    Impact! Spoilers?

Seeing that Raven is an "established" name, and AJ is only known to ROH and TNA marks, I see Raven having more "Star" power than AJ. Raven has held the ECW Title, the US Title, the Hardcore Title, and so forth. He has an established fanbase that is potentially bigger than AJ Styles. AJ Styles has been wrestling for a few years, and has barely had the exposure that Raven has. Although I don't think Raven-Sabu will do anything for me now. 7 years ago, that's a different story. I still think that if someone's enough of a wrestling fan to know what ECW was, let alone know Raven's role was in it, than they're most likely enough of a fan to watch the show regardless of his presence or not. (And wasn't his US title reign like a day long? Overnight reigns aren't really the things that stars are known for.) Yes, he's a bigger 'star' than Styles, but I'd be very hesitant to say that Raven is enough of a start to make or break a barely-fan tune in.

    NHL Award Nominees Been Announced

If the voting included postseason play, Kipper would have won the Vezina with ease. But I really think that he missed too much time in the regular season to get the nod. Luongo set records for shots faced and for saves made. If anyone deserved it this year it was him.

    Impact! Spoilers?

Benno beat me to it, but I'm going to say it anyways ... how is Raven enough of a 'star' to draw in casual viewers? If you know who Raven is, you know enough about wrestling to want to watch the show. Would it be his work as a jobber on Heat that would bring fans in? Or his occasional appearance as a face in the crowed during backstage vignettes on Raw?

One thing I admire about America....

I don't think it was the first time that they were invited, it was the first time that they accepted.

    NHL Award Nominees Been Announced

One day too late, but a bump none-the-less ... Looking back, I got 3 right and 4 wrong, although one of the ones that I got wrong I actually said the eventual winner should have won but wouldn't, so I'm going to give myself half-credit. All in all, though, a great show to watch, as always.

    Punk Essentals?

First off, big thumbs up to Coffin Surfer for mentioning Flipper & Fear ... talk about 2 bands that get no love ANYWHERE. I might suggest Liveage instead of Somery, though, because I always thought that the Descendents best stuff was on stage. Other recommendations: Circle Jerks: Group Sex/Wild In the Streets ... originally two releases that were bundled together when they were released on CD. SubHumAns: Either World's Apart or From the Cradle to the Grave. G.B.H.: Either City Baby Attacked by Rats or City Baby's Revenge. The Exploited: Let's Start a War (Said Maggie One Day) The Dischord Box Set: Especially the first disc, which has all the earliest stuff like the Teen Idles (Ian & Jeff from Minor Threat when they were still in high school). Operation Ivy: Energy

    London calling.

When I was overseas, I found that I enjoyed some of the smaller towns more than London itself (Windsor is where I was stayng, so spent most of my time there, but also went to places like Reading and Stratford a few times.) London was Ok, too, I guess, but it wasn't the best place to visit IMHO. Do you know the old saying "it's a nice place to visit but I wouldn't want to live there"? I felt the exact opposite of that for London: it'd be a nice place to live, but I wasn't stoked with visiting there.

    "It's a Black man's game"

Please don't be mad kkk ... neither of us mean it, we're just saying it because it's easier than arguing all fucking afternoon. You know how lazy us blacks and Irish are.

    "It's a Black man's game"

A little kid once asked me if it was ok for black message-boarders and white message-boarders to love each other ...

    "It's a Black man's game"

Hasidic Jews trying to emulate the "black" look or culture? None. European dudes trying to do it? Actually, quite a few. (I spent a few months in the UK and Europe last year and saw my share of people emulating that look, especially in the city of London.) Lushus, I'm truly not trying to start a pissing match with you, and completely understand where you're coming from. And this will probably be my last post on the subject, but you have to understand where I'm coming from: on a message board we're all just reading what another person is writing, and because of that, you do sometimes have to be more specific. A vague statement like a white guy will never know what it's like to be hated just because the color of his skin is just not true, and I felt like I had to make that point. Trust me, I agree whole-heartedly that suburban people of ANY race trying to be 'gangsta' is a joke, and that they have no idea of what it's like to be from a sketchy environment. Truce?

    "It's a Black man's game"

Well, no, I'm not being 'silly' or a 'jackass' ... I pointed out a pretty blatant error in what you said (when you said the very vague and ambiguous "white guy") and then you asked when you said it, so I told you. Sorry if it seems petty, and even more sorry that I couldn't read your mind. When I hear "white guy", I presume the speaker means "white guy", not "white-guy American with blonde/blue/middle-class". If you meant that, you should have said that. And don't change for me, Lushus. Stay vague, this will allow you to change what you said to squirm your way out of things when people rationally point out a flaw in your argument. And I truly have no idea what I said to provoke that last paragraph ... I didn't care that you only said "skin was dark". I cared that you said no white man has ever experienced prejudice, when in fact it's not true.

    Victoria's Outfit: Classic?

Am I the only one that thinks that referring to any thread on a message board as being a 'classic' is kind of a joke? If I had a dollar for everytime I said to myself, "man, that thread was such a great time ... I should go re-read it and relive the magic" I'd have less than one dollar. Just my two cents, though.

    Hockey Hall of Fame Inductees

None of the inductees was a surprise. Murphy was the most questionable, but even his numbers are HHOF-worthy. And I think that Dino is fucked, too many great players are on their way into the Hall, it'll be tough for him to get the necessary votes. If it doesn't happen in the next 2 years, it'll most likely not happen. And how come no one else is complaining about McSorley not getting the nod? Come on, the man's a legend. Marty-balls for the Hall!

    "It's a Black man's game"

At what point did you imply that only blacks have experienced prejudice, based purely on the color of their skin? When you said the following: Sure seems like you're saying that no white person has experienced it. You can revise your comment and say that you were referring only to "Joe Blow upper-class America blonde-haired blue-eyed white boy" but it's not what you said.

ESPN's Top 100 Moments of past 25 years

I'd always heard that Jordan retired because it'd been found out that he was a big gambler, and had bet on basketball (or something similar) and thus the league was going to have to punish/reprimand him, or look like hypocrites. And since MJ was the golden child, and it'd look bad for their poster boy to be carousing with criminals, the league allowed him to retire rather than face the consequences. Once the heat blew over, he was able to come back to the league without a problem.

    "It's a Black man's game"

ditto on a sidenote: i must say that white guys that act black, though annoying to almost everyone, REALLY annoy me...a white guy will NEVER know what it's like to be black, he can listen to all the rap he wants, he can dress however he wants, he can talk however he wants, but he will never know the feeling of walking into a place and being hated simply because his skin is dark... sorry for the rant *gets off the soapbox* What if he's Jewish and walks into an predominantly-Arab location? (or a predominantly-black one, for that matter). I mean, Jews have been persecuted for centuries ... but I guess there's not a huge number of people listening to hardcore Jewish music and emulating the way they speak and dress and whatnot, so your soapbox tangent is still accurate. But, still, to imply that blacks are the only ones to experience prejudice is far from accurate.

    "It's a Black man's game"

"White people love Ken Griffey, Jr. because he makes Bryant Gumbel look like Malcolm X.” - big apologies to Chappelle & Negrodamus
  20. The laws serve their purpose ... it prevents public, pro-Nationalist demonstrations and the like, and gives the police an excuse to round up extremists. Arrest them enough times for small things, and then when they commit a big crime you have them as repeat offenders and you can throw them in jail for longer (comparable to the 3 strikes laws in the US)

    "It's a Black man's game"

It is funny, though, normally it's white people complaining that "if a white guy said that, he'd be in a shitload of trouble" (after a minority says something that's potentially controversial). But this time, it's a white guy saying it and there are people saying "if Rasheed Wallace said ...". The grass isn't always greener. And I do think that a lot of white America is put off by how 'urban' and international the game's become. To a lot of people, especially older generations, young kids in corn-rows and tatoos, or foreign born players, aren't the players that they grew up watching, and it turns them off. I wish that wasn't the case, but I really think it's true.

    Last Comic Standing 2!

Dat Phan just never made me laugh ... it was hard watching his bits, so when he won, it really left me with a sour taste in my mouth. So, I watched parts of last night's episode, but doubt that I'll watch too much of this season. (especially if Norton gets eliminated ... his "I have the sex appeal of Leukemia" was the funniest thing I heard all night.)

The 2004 Stanley Cup Playoffs thread

Well, none ARE going there, but there are a few that could (and potentially should). Phoenix would look awfully nice back in Winnipeg. Maybe send Carolina Quebec City. And I'm sure that another team could be supported in Ontario; while I know the Leafs would never allow it, I'm pretty sure that Toronto could support two teams. Maybe put the Penguins up there. And then fold some of the sunbelt teams, and in a few years fold some of these new teams, and then things are normal again.

    HomeStarRunner

Does anyone know how the easter eggs work for H*R? I know that you can find them at the end scene (sometimes) but have heard people talking about finding them mid-episode. Are they full of shit, or am I just not smart enough to figure it out?
