    NFL Offseason Thread

Was it just a coincidence that 3 days before the SuperBowl these allegations regarding their first SuperBowl popped up and that they would be called into a congressional hearing? I want to see an investigation into what Arlen Specter and the Philadelphia Eagles have to do with this whole situation. I call bullshit on pretty much all professional sports.

Bill Watts mid-south/UWF, Von Erich's World Class

I'm glad to hear that. I could have sworn he died at the beginning of '07. No, I'm not thinking of Bam Bam Bigelow.

    Let's Talk About...

I think it was wonderful idea. But, who would would want to watch anything with the stars WCW had in '94-'95? Shockmaster and Too Cold Scorpio vs. The Equalizer and Cobra. We're having a good time now! But, I did love the '91 version. Some of the better matches (one match included Rick Rude and Arn Anderson as a team) were actually edited down for time while the worst matches involving El Gigante and Bill Kazmeyer were shown in their entirety. But, the Battle Royale was great. What I'd really love is a Survivor Series/Battle Bowl/Royal Rumble . Teams of four picked at random wrestle in elimination style tag matches and the winning teams advance to the Battle Bowl where they enter at random two-minute intervals.

    Favorite Build-ups?

I think the build up to WrestleMania 4 was pretty intense. I watched the entire saga recently and would have to say that this is the most dramatic storyline the WWF wrote in that entire era, even more so than the Mega-Powers explosion or the Ultimate Challenge. The Million Dollar Man said he was going to buy the World title and when Hogan refused to sell out, he enlisted the services of Andre. After several attacks on Hogan, Andre gets a shot on SNME. Andre ends up winning the title thanks to a crooked ref and Dibease's folding green. When the Giant forfeits the title to Dibease, Jack Tunney steps in and declares the title vacant. This sets up the WrestleMania 4 tournament. I thought Hogan's reaction after losing the title on SNME was oscar worthy.

    Flair's 16 title reigns

I agree with you BPS. Look at Jerry Lawler's reign over the USWA. He held the title 30-40 times. On a similar note, where does the Godfather and Val Venis rank amongst other multiple time IC champions like Mr. Perfect, Tito Santana, Greg Valentine, etc.?

    Death of The Tag Team

When you examine the last two big waves of popularity (1985-1990 and 1996-2002) you'll see that the tag teams that were involved were just as responsible for the surge as the main eventers. I've been watching the early Survivor Series tapes lately and in 1987 and 1988 there was a 10 team elimination match. Upon taking a closer look at those teams I found that half had been champions and the others were legitimate contenders for the title. Then you had lower tier teams like the Conquistadors and Young Stallions. An I-C tag title would have been great back then. What is the difference between then and now? The fans. In 1988, The WWF could get away with having gimmicky tag teams. But, as we've seen with the Highlanders and Deuce and Domino, fans aren't willing to accept those type of teams anymore. They want to see Mega-Power type teams ie. Shawn Micheals/Stone Cold, Shawn Micheals/Triple H, Edge/Orton, MVP/MattHardy, etc.

Whats the first pay per view you saw live?

The first pay-per-view I watched was the SummerSlam '89 No Holds Barred rematch inside the steel cage between the team of Hulk Hogan and Brutus Beefcake and the team of Randy Savage and Zeus. This was the only match on the pay-per-view. I'd seen SummerSlam that year. However, my Father taped it and we watched it the next weekend. The first full pay-per-view I watched live was the Ultimate Challenge at WrestleMania 6. When Hulk Hogan lost, I sank into a deep depression. I've never been to a pay-per-view. But, the first pay-per-view I ever thought about going to was WrestleMania 24.

    Behind The Match:Old School

    1. Would you say this is one of the worst matches in WWF history? In pro wrestling history? No. In fact, I thought they told a good story. This was one of the better matches on the card. The Giant takes out the Undertaker with the chloroform-soaked rag. The Undertaker seemingly rises from the dead, returns to the ring, and sets up the rematch for SummerSlam. The match (and the entire purpose) serves its purpose of building the mystique of "the dead man". 2. In a similar vein, where would you rank Giant Gonzalez among the worst pro wrestlers of all time? His work in WWF was much improved over his run in WCW. The WWF used him the right way. Devastating the competition at the 1993 Royal Rumble, the aformentioned Raw battle royal, a few squash matches on Superstars, and then in the big pay-per-views. Giants like Gonzalez and Khali get a lot of grief for having limited mobility. But, I don't think it's their place in wrestling to be doing moonsaults. Yes, the Giant Gonzalez gimmick was bad. However, you can only the blame the creator for that.

    if Chinese Democracy is released......

One thing I like about Axl is that he has laid low for so long. I've thought of this reality show deal as something that they might do for a while now. But, I think it's a bad idea for Axl Rose. He'd be bringing a lot of attention upon himself and would probably crack. Hopefully they don't do anything like they've done with Bret Micheals or Flava Flav. But, if that's what it takes to get this album in my hands, I'll watch

    Dream matches

John Cena reminds me of a lot of "young" Sting. They both have "it." They aren't the greatest technical wrestlers, but they both have great mic skills and flat tops.

    Dream matches

I've always wanted to see Sting vs. Shawn Micheals. There's no doubt in my mind they could still have a great match. Undertaker and Sting would also be epic. Other dream matches: -Punk v. Benjamin -Orton v. Batista I don't know if I could really call these dream matches, but they are matches I would like to see.

    Favorite Wrestlemania from each era

Federation: WrestleMania 6: Even though Hulk lost, I still find the match between he and the Warrior to be one of the best WrestleMania matches. I loved the atmosphere at the SkyDome. WrestleMania 1 through 8 are all wonderful. With the exception of a few, the rest of them are garbage. 10 was good because it answered all the questions left open by 9. I thought 17, 18 and 19 were great although I don't know if the experts consider that trilogy to be part of the attitude or current era.

Bad ideas for a wrestling fed

A fed based around the bible, and it could easily be turned into a musical. Main Event Satan w/ The Demon vs. Jesus w/Judas Other matches include... -David vs. Goliath -Samson vs. Brutus Beefcake w/Delilah -Peter and Paul vs. The Roman Soldiers Special appearance by Moses!! Edit: I think Ted Dibease is already doing this.

WWE General Discussion - February 2008

Count me in as one of the millions of Randy Orton fans who thinks he has what it takes to be champ. He is the top heel in wrestling right now and he deserves to have his big moment. As I've said before, he's had big moments, but he hasn't had his "WrestleMania moment"...yet. If Jeff Hardy won, it would be forgotten about 2 months later. It's time for Triple H to do the job for Orton.

    Let's Talk About...

Vader was simply a "human wrecking machine" in 1992. I loved watching him pummel opponents in the corner and his version of the powerbomb was the most devastating I've ever seen. I couldn't stand Yokozuna at the time but I don't think I was supposed to like him either. Looking back, he was an unbeatable champion who had amazing stamina for a man his size. The 1992 WCW rule changes make more sense to me now than they did at the time. I think the downfall was that it appeared Bill Watts was trying to box the product into a more traditionally-based corner. Although, in reality, I think he was just trying to make it stand out from the competition.

    Let's Talk About...

According to Wikipedia, the Fabulous Freebirds lost to The Barbarian and Dick Slater on June 25th and the title was officially retired on June 31st, 1992. However, Greg Valentine was a co-holder of the title with Terrence Taylor in February of '92.

I thought Marty Jannety had some good singles matches with Paul Roma and Tanaka of the Orient Express, as well.
