I'm the exact opposite of AoO ... I like it when an actor does such a good job of portraying a character that I forget that about the acting. It's one of the reasons that I like some questionable actors (e.g. Mickey Rourke) more than some "great" actors. And, back to the actual thread, actors that I think are better than Nicholson: Robert Duvall Morgan Freeman James Caan Gary Oldman Gene Hackman

It's probably because I'm biased, but I would have kept Abe (who I like as a 'character') and sent the Miz home. Mike just gets by on reputation, and isn't doing that well this season. The only positive that I see in sending Abe home is that it bothers Coral. She's such a twat, anything that hurts her makes me happy. Ayanna is indeed crazy. She's had mini-breakdowns each time she's been on MTV (the actual Semester at Sea and both challenges). Keeping her around is never a good idea. Good riddance. No, Alro ... I think we all find the Abe/Coral relationship a bit fucked up.

I don't think it can be a new character, because LOST - so far - has done a good job of foreshadowing or hinting at something. If they wanted to introduce a new character with this, they'd have shown something in the background to give us a hint about it. Unless, of course, they did do that & it was so subtle that I completely missed it. Locke makes the most sense, but how would he know where to find Sayid? He was one of the only ones that hadn't been informed what Kate, Sawyer, and Sayid were doing. It's not like the island is small enough that he could have just hunted them down so quickly ... right? Sawyer makes sense only because he knew where to find Sayid. But, like Evolution said, how did he light his rocket and then get to Sayid so quickly? He doesn't come across as a sprinter. Basically, I have no idea who it is, and that's one of the reasons that I like this show. It's given me reason, week in and week out, to want to watch the next episode. My guess, though, is the new character theory.

but their D is allowing 35+ points per game, and that fact can't be ignored. It's hard to choose a team that allows that many points as the best in the conference. The main reason the Steelers were able to blitz so effectively was because of the injuries the Pats had suffered. Take Dillon off the field, and it's pretty obvious that they're going to be passing, and passing, and passing some more. And then take the two starting tackles off the field and the protection becomes noticably worse. Other teams have tried to blitz the Pats, and normally haven't had too much success in doing so.

Sorry, but I have a hard time shedding too many tears for any of the players ... even the ones earning the league minimum are making like $185k. That's far from chump change, and is more than what 95% of the public earns.

The spoilers on spoilerfix.com make the next 3 weeks look AWESOME. This is literally the only show on TV right now that I immediately want to watch again as soon as an episode ends.

I didn't think the DX parody of NOD was overly offensive or stereotypical. The whole "Mizark" thing mocked a small subculture (those who said things like "for shizzle") more than the entire race. If they'd thrown all the brutal stereotypes out there it'd be one thing, but the little that they did wasn't too bad.

I don't know if the Pats will start kicking ass again too soon ... Law is out 4-6 weeks and Poole's not ready to come back yet. So, they're looking at Asante as one CB and Gay (an undrafted rookie who couldn't even start in college) as the other. Their other choice is to move Wilson back to CB and start either Reid or Gay at safety. It looks like the Pats will be in trouble against the Rams and their two burners at WR.

It sounds a lot like the problem that my family's PC is having ... is the webpage that springs up as the home page an IP address, rathar than a normal URL? Mine starts with an IP address that starts with 213.something.something.something. Everything sounds the same, including the pop-up and the inability to change it back (even after running HiJack).

Come on now, it's perfectly okay to mock blacks, Asians, the mentally ill, the handicapped, overweight people, Arabs, etc, but I don't think WWE would do anything like that. yeah, maybe your right...that would be going too far. There hasn't been an out-and-out Jewish character yet, but between the Hollycaust and the Final Solution, the WWE & WCW never shied away from offensive anti-semitic words or names.

Max, thanks for your help, but it didn't seem to work. The firewall installed fine, so they're safe moving forward. But I couldn't delete the items that had the sketchy IP address that came up when I ran the HiJack This. Whatever created them is named in a way that I can't ID it, and without removing that I can't remove the IP address that's now the home page. Thanks for all your help, though.

Question for you all ... my family's PC is a Windows 95 system (with no firewall) and my brother-in-law was online over the weekend, and he says that when he tried to download somthing a Trojan virus warning popped up. He did all the normal actions (stopped the download, deleted the virus things, etc) and then he ran Norton anti-virus (it came up with nothing). But the home page on the PC is now an IP address for some search-page-thing and a 'do you want to install something or other?' pop-up pops-up. He can't re-set the homepage, as it defaults back to this search page each time. Plus, the page launches on it's own if the PC is on. What could be causing this? The virus scan keeps coming up with nothing, so I don't think it's a virus, but I'm not the most knowledgeable with computers. My guess is that it's a dialer, but I really don't even know what a dialer is. Any advice on what can be done to fix their PC?

UTSU, methinks you dropped the 'ly' from the word 'only' in your post. And I had November 8 first ... it's like Manifest Destiny, and I claimed that land first. You can't come and squat on my land and then claim ownership.

While I do agree that it's offensive, I like the different angle that they're using on this gimmick. It's not "evil, American-hating foreigner version 985" but instead a guy that doesn't hate America but hates what Americans think of his people. It's still offensive, yes, but at least it's different. Points for creativity.

If the Pats weren't hit so hard by the injury bug, they'd have played much better against the Steelers ... maybe not good enough to win, but they wouldn't have gotten shelled like they did. It's hard to compete when you're playing without your two starting tackles, #2 (or arguably #1) WR, your starting RB, and your #1 DB (and arguably best defensive player). If the Steelers can play that well against Philly, and if NE has to go an extended stretch with so many key players out, than I change my vote to Pittsburgh. Until then, though, I'm sticking with the Pats.

Yeah, they're fighting for every player's job ... but if one of those players chooses to say that he disagrees with the union, he gets his wrist slapped. If the NHLPA really cared about each and every player, they'd recognize that a cap, while limiting the top end salary, would still allow a salary average of more than a million dollars per player. Every player making something is better than no one making anything.

The Countdown to Beltran with Yankees Topic
nl5xsk1 replied to Open the Muggy Gate's topic in Sports
I'm a little sick of hearing that. NY isn't nearly as bad as people make it out to be. We don't demand from a person what they can't deliver. AS, while I don't think NYC deserves the horrible rep it gets, there are certain cities where the expectations, demands, and level of profile are greater than others. New York, Boston, and Philly are harder cities to play in than Milwaukee, San Diego, and Colorado. The media is more omnipresent, the demands of the fans are greater, etc. A lot of players play well before and after their stints in NY or Boston, but play like shit while they play IN that city. -
OK, well when that guy gets here, let me know. Well, if it needs to be a top poster AND someone that is celebrating a birthday on November 8 ... look no further. Your top poster has been found /born on November 8

Wow, thanks again, Max ... I'm keeping my fingers crossed that one of these works, I hate the idea that their PC is vulnerable. I owe you one.

Great, thanks, Max ... I have to go by their house today after work anyways, so will see what I can do with the HiJack This. Hopefully it works, he feels like shit for screwing up my mother's computer. And, for whatever reason, my mother's dead-against getting behind a firewall. She says that she doesn't go online enough to justify spending the (minimal) money for one, and most of the free online ones don't work with Win95.

First of all, I hope that Gonchar is Ok ... the B's have lost too many players through free agency to lose one due to an injury like that. And to everyone that says "oh, he'll be fine by the time the season starts": why don't you ask Jason Allison or Adam Deadmarsh how long it takes to come back from a head injury? And I've heard rumblings that a lot of the younger, less affluent players are starting to grumble about this lockout. Most of the player reps are veterans that have enough money in the bank to live comfortably even if the league never, ever comes back. But if you're a young player or a fringe player that doesn't have a multi-million dollar contract, you're getting screwed by this. I can really see the NHLPA falling apart, and the union getting broken, by young players crossing the lines and playing if/when the owners decide to go that route.

I like the fact that people are using the fact that a movie scared them as a kid to justify that it's a scary movie. Scaring children is easy; it's when normal adults are afraid of a movie does it deserve to be called a scary movie. Thus, the Wizard of Oz should NOT be considered a scary movie.
