wow that site actually gives you some real prespective on how far he fell. But boy did those pics give me the chills I also have some paper clippings from my local paper that I keep in my room. I couldnt even sleep that night when it happened

    The DDP/Johnny B. Badd feud of 95-96

They said the contract stated that if Page didn't win the TV Title, his career would be over. Since Booty Man wasn't the TV Champion there was no way Page could win the belt so he was reinstated. oh ok , thanks for the info.

    The Age of Jobbers

well seeing as our only choice for weekly wrestling is wwe (and to a lesser extent TNA-who uses squashes often on Impact) I guess you have a point Hunter

Why is Vince favoring the World Title

well maybe the smark cards are turning huh? Batista is an interesting case isnt he? But im still pretty sure that the majority hate JBL because he is big guy who gets pushed only cuz he is a big guy , even if they wont admit it. anyhow it was all just my opinion dont get upset about it, you have the right to share your views too ok yikes

    The Age of Jobbers

the problem with this idea is that we and all fans are all accostomed to big time matches on free tv. It would be quite a shock to have mostly squashes on a raw or sd. even if you filled heat or velocity with squashes, no one is gona watch it. the reason we all used to watch superstars and challenge every week was because that was the only time we could see wwf wrestling, since there was only primetime and allamerican wrestling on cable and not everyone had cable. my point is no one would watch heat anyway so why not put squashes on there. I think a few jobber matches would help to better establish newcomers. theyve tried that a couple of times recently (like having Mordecai basically squash S2H at Judgment Day) . But i mean using real jobbers Without squashes we get something like Carlito challenging for the us title in his first appearance and winning it. sure he got heat, but thats only cuz he cheated cena a fan favorite out of it. with squashesm newcomers got a chance to show their offense to the crowd and get over their finishers, so when they did make it to ppv, the fans would know them at least. a lot of top indy guys have been joobers on heat/velocity I even remember Kazarian from TNA getting squashed by kaientai in a tag match on velocity about 4 years ago (of course he wasnt a huge indy star at the time but he was on the rise, and was just a month removed from a local indy show at our local boys and girls club in front of 50 people) and Jesus has been on heat and velocity numerous times under his real name of Aaron Aguilera(he also used to be at my local indys shows) of course if youre not counting his time as one of the bogus conquistadores from late 2000 geez whats with all the hype for samoa joe? I saw him a few times at those same indy shows at the boys and girls club and he didnt seem like anything special. should I be bothering to track down ROH tapes to check him out now or what? just wondering.

Why is Vince favoring the World Title

To me JBL is a strong heel in a difeerent way than the hhh beat everybody clean or with help way he has been shown to be able to be in the ring and keep up with guys like eddie, taker, and booker. though he has needed help to win, the fans seem to buy him as a viable me guy (though its difficult to judge cuz of sd being taped and all and the heat machine seems to be in full effect again) and at the very least they hate the guy and want to see him lose. Im not saying he should be the world champ, but if he had got the same persona and not been thrown in the main event scene, how would he have done in the midcard ? not very well. the title adds heat to him. It gives him a reason to be, a reason to cheat, a reason to surround himself with others to save his title. This is basically the same mold as a Flair or a HHH except they are better wrestlers (and in no way am I really comparing JBL as a wrestler to Flair). I think we need to get past the smark bias towards any wrestlers who "cant work" The point is to draw fans and PPV buys. however thats also the same area where JBL has come up lame. But I think it has a lot to do with smackdown being perceived as the inferior brand, and a lack of good opponents for JBL outside of Eddie or a cena or even an RVD when he was around. Im not advocating keeping the title on Bradshaw, but Im saying that it could be a lot worse. Imagine if he didnt have any heel charisma. just the generic APA bradshaw but fighting babyfaces wouldnt be too exciting. back to the topic at hand, SD is treated as an inferior show, so it gets that kind of reaction from fans. I dont know if they are any brand specific fans, just wwe fans who watch the shows cuz they like wrestling. and since sd seems dull, less will watch it and buy its ppvs. RAW draws more on PPV and TV due to the fact that it has a far better roster and a varied amount of top level and possible top level guys. It has the #1 heel in the WWE (Trips) the flavor of the month hot commmodity in Batista (well see if he has staying power) , old school guys like Flair and HBK, a better selection of midcarders , etc. and when it comes to drawing fans to the arena, well that may be different. cuz if youre a hardcore wwe fan you will go to any show that you can, no matter if its raw or sd or ppv or house show. at least thats what I believe The WWE title is technically the only stable title right now. we have seen only 7 title changes since the wwe title became sd exclusive, while the RAW title has seen 8 (if you count the recent title vacancy) however since hhhs long 9 month reign in 02-03 (from hbk to goldberg) the sd title is the only one that has stayed with one guy for 6 months. maybe we should be discussing why Vince now thinks that its a good idea to have a long reigning heel champion as opposed to a long reigning babyface champion like he always used to.

    Shows you've been to.

Henry Godwinn didnt pin HHH in the hogpen match. HHH won the match and the way to win was to throw your opponent in the pen. After the match HOG threw HHH in so maybe thats the confusion wasnt he Pinned in the 96 survivor sreies match? (maybe he wasnt I dont remember) and he was pinned at backlash 2000 by rock to win the title, yea austin interfered, but rock won the match with the peoples elbow. and he pinned him clean in the iron man match as well austin pinned hhh clean in the first fall of the nwo 01 match as well alvarez might want to do his homework anyhow the match I forgot in the wwa ppv was Eddie Guerreo def Psychosis and Juventud guerrera in a three way match for the WWA Cruiserweight title

Name wrestlers and their greatest opponents

Lesnar and Rey had a one on one nontitle match early 2004 on sd I think it was. It was in clai so rey was the hometown fav and came close to winning before brock squashed him. the match wasnt that good If I recall Benoit made Brock tap at survivor series 03, but the only meanigfull one on one match between the two was sd where Benoit made brock tap but the ref was out. This set up heyman making benoit #1 in the rumble cuz he was afraid he could beat brock I agree on austin-rock Its rare to have two hugely over guys who meshed as well as they did and without many backstage problems (neither man had a problem jobbing to the other, thought austin holds the edge in wins over rock) Hogan-Savage as well angle-benoit (anytime they meet in the ring, instant classic) to a lesser extent Id say Brock-Angle for Big Show Id say Brock as well, he had his best matches in wwe with brock.

    The DDP/Johnny B. Badd feud of 95-96

And the reason Page returned in may 96 was that he found in a loophole in the uncensored contract, since the original match was him vs badd with his career on the line, since badd couldnt wrestle there, the contrcat was void so the booty man match never had that clause . at least this is how I remember the storyline in fact before uncensroed, ddp was so ppor he had to sell his tights to a jobber. at uncensored he wearing old, ripped tights with holes in them. he came back, backed by his benefactor and won the battlebowlmatch at slamboree (and the battlebowl ring, which he proceeded to defend against marcus bagwell and hacskaw jim duggan, before losing it to eddy guerrero at the aug 96 clash) anyhow that was a great recap of a feud that I enjoyed during its run

    What If....

heres an excerpt from my Pillma report to further my point (note I wrote his carrer highlights in mostly kayfabed sentences, figuring it would be harder to research all the backstage stuff and I doubt my teacher would care) "During his life, Brian Pillman made tremendous contributions to the wrestling business and his courage was very admirable. Brian Pillman, the wrestler of WCW and WWF fame, was a man whose courage was simply amazing. We only knew the man on television, but Brian was much more than that. He had a rugged journey through life. For Brian, life was one big challenge. Brian Pillman was born on May 22, 1963 in Norwood, Ohio. Unfortunately, his early years were much harder than the average boy's. Soon after his birth, doctors discovered that Brian had throat cancer. He would need immediate surgery. Brian subsequently had to undergo the pain of 36 surgeries to rid himself of the cancer. It would cause him a scar on his neck and a raspy voice for the rest of his life due to an artificial larynx. Brian was brave at that young age. He overcame this threat to his life so early. But it was just the first of many challenges. Brian would have a tough time growing up. His frustration built up due to it. He found a way to vent his anger-sports. Despite his small size, Brian courageously chose to play football. He did great playing at Norwood High and would receive a football scholarship to the University of Miami (Ohio). Brian excelled in college, becoming a two time All-American. Strangely, Brian was the only All-American not to be picked in the 1984 NFL draft. But this didn't deter Brian. Later that year, Brian walked on with the Cincinnati Bengals and made the team. He proved that you didn't have to be the biggest guy to play in the NFL. Brian received a high honor for his efforts-The Ed Block Courage Award. Brian played for the Bengals for a year, and the Buffalo Bills for another year. Soon after, Brian traveled to Canada to play for the Canadian Football League's (CFL) Calgary Stampeders. Soon, Brian would suffer a career ending injury to his ankle. Despite the setback, Brian turned the negative into a positive. While in Calgary, he had become a close friend of the famous Hart family. They persuaded him to become a pro wrestler and Brian agreed to try. He was trained by Stu Hart in the infamous "dungeon". Brian also trained with Stu's sons Bret , Owen, and Bruce. Brian made his pro debut in 1987 for Stu's Calgary Stampede wrestling organization. Brian soon teamed up with Bruce Hart to win his first title-The Calgary Stampede International Tag Team titles on April 6, 1987. They would hold the belts two times. After gaining experience in Calgary and other places, Brian made his way to the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA). Here was Brian, again competing in a sport made for the big guys. But his size didn't matter. This showed his heart and determination. Brian loved being a part of a big company and getting exposure on national television and showcasing his talents for millions. He had an up and down career. He once left and came back under a mask as the "Yellow Dog". He made his pay-per-view debut on July 23, 1989 at the Great American Bash. He lasted all the way to the end of the battle royal. Brian moved his status up on the contender's list. Brian got a shot at U.S. heavyweight champion Lex Luger at Halloween Havoc 1989. This would be one of his greatest matches and probably his breakthrough performance. He put up a great fight against the powerful and seemingly unbeatable Luger. Brian lost the match, but was a winner in his defeat. Fans were noticing him for something else besides his Bengal trunks. Brian had a big fan base and entertained them well with his aerial wrestling skills, which would earn him the nickname "Flyin' Brian". Brian had many great matches against people such as the legendary Ric Flair. Brian won his first NWA title- the U.S. Tag Team Titles with partner "The Z Man" Tom Zenk on February 12, 1990. They were an impressive duo. They lost the belts on May 19, 19~and Brian again focused on singles action. In January 1991, the NWA became WCW (World Championship Wrestling). Brian showed his great courage at Wrestle War 1991 when he stood up against the monster Sid in the War Games match and wouldn't quit. Ultimately, he passed out and lost the match for his team but heagain was a winner in defeat. Brian became the first WCW Light-Heavyweight champion by winning a tournament, beating Ricky Morton in the finals at Halloween Havoc 1991"

    What If....

I hope you got an "F" for writing an english paper on a wrestler instead of someone who was important to whatever the topic was. Nope infact I got an A. The report was not really that important, it was just to prepare us for college where you do huge research papers, and since it was english the only thing that mattered was to have good grammar and througouly cite the sources of media you used. I wasnt going to do it on Pillman, but the teach said the only requirement was that the person was somehow famous and was dead for at least 2 years (no lying here either) now that I think of it, it sounds lame, but Im proud that I got my teacher to somehow respect wrestling (My point was that Pillman was a great entertainer who showed a lot of courage throughout his life fighting throat cancer and various injuries as well as addictions-thus his courage and contributions to wrestling were admirable--infact my thesis word for word was was "During his life, Brian Pillman made tremendous contributions to the wrestling business and his courage was very admirable" you think this sounds bad a month later I did an owen hart profile(owen actually died in the middle of me writing the pillman paper and I added a tribute to him there as well) in late 99 for my 11th grade spanish class (other kids came up with worse subjects tahn that so dont hate on me)the only point of it was to show I could write well in spanish. In fact I wrote many things about wrestling in my school years In my career explorations class, my partner and I did a presentation on opening a business, the business we chose? you guessed it: a wrestling company. we did an event poster and everything In my high school senior essay, I picked watching the 1990 survivor series (which made me a fan) as a life changing moment In college, I did a book report on Mick Foleys first book. Then in my creative writing class, I did a short piece of fanstasy booking the end of the hhh/angle/steph storyline (in my story angle won the feud and steph) . then for my last work in the class I did a TV sitcom Pilot for a show that featured Scott Kieth having Vince Russo be his new roomate (since he had just written a column bashing russo)dont believe me? Ill post that someday Then when I was on the school newspaper staff in the spring of 2001 I did my first piece, a review of the wwf vol 5 cd for our entertainment section (which proudly hangs on my wall as we speak sorry to go offtopic there but my point is, I have never been afraid to tell the world that I love pro wrestling and the fact that I managed to get good grades for doing schoolwork based off it makes it extra sweet.

Yea that was quite a pop, funny how 5 months later the demos were ex champs and heels who garnered little reaction and died a slow death(cant believe they lasted till wm7)

    WWE's Tape Library

speaking of Owen, Im sure they kept the rest of over the edge 99 on tape right? Thats likely the rarest video out there, only held by tape traders who taped it themselves and perhaps in the wwe vault. I doubt anything from that ppv will ever be shown (however wwf superstars that aired the next wwek, I have it on tape and they showed clips of the owen tribute, as well as updated the viwers with still shots as to the results of the ppv. weirder than that, I live on the west coast so heat is tape delayed here, thus at 7pm pst (which was like two hours after owen fell) heat aired. I watched it , thinking myabe theyd tell usa to put updates on the bottom of the screen, as I had heard about the fall and death by looking up live reports of the ppv online.

    What If....

I would think that he would have had Foleys role as the first challenger to austin, or maybe he would have been the summerslam opponent for austin (more likely) Its too bad what happened to him. his death affected me alot because that was the first time since I had been watching wrestling, that a wrestler died while in the midst of being in the major companies. add that to the fact that I was a Pillman mark from the early 90s. Thats why I did my 11th grade English research paper on him as I mentioned in this forum a while back. there too I speculated what might have been, but hey we cant play god so theres no use in it. Like anything else in life they are plenty of what if things about wrestling

OAO pre-No Way Out No Way Out thread

and why has the build for show/jbl been so slight? the dart gun thing was lame, I thought the darts knocked you out, cmon if one took out big show, youd think it would be enough to put down jbl, so why would show be dumb enough to fall for that? besides even if he truly belived JBL was out of it, why would he bother going to the ring, whats he going to do, be up a defenseless man? wouldnt that make him a heel? I guess he knew he was faking and tried to pretend he fell for it and thus would be ready for the ambush that followed. Great booking wwe

    TNA Against All Odds predictions

actually about nash/jj I was just thinking. do you remember the last time these two main evented a ppv for a world title? that would be Great American BAsh 2000, where Goldberg turned heel and cost nash the match with a spear. Anyhow this will be the 2md ppv theve headlined for a world tile, and actually the third world title they competed against each other for (diesel once beat double j on raw in a wwf title match I think in 95) anyhow how can they book two heels against each other and expect a response (I know Nash is leaning face, but he continues to act like a heel and infact never turned face) anyhow my prediction sare (though I am not ordering the show and have no way to see it ) BG James and Jeff Hammond vs. Michael Shane and Kazarian Winners: James and Hammond Skipper vs. Petey Williams Winner: Skipper (why are they having a heel vs heel match anyway?)to set up a skipper vs daniels x title match down the line, maybe the next ppv) Raven vs. Dustin Rhodes Winner: Raven(I hope) Monty Brown and Diamond Dallas Page vs. Eric Young and Bobby Roode Winners: Brown and DDP Full Metal Mayhem: Jeff Hardy vs. Abyss Winner: Abyss TNA X-Title Championship AJ Styles vs. Christopher Daniels Winner: Chris Daniels (since no one else seems to think hell win) NWA World Tag-Team Championship America's Most Wanted vs. Kid Kash and Lance Hoyt Winners: America's Most Wanted NWA World Heavyweight Championship Jeff Jarrett vs. Kevin Nash Winner: Nash

When they come back - Lita, Hardy, RVD

thats a strecth to say that snitsky was hired to do it, cuz it happened so accidentally, how would matt know that kane and lita would be together in the ring like that and that a chair shot and kane falling on her would kill the baby (actually I still dont see how that did it) it could be that it was revelaed that Matt gave her an abortion pill or somethin, or he paid the doctors off and they did an abortion while lita was knocked out and acted like she had a msicarriage (ok ok that is pretty convoluted I admit)

Why is Vince favoring the World Title

all good heels eventually get face pops. JBL will have a face turn this year, you can probably bet on that. the reason he eventually got over as the main eventer is because he developed a unique heel persona, the beer drinking bradshaw had little room for upward mobility. He must be thanking the stars that ron simmons got fired. he is a strong heel champion whether the smarks admit it or not. sure he needs help to win alot, but thats totally old school booking there so its cool. when ever he loses the title it will mean alot more.

OAO pre-No Way Out No Way Out thread

I agree, but they always have to make Taker look unbeatable and book him to strike fear in everyones heart, as if Luther in a real fight would sweat taker, Taker is an old man with bad legs, Luther nearly dies everal times, he woudlnt care he do whatever it took to win. taker as the guy everyone feared worked well in the eraly 90s, but now the guys pushing 40 (that is unless he is already somebody help me here), is balding, and looks ridicoulous in his biker/dead man combo outfit. besides, we all know whos doin the JOB at the ppv as for possible matches, I would also do a rey.eddie vs the bashams. funaki vs akio would be a good match. you could also do a kidman/london #1contender match that would have interest since they never resolved their feud (velocity doesnt count) then set up the funaki vs london for mania angle could do a hometown challenge since its his hometown, then force theo long to book cena in a us title match before the tourney finals match (threatening to get long in more trouble with the board if he refuses) my feeling though is that hbk will cost angle the match against cena, as if they need a weak challenger for mania personally they shouldnt even have this ppv, whats the point? it hurts mania I think. you could just do the show/jbl match on a free pre view smackdown, that would also feature the cena/angle, and tag title matches as well as cw title match. i guess vince just wants to squeeze some extra money out of pur pockets huh

    Rob Van Dam DVD

I thought it was interesting to hear about how sabu started off as a good techincal wrestler, but RVD taught him the high risk stuff, while sabu showed him ring psychology and how to be a man. then again he probably is just exxagerating anyway, I watched the Scotty flamingo match,RVD/Axl match, but the best was RVD/Sabu from Hostlie City showdown 96. what a match, sure it was pretty much a spotfest, but it was a good spotfest, that actually featured some sort of psych. like RVDs broken wrist making it harder for him to lift sabu. of course it was topped off by Rob no selling sabus handshake and walking away, marking the start of his heel run, as a disrespectful, arrogant jerk. Ill let you know my full thoughts whenever I finish watching the discs (anyone else annoyed how the pat rose match and the first sabu match as well as the rvd/balls match are on the 2nd disc? you have to switch back and forth between the two if you want to stay in chronological order while watching

    More on Amy Weber's departure

You know Trips was just waiting to hear jericho was behind it somehow, "vince fire that man, after I beat him 260-0 in an iron man match on raw" anyhow its kinda sad to see grown men acting this way. and especially toward women too. grow up Randy , and JBL youre pushin 40, act like it
  24. Jericholic82

Why is Vince favoring the World Title

this may be a rare example of vince actually liking something about WCW. no matter what you say, that title technically is the wcw world title, which had its early history in the NWA title (but sinc ethe NWA broke off from them it doesnt have the lineage) so vince is actually saying he likes wcw in a weird way. and I dont want to hear about how it doesnt count since wcw is gone. since vince bought wcw he bought the title lineage as well. the undisputed title had the wcw and wwe titles in it. since brock jumped to sd, the title was disputed (in kayfabe then bischoff went to the board and got permisision to strip the world title out of it-of course he chose that belt he was the former head of wcw) nonetheless, it probably is a good idea to have a champ for each show, even though the roving champ idea was something new, this at least keeps the split right (i refuse to call it a brand extension, its a roster split) . think about it, theyve at least done the split well, infact so well that we all marked out for the sd vs raw clash at the rumble. and interpromotional matches will have a lot of luster to them due to the fact of the 3 years of the split and some new stars who hjave never faced wrestlers on the other show. that being said, sooner or later the whole split idea will end , most likely if TNA or some other promotion gets a monday night show and actually starts to draw comparable ratings. vince loves raw, its his baby (he was the first to have the idea of a live/taped show every monday as opposed to studio segments introing taped matches from house shows like prime time was-wcw sat nite doesnt count cuz it was on sat duh lol) smackdown came along only because of the wrestling boom and vince wanted to outdo wcw (who was the first to create a second live weekly show with thunder, though it tanked after the top stars stopped appearing on it) so thus vinc ecares more about RAW. Personally I come to favor RAW myself, but thats mainly due to the fact that it is on cable and is live every week, opposed to the taped/edited sd on an inferior network like upn(my local upn has terrible picture quality on my cable so thats also an issue) but its better to have two different shows a week, as opposed to watching the same people twice a week.

When they come back - Lita, Hardy, RVD

I think its fine if rvd gets cheered as a heel at least he would have his true character/persona back, then you can make him a tweener who gets monster cheers (like he was for preety much all his career) and I think they need bill alphonso instead of heyman
