapped after poor ticket sales. The first batch of tickets is on sale now at $85 (plus service charges and shipping) for a two-day pass. According to the festival's official Web site, prices will increase without notice to $100 and then $115. Single-day passes are not available. Earlier this month, organizers sold 2,000 two-day passes via the official Lollapalooza mailing list. The passes – priced at a discounted $35 – sold in 80 minutes, even though no artists had been announced. Organizers hope to win city approval for at least 30,000 fans per day, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. The event is being produced by Capital Sports & Entertainment and Charles Attal Presents, and presented by Chicago's Parkways Foundation. Festival founder Perry Farrell is a partner and creative consultant and William Morris Agency is also chipping in.

    RIP Bryan Ottoson

From Blabbermouth.net: The web site of the Plex concert venue in North Charleston, SC, where AMERICAN HEAD CHARGE were due to perform Tuesday night (April 19) with MUDVAYNE, LIFE OF AGONY and BLOODSIMPLE, has been updated with the following message: "The MUDVAYNE show scheduled tonight 4/19/05 had to be postponed due to the tragic death of a member of AMERICAN HEAD CHARGE. The new show date will be scheduled within the next few days. You will be notified of the new date and all tickets will be honored at that time. "The Plex would like to extend our sympathy to the members of AMERICAN HEAD CHARGE for their tragic loss, and thank all guests for their understanding during this situation." As previously reported, AMERICAN HEAD CHARGE guitarist Bryan Ottoson was reportedly found dead in his bus bunk earlier today prior to the band's scheduled appearance in North Charleston, SC. An official word on the matter is expected shortly. Here was the earlier report from Blabbermouth: AMERICAN HEAD CHARGE guitarist Bryan Ottoson was reportedly found dead in his bus bunk earlier today prior to the band's scheduled appearance at the Plex in North Charleston, SC. An official word on the matter is expected shortly. AMERICAN HEAD CHARGE were in the middle of a U.S. tour with MUDVAYNE, LIFE OF AGONY and BLOODSIMPLE in support of their new album, "The Feeding", available on Nitrus/DRT. The follow-up to 2001's "The War of Art" (American Recordings) was recorded at Westlake Studios in Los Angeles with producer Greg Fidelman (who engineered "The War of Art", and whose credits include MARILYN MANSON, SLIPKNOT, RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS and BUSH). Hailing from the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul, the six members of AMERICAN HEAD CHARGE garnered both commercial and critical acclaim with "The War of Art", which debuted at No. 1 on Billboard's "Heatseekers" chart. Intensive, high-profile touring followed, including Ozzfest 2002, cementing the band's reputation as a killer live act.

    Arena League player dies

I received this today from a friend that worked for LA: s most of you may have heard the LA Avengers and the entire Arena Football League suffered a great loss this weekend when lineman Al Lucas died while making a tackle. Al was a dear friend of mine, and was a person that I am glad that I had the opportunity to get to know and work with. He will be greatly missed, especially by his family. He leaves behind a wife and a daughter. To help them get through this time the AFL has set up a fund in his name. Persons interested in making a donation to the Al Lucas Trust Fund should make checks payable and should send their donations to: Al Lucas Trust Fund c/o Arena Football League Players Association 2021 L Street, NW Washington, DC 20036 ******************** A moment of silence will be conducted at all eight AFL games this weekend, beginning with three contests on Friday, April 15, as well as at all nine arenafootball2 games. In addition, players from every AFL team will wear a No. 76 helmet decal for the remainder of the season. "The spirit of Al Lucas will always be wherever Arena Football is played," AFL Commissioner David Baker said. "We will constantly consider tribute activities and efforts that commemorate Al's love for our game." Also, the AFL award previously known as the Hero Award, which is given to the player who best exemplifies the AFL's Mission Statement for both on and off-the-field accomplishments, will permanently be renamed the Al Lucas Award. ********************

There was something very disturbing seeing Christy, who has toured/recorded with such metal greats as Iced Earth, Death, & Control Denied, dressed as a women for a drag queen beauty pagent. Seriously though, I'm happy he won that contest last year. Very funny and talented guy.

    It's called Gigantour

It's called Gigantour, and it's the brainchild of MEGADETH frontman/guitarist Dave Mustaine. Set to launch in late July, Gigantour is a six-week festival trek co-headlined by MEGADETH and DREAM THEATER, who'll be accompanied by other main-stage acts FEAR FACTORY, THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN and NEVERMORE. Artists for the second stage will be announced in the coming weeks. Gigantour follows MEGADETH's sold-out 2004 "Blackmail The Universe" tour in support of 2004's "The System Has Failed" — MEGADETH's tenth studio album — which debuted on the charts at #18 and was critically hailed as a brilliant return to form. Bandmates Glen Drover (guitar), James MacDonough (bass) and Shawn Drover (drums) will once again join Mustaine on the road. Gigantour — whose moniker was inspired by the classic 1960s cartoon "Gigantor" — will criss-cross North America, with stops in amphitheatres and arenas in cities including Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, Detroit, Toronto, Montreal, Washington, Philadelphia, Boston, Denver and Minneapolis, among others. The tour is implementing the "fan-friendly" ticket price of approximately $35 each. Mustaine notes: "I think people may want an affordable alternative to the choices out there — along the lines of a pure music festival — like Monsters of Rock or Clash of the Titans." Mustaine handpicked the bands for Gigantour, with a focus on musicianship. "There are few very successful tours out each summer and in order to be significant, I knew the first Gigantour had to make an impact with top bands like DREAM THEATER, FEAR FACTORY, THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN and NEVERMORE." Mustaine wanted to "put together a festival that consisted of positive bands that play heavy music in a high energy environment." Mustaine comments on the other bands he's chosen for the Gigantour main stage. "I think that the variety of playing styles and the credibility of the different players is really exciting. I'm looking forward to spending time with DREAM THEATER — including my friend Mike Portnoy — while on the road. I think DREAM THEATER is unbelievably talented. I can't wait to see what their set list is going to be for this festival." Mike Portnoy from DREAM THEATER comments on the band's perspective on the tour: "I think we probably bring some diversity to the bill, because we're kind of like chameleons — we can fit into a lot of different situations. We've done shows in the past with IRON MAIDEN, SLAYER and PANTERA, and then we've also done shows with ELTON JOHN, YES and DEEP PURPLE. I think our fan base is very diverse like that too." Portnoy sees Gigantour as a "kind of a meeting of musicians and metal-heads." He adds: "I've been listening to MEGADETH since day one and always admired them and Dave as an artist — he constantly stuck to his guns and stuck by the music he believes in. MEGADETH are one of the pioneers of the genre." Gigantour marks the first U.S. leg of DREAM THEATER dates in support of their forthcoming release "Octavarium", due out June 7 on Atlantic Records. Mustaine first toured with FEAR FACTORY in 1994. "I think FEAR FACTORY and THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN are really going to add something different to the tour and bring some new people in." He continues, "The frontman of NEVERMORE [Warrel Dane] used to be in a band called SANCTUARY and I produced their first record." Mustaine is excited to hit the road and has a positive outlook for Gigantour. "I look forward to watching this develop over the years and seeing how we can turn this into something that's going to stand the test of time. And if this works, and it really works, maybe we'll take it elsewhere." Stay tuned for tour dates, venues and information about the second-stage bands to be announced soon. http://www.roadrunnerrecords.com/blabbermo...ewsitemID=35062

    Jarrett meeting with Viacom

Viacom has said that while wrestling brings the ratings, it doesn't bring the advertisers, so this makes no sense. I don't see how they can say it doesn't bring advertisers. It may not bring huge-dollar advertisers (such as Wal-Mart, Coca-Cola, Pepsi, etc.), but it definitely seems to have no problem bringing in advertising aimed at a young target demographic (such as the video games, "edgy/scary" movie trailers, some fast food/candy/"junk food", and don't forget the ever-popular Birdman Lugz ) It's not like TNA is going to change things when it comes to advertising revenue, it'll be the same old stuff, just with an upstart company as opposed to an established money-maker in WWE. It's not like Coca-Cola is going to see TNA and think "hey, that WWE wasn't worth advertising on, but this company with the 6-sided ring and 500 fans in the audience may just be what we're looking for!" I think it's more that it doesn't bring in top dollar like other programming formats.

    More on the Anthrax reunion..

What I find very interesting is the day the press conferance takes place. Something lame to follow????? For the first time in 13 years, the entire "Among the Living" lineup of ANTHRAX — Joey Belladonna (vocals), Frank Bello (bass), Charlie Benante (drums), Scott Ian (guitar) and Dan Spitz (guitar) — will gather together in one room to discuss new music releases, as well as the future plans for this monumental ANTHRAX reunion. This history-making ANTHRAX global press conference and luncheon will take place on April 1, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. EST/11:00 a.m. PST at Sirius Satellite Radio in New York City. This media blitz, which will broadcast simultaneously on Hard Attack/27, Sirius Satellite Radio's extreme heavy metal station, has a dedicated telephone line, (866) 510-5377, available for overseas and out-of-state journalists to call in their questions and speak directly with ANTHRAX. The ANTHRAX global press conference and luncheon will officially kick off "Spreading the Anthrax Weekend" on Hard Attack/27, where millions will hear it first. At the conclusion of the ANTHRAX global press conference and luncheon, ANTHRAX will make an important statement regarding the U.S. Government and the Anthrax Vaccine. ANTHRAX has teamed up with Slave to the Metal Foundation to bring public awareness to the dangers of the Anthrax Vaccine. The newly legislated "BioShield Act" (July, 2004) allows the Department of Health and Human Services to inject American citizens with Anthrax Vaccines and other untested and unapproved substances without informed consent, using our military as first line guinea pigs. Experts will be at the conference to discuss this with attendees. Twice Grammy-nominated, MTV/VMA nominees and multi-platinum- and gold-awarded music veterans ANTHRAX have sold over 10 million records worldwide over the course of nine studio albums, two live albums, three greatest hits, and two DVDs. Touring pros ANTHRAX performed on over fifty tours spanning the globe — in 32 countries on five continents, including Europe, North America, South America, Australia and Asia. ANTHRAX's "Among the Living" lineup has scheduled the following dates: Apr. 30 – Chicago, IL @ House of Blues May 01 – Chicago, IL @ House of Blues May 07 – Hellendoorn, NETH @ Dynamo Open Air May 12 - Brisbane, AUS @ The Arena May 14 - Sydney, AUS @ The Roundhouse May 15 - Melbourne, AUS @ The Palace May 16 - Adelaide, AUS @ Heaven Nightclub May 18 - Perth, AUS @ The Lookout Jun. 09-11 – Sölvesborg, SWE @ Sweden Rock Jun. 11-12 – Bologna, ITA @ Gods of Metal Jun. 11 - Donington Park, UK @ Download Jun. 24-26 – Le Mans, FRA @ Fury Fest Jun. 24-26 – Tolmin, SLO @ Metal Camp Jul. 1-3 - Löbnitz (near Leipzig), GER @ With Full Force
