    Senior Year

My senior year was a good time. At my school you could sign your own tardy or absent notes as soon as you were 18, and I turned 18 during November of my senior year ... so I missed school A LOT. Spent most mornings getting high and then surfing, and then making it in just before the 11:00 am cut-off. (if you got there before 11 it was just a late day but if it was after 11 it counted as a fully missed day). Me and a friend had three free classes in a row the second semester so went to our friend Meghan's house to watch TV and get high, and then swim when it got later in the year. Like Max, I had more than enough credits going into my final year, so only had to pass the slacker classes to graduate (e.g. photo, drama, & art) and yet almost managed not to graduate on time. (I got kicked out of photography and had to basically beg, borrow and steal my way back into class in order to graduate.)

    Send Andrea $

If it was to send her to BU, BC, or some other local school I'd think about it. But not to send her to UCLA. /purposely didn't say "to Harvard" because Andrea doesn't really look like an Ivy Leaguer

    Boston.com Poll

Heather Thomas is getting screwed ... yeah, Locklear is fine and all, but Heather Thomas OWNS Locklear at that time in their careers.

The World Cup of Hockey Thread

I can understand why certain things take priority over hockey, because as little as we like to admit it we really are in the minority here in the States, and most Americans would prefer college football or MLB baseball to anything hockey related. But having said all that, why didn't ESPN show yesterday's European game? The baseball game that they wanted to show got hurricane'd out, so they could have easily re-directed a satellite and taken the TSN feed and piped that out instead of playing 3 hours of poker re-runs.

ESPN's Top 100 Moments of past 25 years

I can't figure out if I'm happier that this made it as #1 or more surprised that ESPN didn't find a way to fuck up this list by making something else #1. I definitely got goosebumps reading that article. It's amazing, if the Soviet coach doesn't pull Tretiak (Tretyak?) the whole game would have had a different feel. But pulling one of the game's great goalies gave the US such a lift.

    Sucks to be Amy

Actually, I simultaneously broke both my wrists playing peewee football and managed not to cry. Nor did I cry when I broke my arm in two places while skateboarding. Not crying over a broken arm isn't too tough.

    Fall shows

I've seen Social D a few times, and each show has been awesome. They're coming to Boston in October, so I'll be checking them out then. Plus, potentially the next night in Providence (I just like Lupo's too much to skip a show as kick-ass as Social D)

    Applebees sucks ass

JMTapes, you're a Methuen-ite?!? I'm back living in the area, and figured that I'd be the lone Merrimack Valley representative at TSM. And I agree, the Roadhouse is ALWAYS too crowded to deal with ... I haven't even bothered going there because every person I know that has been there bitches about how fucking crowded the place was. I'd rather not have to wait forever for my food or another beer.

    Fall shows

The only show that I know I'm going to is Monster Magnet in CT, but there are rumors online that Wyndorf 86'ed everyone else from the band and is canceling the tour.

    Top 5 Favorite Movie Characters

I couldn't pick 5, so I went with a top ten as well ... and this is in no order, it'd be way too tough to put them in a definitive order. Mike Damone from Fast Times @ Ridgemont High Leatherface (aka Bubba Sawyer, Jr.) from the original Tx Chainsaw Massacre Coach Harris from Revenge of the Nerds (easily John Goodman's best work) Agent Norman Stansfield from the Professional (Gary Oldman has to be somewhere on this list, and this is my favorite role for him) Mickey O'Neil from Snatch Henry Chinaski from Barfly Bud from Repo Man Bob McKenzie from Strange Brew Doug McKenzie from Strange Brew Reggie Dunlop from Slapshot

The World Cup of Hockey Thread

I feel like it's "nl5 eye for the TSM guy" saying this after admitting that I dug the Canadian sweaters, but I really liked the US ones a lot. ... there, now that the fashion part of my post is finished, I can talk about the actual game ... Man, the US team looks bad. Between the first period vs. Canada and the first period vs Russia, they've been outshot 35-10 combined. That leads me to believe that the coaching staff is dropping the ball. I know that a team would never change coaches mid-tourney, but Wilson has got to go. The laughable part is him saying that he's got "5 sets of fresh legs" to put in vs. the Slovaks. Hmm, the healthy scratches were: Halpern, Langenbrunner, Smolinski, Martin, & Klee ... which of those players is such an improvement over the players that we had in already?!? Plus, he's talking of putting DiPietro in instead of Esche ... sot he one player that has played really well won't be in the game. Great. I can just hope that the US beats the Slovaks, because having to go to Canada and play that powerhouse in the first elimination game would mean a really early end to the US' run. /Max, I agree ... as soon as I saw the hit I turned away. Losing Gonchar would be a huge blow to the Bruins, and would be the icing on the cake to an already horrendous off season.

50 Cent Booed Offstage At Reading

While he obviously existed before the Chappelle show, DC's parody of him is how most people know him. It's what made him popular (or at least known & hated) by the mainstream audience.

Who's not voting in this presidential election?

Voting for a president because he's "kinda cool" is what got Clinton elected ... and I was ashamed to have him leading my country. For all the crap that people give GW, I prefer him to the years under Clinton. If either candidate really presented a reason for me to vote for them, I would. But, it really seems like "the devil you know or the devil you dont" and if that's the case then I'll hold off, and not vote for someone that I'm not 100% behind. I can't hear someone talk about voting for a 3rd party candidate without thinking of that Simpsons episode where Kang & Kodos abduct Clinton & Dole, and when the human says that they'll vote for a 3rd party candidate they're told "Go ahead, throw your vote away".

The World Cup of Hockey Thread

Sorry I'm so late with my responses ... it sucks having to watch the games on tape instead of watching them live. - I dug the Canadian uniforms. It took some getting used to, but once I did I really liked them. If I had any faith that Thornton was going to be a Bruin for more than a year or so, I'd probably invest in a Thornton sweater. I also really liked them using "Canada" in lieu of their actual names. Although, like Max said, with so many players wearing random numbers it was kind of confusing to follow at times. (I also really liked that the Canadians that normally wear #19 chose not to in respect to Stevie Y. It's the small things like that that make me love hockey ... I really can't see a baseball player or basketball player doing the equivalent.) - Even though the Canadians have the deepest team, I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't win it all. Both Esche & Vokoun played very well, and once the elimination round starts all it'll take is a goalie standing on his head for 60 minutes and the better team could be sent packing. - Jeremy Roenick has got to go ... he wasn't as bad as Smith & the other guy that covered the Czech/Finland game, but he was painfully bad. I understand why they want him there, but I'd rather they just gone with Thorne & Clement with JR sitting in for a period rather than as a permanent 3rd member in the booth.

    Best of the Von Erichs

The actual wrestling will probably leave some to be desired (I remember WCCW being very punch/kick heavy) but the angles were always awesome and the crowd was always wicked into it. I was such a WCCW mark back in the day, it's embarressing to admit now. Hell, I even liked the One Man Gang back then. Plus, like res said (and I wicked agree with) if people support releases like this, we'll be more likely to see other, better releases in the future (Midnites-Fantastics, Rick Rude matches, Bruiser Brody matches, and - best case scenario - entire Cotton Bowl shows).

ESPN's Top 100 Moments of past 25 years

The main reason that the Flutie Hail Mary gets so much acclaim is the fact that it's what propeled him to the Heisman, and is basically what gave Flutie a chance at a pro career. He's famous because this one play, so it's historical significance is amazing. Plus, it caused greater ramifications to the season. The CU-Michigan one happened too early in the year, and propeled Kordell Stewart to the night manager job at McD's. Same with KY-LSU ... not enough historical significance to warrant inclusion in the top 100 moments list.

    Is Carmella a marked woman?

Let me first say that I'm ashamed that I actually have an opinion on this debacle. I can proudly say that I ultimately don't care who wins, but I'm having fun watching the train wreck as it happens. But having said all that, I can't believe you thought Maria should stay, AS. She was the one that I most wanted to see get eliminated, at least out of the last 5. So far, I've been pretty lucky in that the ones that I at least kind of care about are making the cut. /rooting for Joy.

    Applebees sucks ass

Out of the big name restaurant chains, I actually go to TGIFriday's the most ... but it's more do to proximity (it's fucking closer than the others) and the fact that there is always talent there to look at. The food is blah, but I tend to bastardize what's on the menu to fit my taste (chicken finger BLT, without the bacon & without the tomato, and replace the mayo with honey mustard). Chili's is Ok, I like their egg roll things but otherwise it's just crappy fake Tex-Mex food. I don't eat at Bennigans/T-Bones/Ruby Tuesday's/etc enough to have an opinion. But give me a mom-and-pop burrito place over any of the above, 7 days a week.

    Hard Drugs..

What have you done? Just about all the 'big names' except crystal meth. how often/how many times/do you still? I'll still party Columbian marching powder if it's good, clean stuff, and luckily it's a rarity that anyone has any worth doing. Maybe a handful of times a year, tops. what does the drug(s) feel like? Like a million tiny kitty-cats tickling your balls as you skeet skeet skeet all over the walls. (it actually depends on the drug, how good it is, how much you do, your environment, etc. etc. etc.) any bad effects from use? I thought that I crapped my pants while on mushrooms, but I don't count them as a hard drug. I got arrested while on mescaline, but ended up just getting PC'ed and spent the night in lockup.

The World Cup of Hockey Thread

Hey, I realized after the fact that I was kind of being a bitch when I asked for the spoiler tags ... it's not really that fair to you all to have to deal with spoilers just because my stupid job will force me to enjoy the games on tape delay. If you guys want to post normally, it's all good ... I'll just be more careful about what I read. Sadly, Max, you caught me pre-coffee this morning. I actually had to re-read your post and think "I don't remember seeing that last night." Too little sleep, yet again.

Who's not voting in this presidential election?

As of now, I'm not voting. I might change my mind if something worthwhile happens between now & November. But since I'm not overly political to begin with, and thus aren't 100% up-to-speed with the policies and whatnot, I feel like I could do more harm by casting my un-learned vote for an unworthy candidate than I could by not voting at all. I hope Bush wins, but that's more because I dislike Kerry more.
