Bill Cosby lays the smack down

I always felt the "the government sends crack into the ghetto to keep blacks down" conspiracy carried as much weight as "the government created AIDS to kill blacks and gays". Neither makes any sense, and yet there seems to be those that continue to argue both points. Let's say the government DID send crack into the ghetto to get poor people hooked on it; how did they start? Was there an undercover agent posing as a dealer? Was a dealer in on the conspiracy? How'd they know what would happen once the drug was introduced to the ghetto? Too many questions that can't be answered.

    NHL Off-Season Thread...

Granato had a very good regular season record, but his team fell apart in the last 20 games of this season and it cost them big-time. They went from being a top seed, with home ice advantage, to a 4 seed (I think it was 4, maybe it was 5, though) and thus had to be on the road for the second round. Even Lacroix should admit that hiring a guy with only 31 games coaching experience (and all those as an assistant) was not the best move. Olympic Slam, you act as if there aren't any shades of grey, like either a guy is freshly retired or he's been around for one hundred years. John Tortorella spent time coaching in the minors, then assisting in the NHL, before he got the nod as a coach. Oh yeah, and won a Cup and a Jack Adams Award. Bobby Francis, another Jack Adams winner, was an assistant for a few years before getting hired as a head coach. It's the normal progression, a player retires, spends time coaching in the minors or assisting in the NHL to learn the ropes a little better, and then gets promoted to the top job. Granato will most likely get another chance to be a head coach, but really was pushed to the moon too fast.

    The Debate begins again or...

I'm not implying that AS is guilty of this, but I love hearing/reading all the Yankees fans who just one season ago were ranting and raving about how Clemens should go to the Hall as a Yankee are now saying "well, it makes sense that he goes in as a Red Sox player". Hey, he fucked over Boston first, just because he 'lied' to the Yankees shouldn't erasee all the reasons that people used to list on why he should go into the Hall as a NYY.

    House Shows

The NWA used to start almost every saturday night's telecast with a clip of something that either happened off TV or at a house show. I used to get so pissed off when I missed the start of World Championship Wrestling (the show, not the promotion) because it was almost always something that was cool to see happen. And I think that house shows are key because they give 2 wrestlers time to work together off-camera, which can only lead to better matches on TV or at a PPV.

The only thing that Granato did wrong was lose in the playoffs. Even with the injuries that they had during the season, the Avs were deep enough talent-wise that a coach should have been able to take them deeper in the post-season. It evidently was a scenario where the ownership & Lacroix thought that a coach should have been a difference maker and beaten SJ in the playoffs. Personally, I think hiring him in the first place was a bad idea; to go from Crawford & Hartley to Granato is a major step down in coaching level.

Was that actually ever rumored, or was it just fantasy booking by people on this board?

    NHL Off-Season Thread...

Thornton wants out of Boston?!? http://www.boston.com/sports/hockey/bruins...odonnells_gone/ Ok, so the Bruins lost Knuble - he was only one part of the top line, and could be replaceable with Samsonov or Bergeron or Nylander. And they lost SOD - they were pretty deep at D anyways, and should be able to plug in a younger, faster player in his place. And it seems like Murray is going, most likely to Detroit - now we're talking about replacing 2/3 of the top line, and a guy that's averaging over 35 goals a year for the past 3 seasons. But if this is true, and Thornton wants out of town, I'm officially done with this team. I put up with trading Bourque. I put up with repeated first round playoff losses. I put up with the Steve Kaspar era, Jacobs' stinginess and Sinden's ineptitude. But don't go and lose the franchise player, a player that's often mentioned as part of the next wave of young superstars. I swear, no lie and no exaggeration, if Thornton goes I'm officially done with the Bruins. I'll find another team to root for, and the fucking local team will never get a penny from me again.

    Danzig gets knocked out

Didn't one of the guys from Def Leppard beat Danzig up, too? And the funniest thing about it is Glen went on a tangent about being a master of "3 or 4 deadly martial arts". Now, maybe it's just me, but if I was the master of multiple martial arts, I'd know how many it was; not this vague three or four crap.

    Most Unfunny Mainstream Comedians

Least favorites: Ben Stiller ... hasn't been funny in 10 years, plays the same character in every movie and never makes me laugh. How this guy is treated like a comedic god is beyond me. Jim Carey ... just doesn't make me laugh. I literally can't sit through one of his movies, I watch about 15 minutes and then just can't stand anymore. Ray Ramano/George Lopez/etc. etc. ... any stand-up that gets their own show now. It just seems that the networks are hoping for another Roseanne/Seinfeld type of break-out comedy hit, and thus each series just runs together to the point that I don't watch any of them. And, strummer, I have to disagree with you on Reno911 ... the show cracks me up virtually every episode. Yes, some of the jokes bomb, and they've already deviated from the straight-up parody of COPS routine (by showing more 'behind the scenes' moments rather than just all-COPS all-the-time). But it just, for whatever reason, makes me laugh my ass off.

    Mikey Whipwreck: Heel

I don't think that WCW was stupid for making Mikey a heel, they just did it in an assbackwards way. If they could have found a way for him to keep his crazy-heel persona from ECW, it would have been fine.
  13. I think it stands for Independent Film Channel, but I'm not 100% sure. NoCal, how edited was the movie? I've seen the unedited version enough times to not bother with an airing if it's going to be edited to hell.

Olympic Slam, did you limit your choices to one per team? I ask because you reference Kovalev as a player you'd go after, even though you don't mention Glen Murray. Murray's had 37, 41, and 32 goals the last 3 years, and Kovalev hasn't broken 30 since the 2001-02 season. If given the choice of Murray or Kovalev, give me Murray 7 days a week. Hell, even Knuble has broken 30 goals more recently than Kovalev. And I agree with Max, Shields isn't a bad goalie. I'd even consider Brathwaite a legitimate #2 goalie, with the ability to play 20-30 games a year and win many of them.

    Craigs List

I go to craigslist all the time, but rarely to do I actually think of buying anything. I'm really just a fan of the rants & raves section (fucking hilarious stuff can be found in that section) and while I'm there I'll peruse the stuff that people have for sale. I actually used craigslist while trying to find a place to live, though, so I guess I do more than just surf the rants.

    NHL Off-Season Thread...

http://tsn.ca/nhl/news_story.asp?id=89575 Good call on qualifying those that they did (except Gill, I'd lose no sleep if he left the Bruins) but they better be able to resign Delmore & Grosek. When he's healthy, Grosek is a reasonable 4th liner, plays with grit and tenacity and is able to score the occasional goal. Delmore could be a good 4-6 defenseman, but not at the money he was getting. Hopefully he comes back at a reduced rate. Lastly, how pitiful will the Bruins be if they lose Ralston, Knuble AND Murray? I figure Murray's definitely gone (most likely to LA) but the B's should really try to keep Knuble & Ralston in the spoked B.

  18. If I remember correctly - and I might be completely wrong - they showed quick clips of wrestlers saying "he's coming" and that's it. I remember it as if they would show a close-up of the wrestler, from the chest up, and then the image would revolve onto and off of the screen as they said it. And I think it was both heels and faces saying it, so it wasn't really clear who it was, and if they were good or bad. And as a name, Sid Vicious > Sid Justice

    DMX arrested in New York

My presumption is that the rappers caused enough problems to warrant a task force ... police normally don't assign cops to watch a group that they don't anticipate problems from. The disease precedes the cure. And try telling Andy Dick, Robert Downey, etc. that white guys don't get busted when they break the law.

    Red Sox-Yankees Series

Hey, there's only 90 games left in this season! This series means so much, and has such postseason implications. /wake me in September when the games actually mean something. Either team could get swept this week and still win the division by 10 games.

    Brock Lesnar ESPN.com article

What, you mean to tell me that all projected practice squad guys don't get regular articles about them on espn? It's funny that they'll blow all this smoke up his ass while simultaneously admitting that he's probably 2 years away from making any impact in the league.

    DMX arrested in New York

Wait ... are you saying that the police would let any white guy get away with stealing a car, or just famous white guys? Because I wouldn't mind picking up a new ride each morning to drive to work. Why bother paying gas & whatnot if I can just steal a new car each morning?

    Marney: RIP

Dids, I have no issues with the mods deleting people and whatnot. If someone deserves to get banned - even if it is just for overall stupidity - then it's cool with me to have them banned. But if Marney leaving is the beginning of a trend & other 'established' posters leave (rather than this just being an isolated incident) then I think it'll suck, and the board will suffer as a result. And I stand by my statement that Banky takes his interneting a bit too seriously.
