    Survivor : Palau

I have no idea how Ian survived last night's TC; I thought for sure that he was a goner. I think that Tom's fucked next week, Ian's so whipped over having big Katie as his BFF that he'd rather screw over his one true ally to make sure she's happy. And I think if it's either Tom or Ian in the final 2 with Jenn, she'd win: Gregg, Steph, Janu, and Coby would probably vote for her against either guy, so it would just take one other vote to get the money. ... doesn't Ian, ahem, prefer the company of men? I mean, the guy trains dolphins. The only thing gayer might be to train unicorns. Potentially major spoilers about the final 2: One of the survivor sucks message boards has spoilers saying that whe Janu (or it might have been Steph) slipped and already announced that Katie makes it to the final 2 ... the other one is allegedly Jenn

    LOST

No doubt, Rudo, they have set it up for Sayid to do something physical to Locke to prevent him from opening the hatch ... a la the shot to the head that Locke gave Sayid. Sadly, there's not enough time left in the season for it to play out. Either it won't happen, or they'll have to rush through it.

    What players do you

Well, none of mine are for no reason at all, but all are really small/petty reasons ... and mine are NHL only. Love: Nick Boynton: when he was a rookie he jumped & fought a much bigger & stronger Keith Primeau to protect a teammate ... gotta respect that. Jeremy Roenick & Brett Hull: one of these two should retire today, and replace Bettman tomorrow ... I like them both more for their personalities than for their superstar skill levels. PJ Stock: 5'9", 180 lbs and fighting guys 8" taller and 70 lbs heavier. His brawls with Peat were the best fights of the last 5 years. Ken Belanger: Got game misconducts in the 1st period of his first 2 Bruins games, and was drastically underused for his skill level. I'm uber-pissed that his career got ended so quickly. I still wear my custom "Belanger 16" Bruins sweater more than my Bourque 77 one. Hate: Mike Ribeiro: that whole flounder incident in last year's playoffs; it's shit like that that's ruining the game ... well, would be ruining the game if there was a season to ruin Donald Brashear: my least favorite hockey player of all time, yes, even worse than Claude Lemeiux & Ulfie Samuelson. The whole McSorley thing was bad enough, but then to watch him chicken out of dropping the gloves with players that he dwarfed was an embarassment to the game. Kris Draper: that whole McCarty/Lemieux war should have been HIS battle but he instead sent his bigger buddy to go fight Claude ... why chickenshit out of fighting Lemieux?!?

Your favorite player that isn't a superstar

I die, just a little bit, on the inside everytime a hockey fan that I respect likes John Madden.

Your favorite player that isn't a superstar

NHL: Nick Boynton of the Bruins NBA: Cherokee Parks (is he even still in the league?); Jason "White Chocolate" Williams; or Christain Laettner. MLB: Tim Wakefield. Gabe Kapler was there, but he loses out because he's playing in Japan.

    Real World XVI, Austin

They had the language difference in the Paris season, and other than them having a hard time finding the house I really don't remember much happening as a result.

    WWE news

Major points for the Galileo reference, Lushus.

    Real World XVI, Austin

And I think the SxSW festival probably tied into their choice, too. I should know, but I'm not 100% certain: have they done anywhere in Canada? I'd think Montreal, Toronto or Vancouver would be nice cities for a season.

    Real World XVI, Austin

Lushus, he gets some recognition locally, but just because he lived one town over from where I live now, so I know people that know people that knew him and things like that ... but he's not like a local celebrity or anything. The only one that I hear good stories about is that fat kid that got pummeled by Abe on their Road Rules season ... my brother-in-law's a cop and assisted in an arrest that included that kid. He tried to pull the "you know who I am?" card, like he's a real celebrity. And I've he spent a while after the season cruising around Boston trying to get recognized and whatnot.

    Real World XVI, Austin

Has any city had more representation that Boston & the surrounding suburbs? There seems to be someone from here like every other season.

    LOST

Good points ... I guess the only one that knew what happened between Locke & Shannon that was in that scene was Kate, and she kind of had other shit on her mind at the moment. It just struck me because I had wondered - going into the episode - how they'd handle the whole shooting, and it wasn't really addressed at all. I'll be kind of bummed if it's not referenced at all in the Exodus episodes.

    Romero Not At Velocity Tapings..

With all the good to great talkers that they have as active or former wrestlers, how hard would it be to get a short-term replacement? I mean, is Michael Hayes still backstage? He'd be fine. Same with Angle. Or AA. It shouldn't be that hard.

    LOST

My only complaint about this week's episode ... After Sawyer spills the news that Kate was with the federal marshall, they show everyone else walk away, disgusted or what have you, including Shannon. Shannon FUCKING SHOT A MAN. ON THE ISLAND. Like 3 days before (I can't remember how many days are supposed to be between episodes). How come people have no issues with an attempted murderer but will hate Kate for the whole Marshall thing? When Jin attacked Michael over the watch, the cuffed him to the plane. But Shannon attempts to murder Locke and it's forgotten immediately?!? Other than that, good episode.

    I can't believe it.

It's threads like this one that remind me why I rarely venture in the wwe folder, and when I do go there, I try to limit which threads I read. What fucking fun is it purposely trolling/flaming on a fucking message board? Don't jagoffs like that have paint to huff or glue to sniff? Hadn't read that until I posted my comments, Sass ... very well could be. Banky hasn't done the outright annoying gimmick in a while, so he was due.

    Sports WTFs

Oh, I know, I purposely omitted TO and OTT from my list of possible end destinations ... it was really just down to the Oilers, Flames or Canucks in my mind, at least for Canadian teams. And I didn't know how much Roy was making at the time, if it would have automatically eliminated Edmonton or Calgary as a possibility. I just don't think it made sense to trade him to the team that used to be the Nordiques. Unless it was to rub it in the face of the Quebec fans that already lost their team; now the goalie that used to dominate their squad would be playing on it ... just in another city.

    Sports WTFs

I understand that the Habs had to trade Roy, but I agree, why trade him for next to nothing, especially to the former-Nordiques? There are so many other teams that they could have traded him to, gotten as good of a package and also had it come back to haunt them less. rb51, I know you're a Habs fan, so you might know: what was his salary like at the time? Could one of the other CDN teams have afforded him? I figure they had to send him to the Western Conf to avoid having to play him half a dozen times a year, but could Edmonton or Vancouver or Calgary have afforded him?

    Sports Misconceptions

I thought of this thread while watching "Stump the Schwab" on ESPN yesterday ... one of the contestants said that he was a "Golden boy" because he was born the day the US beat the Russians ... as if them beating USSR was for the medal. Then I realized that I was watching Stump the Schwab and quickly turned the channel before my neighbors heard it through the walls and mocked me for watching shit TV.

    Sports Misconceptions

Sorry, but with Yankees fans I start off at a "I don't like them" level and then let them either earn my liking or validate my dislike. And a lot of Yankees fans do the latter, give me every reason to find them annoying. Before I end up getting into a pissing match with anyone, though, that even though I'm a Boston-native I have to admit that a lot of die-hard Sox fans fit that same description: I dislike most die-hard Sox fans and have them either earn me changing my mind about them or validate my disliking them. Perfect example of what I feel Yankees fans are like: I was in Burlington, VT for work a few weeks ago. I was at the bar, having drinks after work, and they had 2 TVs. One was showing the Red Sox game, one was showing the Mets game, and a substantial # of people were watching one or the other. Second inning, a Yankees fan comes in and asks why his game isn't on. The bartender explained that it wasn't on the satellite package (for whatever reason) and plus people were watching the other two games. The guy proceeds to go on a LOUD tangent about "What the fuck's the point of having the satellite if you can't get every Yanks game" and blah blah blah. And he went on, and on, and one. I was tempted to lean over and inform him that people were already watching the two fucking games that were on, so he'd have been SOL even if his game wasn't blacked out. Having said all that, most Yankees fans that I interact with on TSM are fine by me.

    How does Nash as MVP

What Nash did was great for the entire sport. It takes away that "big man gotta win it" or "big time scorer got to win it" vibe the MVP trophy has had for a long time. But that's regardless of Nash's being a Canadian or not ... and the question was how it made people feel as a Canuck. If the question was about how Nash winning made you feel as a short person, then it'd make sense to say that it went against the big man routine. What I meant by Gretzky setting records was great for the sport was it gave a whole generation of fans a chance to see the greatest of all time play the game. Like seeing Jordan. Or seeing Ruth/Mays/Bonds/whomever you view the greatest baseball player as. Or Pele.

Kellen Winslow Jr's career potentially over

I thought it was a dumbass move for him to compare himself to a soldier while an actual war was going on ... like Lushus said, if it was before the whole "War in Iraq II" thing, it would have been fine. But it wasn't, and it was at a time when the news was dominated with stories about Americans dying. Anyone that had half a clue was treading lightly about using war analogies at the time. And I referred to him being a dumbass because a fair amount of the reports indicate that he'd been speeding/showboating on bikes throughout the day, and that's not a bright move unless you're experienced enough on a bike to fuck around that way.
  22. nl5xsk1

    How does Nash as MVP

I disagree every bit as much as Czech does ... what Nash did was great for Canadian basketball. What Gretzky did was great for the entire sport.

    Sports Misconceptions

Here is a misconception by itself. The Yankees actually had the best winning percentage in baseball in the 1980s. Which is one of the many reasons AngleSault drove me nuts when he referred to the 80's as the dark ages for the Yankees. It's because the Yankees didn't win many World Series in the 80s (the only one I can think of was in 1981 ... I'm sure an actual fan will correct me) and the Yankees fans only view winning it all as success. And as much as I hate the Yankees fans, I do have to say I admire that. Getting close shouldn't be enough. Unless you're a fan of a team that's historically an also-ran or a team that has no right to be winning games, just being good shouldn't be good enough.

    Any bands

I don't think I hate any band because of one single member ... it's not like if Lars quit Metallica I'd all of a sudden like them again. They'd have to completely re-invent their sound for me to like them again, and I would potentially like them again if they did so, with or without Lars.

    Natalie Portman....

Hmmm, tasty. I'm digging the bald Portman. But I've always kind of had a bald-chick fetish, so I guess it makes sense ....
