    Super Bowl XXXIX discussion thread

I want a dynasty that I don't hate. But at least I know if the Patriots are dominant I can ignore football and concentrate on things like, I dunno, school. What is it about the Patriots that you hate? Most of the people that I know that hate New England hate them because they're near dynasty status, and seemingly for no other reason than that. I kind of see their point, I always tended to hate most dynasties as well. This is the first time - in my adult life - that it's happened to a team that I root for, so I'm kind if digging how it feels.

    Real World/Road Rules Challenge

Well, I guess it's safe to say that either MTV has to stop doing battle of the sexes or completely change them so physical fitness and/or teamwork aren't necessary to win. The guys smoked the girls last night. You could tell by the way they edited it, they made everything ... super ... drawn ... out ... until the end of the puzzle, when they barely even showed the guys struggling. Damn, they were done with the entire puzzle before the girls even got to the 'town'.

I don't know where to post this so...

Wait ... was that supposed to be funny?

No need for apologies, no nerves were touched (at least none of mine were ... I'm sure there's other Pats fans that might have been more bothered). And, truthfully, you really can't tell who's serious and who's not online. Lastly, in both of our defenses, people are coming out of the woodwork to give their $0.02 on teams that they probably knew nothing about before 2 weeks ago. It's normally safe to presume that person on the other end of the message board is just talking shit.

    The OAO AFC CHAMPIONSHIP THREAD!!!

It contradicts my earlier statements, but I'm posting it anyways ... from TMQ's latest article:

But how many TDs has Bartrum had recently? Lewis was in the right place at the right time, I fully admit, but can you really think that McNabb wouldn't have loved to keep that train a rollin' and thus kept looking for Lewis near the end zone in the Super Bowl? And I don't know if my talking ass is one of the ones that you're referring to, but I've seen plenty of Eagles games. I go to the sports bar every Sunday to watch all of the games, and have a few good friends that are die-hard Eagles fans on top of that. Even when I don't want to watch the Eagles I tend to get bombarded by them. "the little Patriots that could" would have worked 3 years ago when they beat the Rams ... calling this year's Patriots team that is a farce, and makes me question how many of their games you saw this year. Lushus, if I still wasn't doing my NHL/signature boycott, that would be so sig-worthy for me

    Now this is funny.

I've also heard that the towel drop was a relatively late addition to the script, too. Just imagine how much less scrutiny this would have gotten if they used Madden and kept it less risque.

I can't believe that people - in this very thread - will downplay the loss of a TE that scored two touchdowns in the championship game. Yes, Philly still has a very good TE that will get a lot of looks and a bunch of catches, but he's not the one that McNabb looked to when in the end zone. Plus, it hurts Philly's ability to run the true 2 TE set that they've been running all year. And Philadelphia is going to riot whether the Eagles win OR lose.

    Surreal Life 4

I saw a the aftermath of a car crash while driving home from the gym yesterday ... it didn't look like anyone as hurt, just a few banged up cars. I literally stared at the cars while driving by (hard not to watch) and pretty much made the conscious decision to spend the time looking at it ... does that make a car crash entertaining? No. Something has to be, I don't know, entertaining to be classified as entertainment to me.
  10. Seeing as I do mostly highway driving, I think I'm using less gas than a more gas-effective car that does mostly city driving does, but it's just a guess. And, if damage to the roads is a concern, what about things like 10-wheelers & other heavy vans (e.g. U-Hauls)? Sorry to keep busting balls about this, but I really don't agree with most SUV bashing, so I get kind of defensive/protective.

    Music played in game breaks

Well, seeing as he's a convicted pedofile, I don't think it's my neck that he'd be nibbling or my genitals that he'd be groping.
  12. They, most likely, did something backstage or earlier that day to celebrate JR day in Oklahoma ... and JR & Hodge are likely friendly due to their homestate & career in wrestling, and thus Hodge might want to be there to celebrate with his friend. My guess is that they through him on camera as an afterthought more than brought him in just to embarrass him. Plus, he got a good pop for going after HHH ... that's got to feel good for an old man. And, HHH & Flair 'beating him up' gave them something to brag about that big Dave would disapprove of.

I'm actually going to be watching the game with a bunch of Eagles fans ... I think that there'll probably be about 5 or so of us that are die-hard Pats fans, and probably 3 or 4 die-hard Eagles fans. There'll be plenty of shit slinging that game.

    Top 100 Drummers

While I think he's a jackass as a person and a performer, I think that Fishman was robbed by being as low as 96. Trained in classic jazz but can play a variety of genres reasonably well - if not better than that. And, after the nauseating "what makes a drummer" debate, where was Avril?

Comments which don't warrant a thread.

Monster Magnet is the single-most underrated band out there.
  16. SUVs don't cause accidents, idiots driving them do. It's not so much more than regular cars to effect the plentiful supply, though, and I don't need strangers worrying about how much I spend to fill my tank once a week or so. I've had my Explorer for just shy of 5 years now, and have spent a total of $1000 to maintain it (breaks once, and lower ball joints once). Spending an average of $200/year is fine by me. Exagerrate much? The main dissatisaction that I've heard is that people expect their new SUVs to be miracle cars that can tread on ice like it's nothing ... so when they spin out they get all pissy (see point #1, above, for explanation on people being idiots causing accidents) How many cars DON'T??? nl5 ... proud SUV driver

So...what are YOU doing during the blizzard?

Count me as another that's pretty apathetic about ~The Blizzard of 2005~ ... we ended up getting just over 2 feet, maybe 30", but nothing worth flipping out about. I went out drinking with some friends on Saturday, and when I got home I got high and went for a walk in the snow. Yesterday, I dug my car out (fucking plow drivers blocked my car in ... literally just mine, my neighbors cars were 2 & 3 spots further over, they were fine. My car was pretty much surrounded by snow) and then went to a friend's house to watch the games. Total negative effect on my weekend: about 45 minutes worth of shoveling.

Wow, pressure the QB and stop the running game ... why haven't other coaches thought of that? /just busting your balls, no malicious intent behind the sarcasm. I think the Pats did a good job of showing that they're plenty prepared to stop a blitz-happy defense. How many times did people have to refer to the city that the Steelers play in as "Blitzburgh" before it stopped being funny or witty? (Answer: None. It wasn't funny or witty at any point.) I certainly, as a Pats fan, feared the Steelers blitz more than I do the Philly one.

The Eagles would have been underdogs to both the Colts & Steelers, too. The AFC just had the dominant teams this year, and it would take more than a few weeks to erase what happened throughout the entire season. And how can you say that the Eagles are better than the Colts? The Pats made the Colts look bad, so maybe people are forgetting the shitkicking the Colts put on the Broncos the week before. The Eagles being better than the Steelers would have depended on which Roethlisberger showed up: the poised one that played well for most of the year, or the potentially-injured one that stunk up the joint in the two postseason games.

    The OAO AFC CHAMPIONSHIP THREAD!!!

I agree with smh ... the Steelers needed to put points on the board there, even if it was just 3 rather than 7. Going for it and failing would have been the worst possible scenario. As TMQ says every week, kick early & go for it late.

    LOST

This man speaks the truth ... while Shannon's no Kate, she's definitely a piece of eye candy that keeps nl5 happy. And the bear wasn't THAT bad ... I mean, for a TV show that doesn't have a huge CGI budget, and probably pissed a bunch of what they did have on the plane crash & whatnot, it really wasn't a bad bear. Lucas would have done better, yes, but for what they needed to accomplish it worked for me. Lastly, I really dig your theories, Regina P. ... I hadn't noticed it was The Flash, and probably wouldn't have been able to put the name thing together. In the past, with the comic book stuff, I've leaned on my friend that's fluent in Spanish to help figure out if what they're saying means anything ... I haven't seen her since the last episode aired, so haven't been able to figure out what Walt was trying to say en espanol.
  24. And has become everything that he says he hates ... seriously, he used to dedicate half an article to mocking shit like this, and now he goes on there and wusses his way through stupid, not-funny comments.
