TSM Talks (to the voices in their head): The Legacy
Old School replied to Promoter's topic in The WWE Folder
I don't blame Smith. The WWE tag division, for the most part, is dead. So, if you're in a tag team, especially on the B-show, you're pretty much dead too. Yeah, he needs a foot in the door, but why not go for a bigger step when you see the opportunity? Wrestling is a cutthroat business. WWE higher-ups always talk about giving people the ball but them needed to do something with it. Smith went looking for the ball. More power to him. Also, like mentioned before, Nattie is not pretty enough to just be a valet. Talent should matter more but this is the sexist WWE. There's a reason we have to watch people like Kelly Kelly develop on TV instead of seeing other, less attractive girls that can work better get pushes. -
I'm not really sure what the results on F4O said, but it certainly was a watchable, at the very least, PPV. Hell, if you stop watching right after Angle/Jarrett, it was even a really good PPV. Sting/Rhyno was short with no heat...but who wants to see Rhyno get a title shot? That was to be expected. Even with trying to spend two hours to get him over with some BS "injury." No one cares about Rhyno. Angle/Jarrett was good. Angle said he was gonna mess Jarrett up and he did just that. AND got the cheap win. He's a heel. Both made sense. Opener was good and did a good job getting Hernadez over, which is great 'cause he has a title shot coming. 3-Way Tag was good, lots of high spots (which is good for a lot of different fans) and even had some comedy (BOOZER CRUISER!) Plus Jacky, as a manager, did something competent. They also put the tension between Abyss/Morgan leading to a future storyline/match. MCMG was MOTN and they busted out a lot of stuff you don't get to see anymore. From Tiger Suplexes and Double Frog Splashes to submission ground work. The story of the match even showed them not being able to one up each other until Sabin showing concern cost him. The women's match was bad, but with Kong hurt and Hemme getting surgery at least they're moving forward. Still, if the main and the women aren't on the show at all, I think this PPV gets praise all around.

Even the commentary was pretty good tonight. Good overall PPV, with three lackluster matches. The rest of the card more than made up for it.
-
I don't think it is really going to matter all too much. They're still facing Booker T, Kevin Nash and Scott Steiner. The last thing I would expect from that match is work rate.

There's still good RAW shows. It's just that during the Monday Night Wars, almost out of necessity, there were long stretches of GREAT shows. The storylines were a lot more appealing, however let's not forget that we were all younger too. Probably less jaded as well.

It's amazing how quickly things made on Something Awful spread across the internet.

When I was growing up, since it was on Thanksgiving and always multi-man matches, the Survivor Series was always the #2 PPV. Then, over the years, when they added the "Winner Main-Events 'Mania" stip, The Rumble took that spot. Summerslam has always been 3rd or 4th for me.

Did the WON awards ever come out?

WWE General Discussion - December 2008
Old School replied to DrVenkman PhD's topic in The WWE Folder
If there's one thing that I associate with children nowadays, it is stupid AIM/Cell Phone texting acronyms. Regardless of what they stand for. I'll never forgive television for showing that "My BFF Jill" phone commercial. -
Oh, but if you listen to The LAW this is not ironic, it's a coincidence! See, because irony has nothing to do with coincidences, or something...

General Interest Questions 1. Who are you and what's your business here? I've been around since the big yellow board days when SK still posted. I think it was called Smark Rant back then, or something like that. 2. When did you discover an interest in wrestling? It was around the build-up to the Mega Powers exploding at Wrestlemania 5. I remember the Saturday Night's Main Event where Savage/Hogan split 'cause Savage got jealous over Elizabeth. My family used to always order the Survivor Series when we all got together for Thanksgiving too. Back then, PPV's weren't just on Sunday's. 3. The Company Line: A. WWF, WCW, ECW (when it was ran by Heyman), TNA, some 90's Puro (AJPW, NJPW, Super J's) and some ROH. B. I loved late 80's NWA, late 90's ECW and '05 ROH. C. I guess WWE by default. I can't really devote time to Indies and whatnot anymore. I really only watch RAW. 4. (Not So) Favourites: A. Adrian Adonis, Bad News Allen, Bobby Eaton B. Nikolai Volkoff, Koko B. Ware C. Santino, DiBiase Jr, Umaga Specific Questions about your Interest 5. How would you gauge your current interest level in the product? It's not what it used to be but I am a lot older and know a lot more nowadays. I still get nostalgic every now and then. I'll still get the occasional goosebumps over a big return or a grand Undertaker entrance. 6. At what point in wrestling history (if it's not now) would you consider your interest to have been at it's peak? Sting Vs. the nWo. When he was just hitting everyone with the Scorpion Death Drop. Nitro was a must-watch show for me. 7. At what point could you tell your interest was dipping and why do you think this happened, or what specific event(s) triggered the decrease? When both ECW & WCW died and I knew that WWF was all that was left. Then Rock and Austin both took off and I haven't cared too much since. 8. Have you ALWAYS stuck with wrestling even during times of low interest, or are there any lengths of time you stopped watching for a period only to come back at a later date? I quit for a couple of years after Hogan left WWF. 9. If applicable, at what point did you decide to pack in the wrestling fandom? The nWo brought me back. Interesting Questions of a Somewhat Random Nature 10. What style of pro wrestling best resonates with your personal tastes? I have no idea. I dislike cruiserweights and lucha style though. I'm a bigger fan of plodding matches that build to a finish. Not acrobats. Has it always been this way, or have your tastes changed over time? I'm not sure. I was a big mark for top rope finishers when I was younger but I never really liked the high-flying style. Just as finishers. 11. Where do you "draw the line" with the whole "suspended disbelief" deal? I wish it was presented as more of a sport, with rankings and whatnot. It's hard to believe that Batista can lose 10 times in a row and still be the #1 contender... 12. Do you attend live events? Yes I do, whenever they come to my city. I've only traveled to two shows though. One was an ROH show and the other was a WWF house show. I've been to all but one that have came to my city. 13. If applicable, what are the best and worst experiences you've had going to a show live? I've had a lot, actually. Allison Danger yelling at me that I "don't have shit!" Alex Shelley trying to come through the crowd by jumping over people and I didn't see him coming and he ran into the back of me and fell down. Slapping the shit out of Huge Morrus at a Thunder taping. Screaming in Raven's ear trying to get him to break character. 14. What are your favourite matches, moments, or events? I like the love triangle stuff a lot. I think it makes for feel good TV moments. Savage & Liz getting back together at the end of Warrior/Savage at WM7 for example. I liked the Jericho/Trish/Christian stuff. I liked the Angle/HHH/Steph stuff. I even liked the Matt Hardy/Lita/Edge stuff.

Jeff Hardy not at all rushed to Emergency Room (WWE.com storyline)

I actually really want it to not be a work now just to read all of the back-peddling. -

Wade Keller flipping out about this is pretty hilarious. Talk about overreacting and blowing things out of proportion. -

Only if the people replying to this thread spend money and actually buy the pay-per-view. -

If it is a work then it is one of the worst works WWE have ever done. From a business standpoint I mean. -
The "Beautiful People" cut one of the worst backstage promos, segments, whatever the hell it was supposed to be, that I have ever watched in wrestling. Their catchphrases are abyssmal. Angelina looks downright dreadful standing next to Velvet as well. THAT'S one of the highest rated things on Impact? The highlight of them is their fucking of the second rope during their ring entrance and I watched Francine do that a decade ago.
-
I thought the same thing. Need to question wrestlers that are more bitter!
-
So, are we "lookin' at the real deal now?"
-
If Bobby Lashley ever going to come in? I assume that they're going to try to get him and I wouldn't doubt that they would strap him within the first month. He was in WWE, afterall. That's more than Joe!
-
I'm still not seeing all this talk about a new WWE Womens title being introduced. I guess we'll have to wait and watch to find out but it just sounds like to me, froim reading, that the winner will challenge for the belt, not that Vickie is making a new one. Also, unless Beth wins the belt back on a random TV show, I'm assuming Night of Champions will be a match involving the Champion, Mickie James.
-
Isn't Mickie the champion, not Beth?
-
I disagree very strongly. I disagree with you. Matt Hardy is a career midcarder. If the Edge/Hardy stuff initially after the Lita drama didn't send him anywhere, nothing will. He doesn't have the "it" factor. He's just a bow-legged redneck that fat chicks love 'cause they think they have a shot.
-
I'm not going to argue with you, Jingus. I'm entitled to my opinion whether you agree or not. Roode and Young are boring. It's not all to do with their writing. Everything about them is boring, including bell-to-bell. They both get ridiculous pushes and ridiculous TV time because they're buddies with D'Amore and/or Jarrett.
-
Eh, I'm a firm believer that good wrestlers (a.k.a. not boring or bland) can get bad writing over.
-
If there ever was a WWE PPV to get, this is it.
