    NHL Off-Season Thread...

I'd rather have the Jim Carey (Pet Detective) in net for the B's than Jim Carey (Net Detective). Although, I find the 'comedian' is as bad at being funny as the 'goaltender' is at making saves. The B's should offer Potvin a contract and give him the chance to come back. If he looks around the league and finds a better place, all the power to him. He was very professional about being named the back-up, and I'd wish him well if he left. Having said that, though, he'd be my top choice to play in Boston as a back-up. If he does leave, though, how about someone like Osgood? He'd probably want too much money for the B's, but I'd have no issues with him in net for 20 games or so this season. If there's a season.

    I think I died......

How so many people like Woody Paige is unfathomable to me. He'd be the worst guy on TV ... ... if Stephen A. Smith didn't exist. He seemingly only knows about basketball, but grandstands as a know-it-all on all sports. Plus, his need to make everything "!~OMG Racism~!" is tiresome. Skip's not bombastic enough to qualify for the 'worst guy on TV' award. But he's frigging awful, too.

    Musical Talant Doesn't Matter

I disagree, it'll do well for the first few weeks because people have been hearing about this record for years now. People will want to check it out purely on the curiousity level. If the music is good enough, people who aren't willing to try it just on face value will start to pick it up and it'll be a success off of that. If the music is iffy, then it'll have a strong first few weeks and then drop down the billboard charts quickly.

    Kamala Returning to WWE?

You're forgetting one of wrestling's unwritten rules: if there are two black men in the same fed at the same time, they will either feud and then team up, or team up and then feud. Kamala vs. Benjamin at WM.
  5. Becca rules at teh intraweb. /not a flame for her or against her ... I really think that's a fucking funny insult. 2 thumbs up!

    NHL Off-Season Thread...

Max, what do you think they should do about the back-up role? I keep hearing that Potvin's gone and they'll trust that either Thomas or Toivonen can be counted on to be the full-time back-up. I'm not overly psyched about the idea of having an unproven net-minder backing up a second year player (even though Razor isn't a true 2nd year guy). I like the idea of them having an experienced guy backing him up to help him when he slumps or what-have-you. Also, do you think they should trade either Thomas or Toivonen as part of a package and try to get some players that can help them win now?

    NHL Off-Season Thread...

Agreed, I'd take Muzz over Allison any day of the week. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem like MOC is making any effort to get Murray signed. If given the choice of keeping Murray or losing him and get Allison back, I'll take the former. But if (when?) Murray is gone, I'd be willing to take a look at Allison (depending on his health) as someone to help fill the void that this off-season's exodus has left.

    NHL Off-Season Thread...

http://tsn.ca/nhl/news_story.asp?ID=92394 Jason Allison is stepping up his workouts, and might be able to put the post-concussion & whiplash problems behind him. If he can come back at 100%, and doesn't ask for a ton of money, I'd love to see him back in Boston. I was pissed that he was traded (although it did bring Muzz back to Boston) and think that he could help take some of the sting of losing Ralston, Knuble & potentially Murray. Edit: I have to admit that this is really just a bump to keep the hockey thread from falling off the first page. It was the very last thread on page 1 when I posted this.

Best of the Von Erichs DVD

There's a ton that should have been on that DVD that isn't ... Gordy slamming the cage onto Kerry's face, triggering that war. the hair-vs-hair match vs. Adams/Hernandez. Iceman's heel turn, and the aftermath the 6-man strap match vs. the Freebirds

    Red Sox-Yankees Series

Skipping over the ARod/Varitek part (which has already been beaten into the ground sufficiently) does anyone know what Kapler was doing in the scrum to cause Sturtz to pull him out by his neck? Or was it just an arbitrary thing? Personally, I wish Nixon & Ortiz had stayed out of it, Kapler vs. Sturtz would be a pretty good match-up, and it seemed that both guys wanted to really go. No, hockey players are the best fighters. Baseball 'fights' that involve any real punches (such as yesterday's) are the exception to the rule.

    Wicked good Black Flag Article

http://www.jaybabcock.com/blackflag.html It's too long to C&P the entire thing, but if anyone wants to read about the beginning of Black Flag (covering everything up to the Damaged album) then it's worth reading. It's funny to compare what the punks of that era went through (police harassment and whatnot) to what the Hot Topix kids have to go through today. /wishes being a punk still meant something.

    Super Bowl XL

AoO, I agree that it's inevitable that the amazing Patriots run will end at some point (be it this year or a year-or-so away). But to say that they're do for an injury is ludicrous; they were decimated with injuries last year, particularly at LB & WR. They lost Colvin for the season and Johnson for half of it, they played games where their starting WRs were 3 & 4 on the original depth chart, Law played weeks on a bad ankle, etc. If you mean an injury to a player like Brady, then yes. But no other player on the team could go down and really cause that much 'damage' to the success of the team. And I stand by my "Peyton Manning loses big games" statement. Look at Tennessee (the Vols, not the Titans): after having the media fellate Manning for his whole college career, he's replaced by Tee Martin and then they immediately defeat Florida and then win a national championship.

    Break it down!

Well evidently she didn't love him. Most people who are in love with somebody support their bussiness decisions so long as they aren't illegal or hurting anybody else. Its this or TNA. Right now he can make more money in the WWE. Quite selfish of her and bitchy to break up with him because of that and his long continued friendship with a man she isn't even involved with anymore. I can't believe I'm about to defend Chynna, but here goes nothing ... ... I actually kind of agree with her here. If me & the company I worked for left on bad terms, with lawsuits and the whole 9 yards, and then my girlfriend decided to go work for them, I might be kind of pissed off. It'd almost feel like a lack of support, for me in my 'war' with them. I will agree with you that if I really loved my girlfriend, though, that I'd probably understand that it was just for the money and nothing personal.

    Super Bowl XL

AoO, you're not saying that the COLTS will beat the Pats, are you?!? If you're saying that another team will beat NE, and then the Colts will beat that team, maybe. But not the Colts over the Patriots. Plus, even if Indy gets there, Manning wouldn't be able to lead them to a SB win. It's a big game, and we all know how well he does in those. My prediction: New England over Philly. Yes, I'm biased because I'm from Boston, but a team that was decimated with injuries yet still ran off the second longest winning streak in league history actually got stronger in the offseason.

    Why ESPN sucks

I hate when they use an active player for the "Fact or Fiction" thing, and the questions are always about his own team. Like a guy from Philly is going to say "Fiction" when asked if Andy Reid is the best coach in his division, or the guy from Tampa is going to say "Fact" when asked if the Bucs are going to regret losing Sapp. Common sense says that the player is going to give the corporate answer and thus it's pointless to have them included in an already pretty damn pointless bit.

    Moslon and Coors to merge?

Coors is piss-water, and tends to give me the shits the next day. I'd rather drink nothing than drink it. Thus, my visits to Canada will now be Labatt's-centric, rather than Molson-centric. Even though it will (hopefully) still taste like good ol' Molson, I'd rather not support a company that I hate such as Coors. /drinks MGD & High Life more than any other beer. //drinks Jack or vodka more than beer

    The Pictures in People's .sigs

Agreed ... I spend far too much of my work day at TSM. The sigs made the fact that I was slacking on a message board far too blatant. Even the stupid smiley things on the side while posting a message suck too much ass for my liking.

    Chyna on Howard Stern

I so wish I wasn't at work, I'm dying to go to that tranny link and see who the other judges are. If they're scraping the bottom of the barrel to get a 'celebrity' like Chynna, imagine the other talents that sign on to judge a thing like that.

    NHL Off-Season Thread...

http://tsn.ca/nhl/news_story.asp?ID=91863 Max, what could be better news than this: Big Hal Gill has resigned with the B's! Hopefully he'll use the money to buy a backbone so he can start to play like a man. But I really doubt that. At least it's only a 1 year deal. Sammy resigned, too, but I'm too lazy to go back to tsn and C&P that link, too.

Christopher Nowinski article for The Union Leader

What solution should he propose? Ban tackle football and make flag football the norm? Create new, more protective helmets? Set a minimum age of 16 before players can play football?

    NHL Off-Season Thread...

How about Mike Vernon? Or Arturs Irbe. Osgood gets minimal glory because of his penchant for letting in goals on shots from the red line, or from the far blue line. Cloutier gets minimal glory because of his inability to win big games when it really matters. The two of them could play in old-time goalie masks (e.g. the Cheevers/Jason Voorhees style) or some new, as-yet-unseen new-school mask and it wouldn't make a lick of difference.
