  1. Ha! I'm the only one who voted the first way... :P

I'd rather watch ESPN and I'm not big on protesting as a rule. I do think it is valid, I just don't want to watch it. I just can't get into the retro clothing and silly signs. I just don't enjoy watching this kind of stuff and I certainly wouldn't go out to an event. The massive spending, bailouts, endless debt, printing up money out of no where, it all concerns me, but Obama was elected with huge Democractic majorities. Its what people want right now. ho hum.

  2. Susan Roesgen seems to have made herself the story. CNN at least plays it closer to the vest than MSNBC most of the time, but that wasn't their finest moment claiming the events were anti-CNN. Man, get over yourself. Judging by the ratings, CNN isn't really on anyone's minds as of late. Also, debating some guy about Obama... oh man, lady, are you a reporter or an advocate because you can't be both.

CNN Correspondent Claims Tea Parties 'Anti-government,' 'Anti-CNN'

Also, Anderson Cooper made some sexual joke... ho hum.

  3. So, this is the great save. They lecture us over so-called past injustices like Chris, Jennifer, etc. then use the save on Matt? Da hell? He is a guy the public will never allow to win, and he will never have a recording career.

Although, if next week was the last week to use it, and odds are it'd be Lill, I guess the show didn't want to be forced into using it on her or not using it.

  4. This is a case where journalism shows itself as little other than a sad exercise in profiteering and nothing more.

Uproar over 'news story' ad on front page of LA Times

    snip

WASHINGTON (AFP) — An advertisement dressed up as a news story on the front page of the Los Angeles Times has reporters at the newspaper fuming and the publisher defending the move.

The advertisement, for the NBC television series "Southland," appeared on page one of the Times on Thursday. Although it was labelled "advertisement," the ad resembled a news story complete with a bold-type headline.

According to the blog MediaMemo, more than 100 staffers at the newspaper signed a petition protesting the appearance of the fake news story ad on the front page.

"We the journalists of the newsroom strenuously object to the decision to sell an ad, in the form of a phony news story, on the front page of the Los Angeles Times," mediamemo.allthingsd.com quoted the petition as saying.

"The NBC ad may have provided some quick cash, but it has caused incalculable damage to this institution," it said. "Placing a fake news article on A-1 makes a mockery of our integrity and our journalistic standards.

"Our willingness to sell our most precious real estate to an advertiser is embarrassing and demoralizing," the petition said.

    Sad.grim.pathetic.

  5. Media big shots lamenting the internet destroying their profits:

Media Insiders Say Internet Hurts Journalism

    snip

In a poll of prominent members of the national news media, nearly two-thirds say the Internet is hurting journalism more than it is helping. The poll, conducted by The Atlantic and National Journal, asked 43 media insiders whether, on balance, journalism has been helped more or hurt more by the rise of news consumption online. Sixty-five percent said journalism has been hurt more, while 34 percent said it has been helped more.

The media insiders were also asked about coverage of President Obama. Of 45 respondents, 71 percent say it has been “about right,” 22 percent say it’s been “too easy” and 7 percent say it has been “too tough.”

Those who say that news consumption on the Internet is, on balance, hurting journalism note the way the online experience is changing reader habits. The “hurt more” group also says that while the Internet offers benefits, the cost to traditional media and news-gathering is too high.

“A year ago, I would have given a different answer. The increases in audience reach and communication with the audience are incredibly gratifying. But the cost to the business model (R.I.P. Seattle P-I) and the inability of the business model to monetize the Internet means that there is a disturbing net cost to newsgathering. If you're not covering your state delegation in D.C., or the state legislature back home, or the city council, bad things are going to happen, undiscovered.”

Oh how I cry for them... god forbid people have choices where to get news. Welcome to the 24 news cycle.

  6. If you can't see how a media figure using his listeners to put pressure on office holders to obstruct the president's agenda (and to have so much influence that anyone in the Republican Party who disagrees with him is immediately forced to apologize) is news, I don't know what to tell you.

The entire "Is Rush the leader of the Republican Party?" played as a "When did you stop beating your wife?" type question, imo... my understanding it was the one figure the old Clinton warmachine found that polled low and they started this mess. The media is far less concerned with the OMG!important news and critical problems of the day and will get bogged down in trivia matters when it suits them. Maybe if they had been on their tows, they'd have saw the provision for the bonuses a lot sooner (as well as figure out who was behind it, Dodd or the Obama White House). That was my orginal point.

I can safely say had anyone other than Obama made the crack, it'd have been a week long story.

  7. As it should be. With all of this country's problems considered, you really want our extended focus to be on a joke the rights are too sensitive to absorb?

Eh... In one sense, I agree, on the other hand, the double standard bugs me. If the media can spend countless weeks using a private citizen, Rush, as a straw-man boogyman at the behest of the White House and some old Clinton flunkies, they can hold Obama's feet to the fire for more than a day over a remark about the handicap.

Besides, Obama is the one who thought it'd be a good idea to go on Leno. Its not anyone but his fault if his comedy is disrespectful.

  8. I've always assumed Christian is an avatar the Smoke Monster takes… just a wild theory. The smoke monster taking the form of Mr. Eko's brother and telling him to keep pushing that button... so, it fits.

  9. Just play an extra quarter.

I don't like getting rid of kickoffs and/or field goals in OT. The damn game is called FOOTball, afterall.

All aspects of the game should continue to impact the score in OT, just as they did in the first four quarters.

The more gimmicky the solution, the less I like it.

  10. PC-ism is never used against dems, so its just going to end up another thing the media will brush under the rug.

Also, remember the uproar over that mad-chimp getting shot, needing a new one to write the stimulus bill political cartoon... Racism!!!!... even though Obama didn't write the bill, much less read the damn thing.

Obama did make a joke about Nancy Reagan, so he has a history of being, at the least, tactless.
