WCW facts, tidbits, and stuff people forgot
Jericholic82 replied to JoeDirt's topic in General Wrestling
Whether they had TV or not, the fact remains that WCW was a dead brand by 2001. Vince had clearly gained a solid grip on the industry and what minor portion of the audience WCW had left was almost a complete non-factor. By 2000, WCW had to essentially give away free tickets just to get a crowd in for their tapings. TNA does this now, but they only run the arena in Orlando which barely fits 1000 people, and they have their production is run in such a way that they can do this and still not run at a loss. WCW was running 12,000 seat arenas, still trying to keep up a pretty hi tech production, and was still not selling any tickets or merchandise, and no one was watching at home. The only thing left by 2001 that had any value was the Tape Library, the brand itself was tarnished beyond repair. which is all pretty sad, cuz in early 2001, WCW was staring to get better IMO You had aton of new, young talent, a sorta fresh main event scene with Steiner and Booker, the cruiserweight singles and tag division, etc. -
Thats right on. No wonder the crowd didnt react that loudly it was so random. It was obvious they toned it down so as not to distract from HHHS big main event with Batista. If thier JD match happened here it would have been much more memorable. and after how many months of JBL barely holding onto the title, you'd have hoped for a better, more satisfying end

That's fucking cool shit. Oh crap I remember that I think the fed was called IWCCW or something like that. I totally didnt remember styles being the announcer, but thats where I first saw Tommy Dreamer and Taz on TV

Moore actually had the prince of punk chrachter (and hair) before he got canned by wwe last year. It was actually Josh Matthews on Velocity who dubbed him that (after Shannon "All That And" Moore) but he was in TNA for literally a cop of coffee so why would they need to bury him. I think they just signed him to screw over TNA and that's about as far as they thought. Joey not even mentioning that sabu and rvd were the tag champs in ecw was quite odd. But of course the idea here is to push Test and Knox. and isnt sabu a little mad about that time when RVD hit sabu with a chair during his return (while Sabu was wrestling Angle for the #1contenders spot)? But it was good ot see them team again as they work well together, I wish they would bring back the gimmick of how Sabu doesnt really like RVD and RVD is only about himself that used to make their matches fun. Bingo comments HHH? Come on that arena looked bigger than the one used for raw this week. at least the crowd seemed into the show last night I guess. and if anyone missed any of the matches , ecw.com has that hardcore hangover thing throughout the week where every night they put up a match from the show. You can even download them to your pc

actually thats about right. On theRAW the night after SS 02, Undertaker came out to challenge Brock, but then so did HHH, so Bischoff made them fight that night for the #1 contenders spot. HHH won. The end of the show saw Brock Lesnar backstage with Steph in a limo, announcing he was going to sd exclusively and refused to wrestle on raw. Taker jumped to SD that week and won the #1contenders series (a neat format) and faced Lsenar at unforgiven. On the next raw after Brocks jump, Bischoff came out and said that since Brock refused to wrestle on RAW, the undisputed title was indeed in dispute so he brought out the world title (old wcw belt) and gave it to HHH since he was the #1 contender. (HHH went on that night to beat Flair, then lose in a tag match with Jericho to RVD and Flair with RVD getting the pin to close the show, and set up their match at Unforgiven)

Anyone's Bike so they can be a tag team version of repo man? anyhow I digress, Wrestling has always been a breeding ground for racial and stereotype personas, plu smany tasteless angles (Katie Vick anyone?) either this will catch on or be forgotten about and have them as jobbers on heat for the rest of their stay hey if the highlanders can sorta ctach on and perhaps even win the tag titles (which is a rel possiblity with the SSS set to break up), why not Cryme Time? (if their theme is a ripoff of Elix Skippers wcw "primetime" theme-which in fact was a DMX song ripoff- it would be cool) Cryme Time Baby, Cryme Time man I suck

Changed my team to "Team 914" I think I'll stick with it. man can't ever think of a great name. I was gonna just put Jericholic82's Crew or somethin but it sounded dumb to me, what do you think? oh well we got another month or so

speaking of which, when is this show gonna be on again?

it was weird to see him walking without cane, but he still kept the House persona we love so much. also riding a skateboard around just cuz he can was pretty funny. House's inner torment and battle is pretty interesting, as he is a very complex character. I wonder what will happen this year if this is how it starts. someone is gonna find out he is popping pills again for no reason. I think he misses the drug induced state he was always in and his reason for being miserable (leg pain) as well as last year when he pushed away the woman he truly loves. But the premiere was ok, maybe not as good as last years with LL cool J as the death row guy. House burnign th e"paralyzed" girl to prove she can feel, and then later while she was choking trying to scare her by saying "I'm going to stick the big needle in your spine". Plus when he noticed the discolored toenails and his saying to others that "that is not a pretty big toe" had me ROTFL. The coming attractions for next week has me intrigued, though we already have a great quote "This metal is not recognized by our lab" "really?" "no you idiot!"

thank you

I would be cautious, I know someone who recently had that done and had bad, painfull swelling in the area for over a month, then again he is an older guy
-
nice how we heard cornettes voice before he asked west to have it patched into the arena. And how loud is that phone anyhow? that was rather wcw-esque
-
prob, just like he' ll be edited on pillmans dvd in the liger superbrawl match, and Im not sure if was the announcer for slamboree 93 too

WCW facts, tidbits, and stuff people forgot
Jericholic82 replied to JoeDirt's topic in General Wrestling
remember in late 96/early 97 the nwo took over saturday night and had their guys facing jobbers in squash matches and nash doing commentary IIRC What I remembe rmostly about the nwo takover of nitro, was Nashs hilarious commentary (Bischoff asked him what he wanted for xmas, and he replied a "big bag of money") and Rick Rude absolutely going off on Sting while doing commentary (he hated sting for "ending his career" as you may know Sting wa sin the ring with Rude when Rude suffered his career ending neck injury in 94) -
oh yea forgot about that. The weird thing is this lady who was my ex-neighbor (from about 6 years back) was infact the niece of Adrian (I think he was married to her aunt). And she remembered the funeral and how Piper apprantly did a eulogy and was very upset.
-
yea thats why I said Im not sure if these count I couldnt really think of a real good example when I posted second the hardy-edge match
-
you hit the nail on the head there John great quote that sgetting sigged
-
this sucked, It seemed as if they wanted to gte rid of him since he was the least big star (in their mind anyhow) on the show. I mean they made him sing country and stevie wonder? UGHHHH He was out of his element here, I guess he figured if Stacy could get some kind of acting gigs from this, then so could he, he really should have plugged Fozzy though. Or comes out during the 2nd week show and read his list of 1001 songs he can sing better than Cheech

Suncoast/Sam Goody going out of business!
Jericholic82 replied to Anakin Flair's topic in Television & Film
sam goody here closed recently too, I just figured that out when I took a walk around the shopping center where I work during alunch break. damn I missed the sales -
Just saw some of the last pics of Steve from friday on the cbs ny news anyhow this is sad, especially considering he had a family. Always weird to see someone famous die young, we forget theyre humans too, but I guess Steve was kinda like a superhero of sort to most. His show was pretty fun and informative and I always enjoyed his late night talk show appearances. RIP Steve

then how come they didnt have a problem when they relased the vhs wm legacy collection? hell thewy didnt even edit out real songs either anyhow yea this is old news but still newsworthy.

Henry Godwinn is coming back? no wonder JR called a inverse ddt a "slop drop" last week on raw anyhow I worked until 10 so I only saw the show from the end of the 3 way tag match on, luckily I have the telemundo 2 channel which replays raw twice on weds nights. anyhow here are thoughts from what I saw- Flair's facial expressions during and after the kiss were hilarious Carlito asking Trish what is so great about orton, and what is this about (does ortons pose) had me rotfl Ortons heelishness was great during the main event, I really enjoyed the way he rkod trish, then did the you cant see me hand signal to the refs back once again Benoit and Jericho are calling you JR (no edge is not undefeated in TLC) I wonder how theyre going to book Trish/lita? I mean you could pay the right tribute by having her win the match, but how can she when its a title match? Myabe it should be non-title so they could just do that. Or maybe she will win it and theyll vacate it or somethin, so if Lita leaves she wont have a title either
