    Why ESPN sucks

If they did a 'worst trades of the last 25 years' it'd definitely be high up on the list. But Lindros isn't quite bust-worthy enough to make the top 25 bust list. He's had a long (but injury-prone) career and has played well for most of it. He's certainly not the all-time great that he was hyped to be, but he hasn't been a complete bust. Alexander Daigle was a bigger bust than Lindros. One thing that ESPN is doing right is bringing back the 'legends' in the upcoming weeks. I'm actually looking forward to Sportscenter on Sunday (Kilborn was one of my favorite anchors) and I haven't looked forward to a Sportscenter since the Cup ended.

What are you listening to right now?

Mission of Burma -- 'That's When I Reach for my Revolver'
  3. I'd rather have Lewis disappear than TO. If I had a dollar for everytime I had to sit there and listen to an announcer verbally fellate Lewis, I could retire today. The man is very, very good, no doubt about it. But to compare him to LT or Singletary is a joke.

    The Regal-HHH segments

because Vince ruined the slow burn. Very good answer ... another perfect example of this is when Hardy returned to Raw, and they teased his reuniting with Lita for all of an hour. Or when HHH & Michaels reformed DX for about 2 hours. Vince doesn't seem to grasp that delaying the HHH-Eugene match, people will want to see it more. (or, in the other examples, if people have a few weeks to get comfortable with Lita/Hardy or a reunited DX they will be that much more angry with the ~swerve.) He's out of sight until SS, and then returns at the PPV to help Eugene get the win.

The One And Only "In My Pants" Thread!

    ... in his pants.
  6. Clemens allowed himself to fall terribly out of shape, and his pitching suffered as a result. So, the Red Sox brass thought that he was on the downside of his career and then let him leave. And then he gets back in great shape and pitches like he's 5-10 years younger. It's like having a girlfriend that stops dressing up or wearing make-up or caring about her appearance, so you break up with her. And then she starts dating your neighbor but is looking her best again, and seems to be going out of her way to look her very best. Even though it was you that ended it, it still pisses you off.

kkk NFL pick 'em contest Season Two signups

I'm one of the unpaid, but I'm still interested. I don't want to do PayPal, and thus I'm going to have to snail-mail him the money. I keep forgetting to write down kkk's address while at work, and am computer-less at my new apartment so can't TCB there. I'll write it down now, and get the $$$ out this week.
  8. Fucking A, Lushus, good call ... I'm wicked pissed that I forgot him. Turning down a contract that would have made him the highest paid tight end is a fucking joke. He's someone that can get injured ... but not in a game, I want it to happen randomly and BEFORE he signs his contract. Good luck in the real world, jackass.

    NHL Off-Season Thread...

Max, I don't think that the D will be too bad ... I'm thinking that they'll probably, once all is said & done, end up with Slegr and/or Delmore still wearing the spoked B. I can't see either of them getting too much attention on the free agent market, so could come back to the B's at less than they earned last year. And I think that the Bruins are counting on Girard coming back this year ... I was never a huge fan of his pre-injury, but it seems like he's shown more passion for the game now that he nearly lost his life, and could be a good 3,4,5 defenseman. If their top 6 defensemen were: Boynton, Delmore, Girard, Gonchar, McGillis & Slegr, I'd be content. Keep Moran as a healthy-scratch, and spot-starter, and that's not that bad of a unit. The forwards, on the other hand, is questionable. The fact that we might be looking at Robbie Z as a 2nd liner is sketchy ... the Bruins NEED to resign Muzz, and then another decent winger, in order to have 2 legitimate lines. PJ, Lapointe & Green are a good 3rd line, and as we've both noted they have enough 4th line players to cover that. My priorities list: 1) 2 legitimate scoring threats 2) veteran back-up goalie (willing to play 15-20 games, max, without complaining) 3) an actual enforcer that can protect the skilled players (I liked Doull and all, but we need a guy that can play more than 2 minutes and actually, you know, win a fight when needed)
  10. I believe too strongly in karma, so won't go as far as to say "I hope so-and-so has a career ending injury" but there are a ton of people that I wish would just retire and then disappear from the public eye ... A lot of my choices have already been mentioned (Sapp, Favre, Clemens, Kobe) but others include: The Manning family (including old man Archie) Giambi, but the parasite can stay Pedro Bonds

I figured out how Bret could come back one time

Ignoring the fact that Hart has a few years worth of ring-rust to shake off. And the fact that he got his clock cleaned by Goldberg's kick in the head. The man had a stroke. He's not going to wrestle again. And I don't see why anyone would want him to come out and basically do NOTHING in a tag match.

    The Regal-HHH segments

When the whole beatdown was happening, the only thing that I was thinking was hot smart the WWE would be to extend the HHH-Regal feud to Summerslam, and then have Eugene return to help his friend/mentor get the win against HHH. And that would be the beginning of the HHH-Eugene feud. Instead, they hotshot a one night beatdown and then announce the HHH-Eugene match in a pretty anti-climactic way. Why rush things? What's wrong with a slow-burn??

    Quick Question

They're actually playing 2 nights in Boston at the end of September, so I might actually go check them out as well ... pending your 'review' of the show. If it sounds worth going to, I'll probably check out one of the Boston shows, or maybe the Friday show at Lupo's in RI, just because how cool Lupo's is.

    NHL Off-Season Thread...

I was still wicked scared that the B's wouldn't sign him for this amount, until I read the words that I bolded. It sounds like they knew that they had to let Ralston, SOD, Knuble, etc. walk in order to have enough for Gonchar, Samsonov, & Thornton. And, hopefully, Muzz. My only question, though, is how much will the arbitrator give Thornton? And will it price him out of the Bruins neighborhood??

    Jeff Garcia Dating Carmella

Am I the only one that doesn't think that Mia Hamm is all that hot? Her body is smoking but she's got a very average face. 2GOLD, I'm with you ... Joy is far and away my favorite 'contender' and it sucks knowing that she's not going to win.

    NHL Off-Season Thread...

http://tsn.ca/nhl/news_story.asp?id=93456 Rick Nash signed with HC Davos, the same club that had picked up Thornton a few weeks back. Not a bad pair of NHLers to go after, put them on a line together and you're guaranteed a few points a game. (and, yes, this was mainly just to bump it back to page 1 ... too many stupid fucking threads keep popping up and sending this to page 2)

    WTF? Banky gone

Wait, so he asked to be banned so he could unleash some wacky hi-jinx on the board, and then when he was realized that it wouldn't work and thus be a really stupid he was just un-banned? What a pointless exercise.

    Quick Question

I personally haven't seen them but the live tracks that I've heard were really good, and the people that I know that have seen them have said good things. You've got little to lose by checking them out ... I'd say go and then let us know what you thought.

    Here's your blockbuster trade

I don't get how anyone can say that this is a horrible trade for the Sox ... they got something for a player that was going to leave at the end of the year, and if they'd held onto him through the postseason and then let him walk, they'd have gotten nothing. Yes, they got probably 65-cents-on-the-dollar for him, but 65 cents is still better than no cents. Plus, he'd become such a cancer to the team, it's addition via subtraction, so to speak. The person that Nose-mar had become, even before the ARod debacle, was summed up perfectly in an article in this morning's Globe: http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/reds..._for_him_to_go/ Not IF we lose, but as soon as we lose. Way to stay positive. Good riddance.

    Favorite Concerts

I'm going to limit it to one show per band; otherwise some bands might appear too many times ... My top 10, in no particular order: Phish, December 29, 1993, Portland, ME. -- Really clean liquid hits help this show be the Phish concert to make the list. That and the fact that they played really good versions of some of my favorite songs. Rollins Band & Keith Morris doing Black Flag songs, Boston -- Seeing Henry, and more-so Keith, playing the songs that I didn't think they'd ever play again was awesome. I'm even willing to overlook the Ramones encore. Ozric Tentacles, at the Paradise in Boston Widespread Panic, CSU Campus, fall of 1993 -- having a band that I really liked to see live play on my school's campus was amazing. Having really fresh mushrooms made it even more so. Social Distortion, Orpheum in Boston -- opened for the Ramones, played a more 'punk' set than when I'd seen them in the past, even though it was the "Between Heaven and Hell" tour. Monster Magnet/The Cult, at the Palladium in Worcester --- Even though Wyndorf had a bad leg, MM still played an awesome show (even though they didn't play long enough, what with being an opener and all). The Cult was much better, and much louder, than I'd have expected. Sam Black Church/Slapshot/Bad Brains at the Channel in Boston -- even though it was Chuck-era Bad Brains, and not HR, it was still an awesome show. The show must have been 4-5 hours even though it was just those 3 bands, and the Channel was packed. It was in December, so they'd open the doors between bands and the heat of the people and the freezing cold air gave the place a wicked electric feel. The Exploited at the Channel -- Sometime in 1991, if my memory serves. A band that I'd thought I'd never get to see finally comes to Boston, and puts on an amazing show. After years of Choke (of Slapshot) calling out Wattie and mocking punk rock, it was inevitable that there'd be trouble and there was, with fights breaking out between the skins and the punks throughout the show. Just an amazing experience. Earth Day show at UMASS with Beastie Boys, MMBosstones, Fishbone, Phish, and others. Danzig at Lupo's --- this was the tour that he did a set of Samhain songs and then a set of Danzig tunes. Plus, any show at Lupo's is a trip, with the weird-ass way they set up the stage.

    NHL Off-Season Thread...

Yeah, because Ian Moran sure lit the lamp from the blueline. Same with Ms. Gill, she's good for 3 or so a year. And don't get me started on Donny Sweeney. ... "but those are defensemen," you say. ... To which I reply: Mike Sullivan scored about 5 his one season as a B. Or Kevin Stevens, who averaged 30+ with the Penguins, and then scored TEN as a Bruin (I think, I might be a little off). Off the top of my head, the best recent local scorer was McEachern, who scored 20-something. (although I must be missing someone ... any help here?)

It's funny, I can count on 1 hand the amount of posters that I've actually 'argued' with on this board. Ghettoman & Nelly's Bandaid are two of the 3 or 4. I should have suspected something, I guess. /maybe funny wasn't the right word. //doesn't pay enough attention to PBP to notice a trend

    NO!

In a stadium with a capacity of less than 33,000. That's still roughly 90% capacity. Tell me that there aren't a dozen teams that wouldn't kill for 90% capacity on a semi-regular basis.
