No, I fully understand why he'd say that the Cowboys or Yankees were "America's Team" ... what I don't understand is why he'd throw in an uneccessary pot-shot on the Lightning for winning. Did he make jokes about the Devils last year? Or the Avs/Wings/Stars/etc. before that? It's an un-needed pot-shot at a sport that he barely covers anymore. Fuck him and the horse he rode in on.

Or is that all a ~SWERVE~! and you really are part of an angle.

How about the move that the Andersons used to do when they chicken-winged the guy's arm behind his back before body slamming him? With all the new 'submission based' emphasis, it'd be an easy way to work the arm without much effort. Plus, it looked really cool.

I'm wondering which person on his staff told the cocksucker which team won the cup ... because you know that he only talks about hockey during things like Bertuzzi-Gate. And, if he's going to nominate the Lightning because they won the Cup, shouldn't he have used the Patriots and Marlins instead of the Cowboys and Yankees? Or would consistency be too much to ask of him?

It's obvious that Parcells statement was more thought-out and premeditated. Shockey was just being a loudmouth and whatever came out of his mouth came out. Parcells knew in advance that what he said might be considered offensive, took the time to say "no offense meant" and still said it. He had ample time to use a different expression ... would have calling them 'sneak plays' been so difficult?!?

I remember there being a scandal here in Massachusetts, at Harvard, where a southern student had hung the confederate flag so that it was visible through their window ... all it took was one person to complain about how racist it was, and how much it bothered them, and next thing you know the flag was demanded to be brought down. Of course Harvard is in the People's Republic of Cambridge, so normal US laws don't apply.

6 Canadian teams to...how many American teams? It's about pride. But we Americans don't necessarily love the idea of their being teams in Florida, Carolina, Arizona, Texas or California, either ... trust me, I'd rather have an old-time team win than an expansion team, regardless of where they're from. I just find it kind of offensive that all US teams have been lumped together, it's as if the Bruins or Red Wings or Blackhawks are every bit as bad for hockey as a team like the Lightning. You can have your pride, but to make it a "US vs. Canada" thing rather than just a "that city shouldn't have a team at all and is part of the expansion that's killing the sport that I love" thing is fucked up.

Ray Bourque hoisting the Cup just a few years ago ... yes, it sucked that he wasn't wearing the spoked B, but it was great to see him finally realize the dream. Honorable mention: Vinatieri kicking the gamewinner in the Pats first SB win. Damn, that was fun to watch.

After Addy & Thumbtack name-dropped the band Absurd, I did some reading up on them ... who knew that there was such a huge National Socialist Black Metal scene?!? Back when I was a skinhead the metal scene was the enemy, and was hated more than rappers or jocks or preppies. (I was a S.H.A.R.P. but I knew quite a few racist skins, too.). It's weird to think that people are combining the two into one scene. And I think that most of the MENSA members making up the Nazi metal scene don't realize that Tommy ain't white. They're not the brightest of folks, you know.

As anti-PC as I am, I really don't see how prefacing your statement with "no disrepect meant" is supposed to make something acceptable. Although, the world would be a better place if you could say or do anything you wanted as long as you stressed - in advance - that you weren't trying to be disrepectful.
-
Bourque also spent 20 years with one team, and only left for the pursuit of a Cup. Plus, it was pretty well known that it'd be his last season, so if he didn't win it would mean that he retired without one. Andreychuk has been on, what, 5 or 6 teams now, and also never collected the hardware that Bourque did. So, I actually think it makes sense to have RB's Cup run get so much more attention.

Seconded I don't want to sound like Mr. Tough Guy, but I'd probably have my kid point out the problem kid (out of sight), find a way to get him in private and then let him know what's up... no physical violence unless necessary, just flash a knife or a gun and let him know I mean business if he keeps fucking around with my kid Two mistakes in this ... you don't want the kid to be able to link you to your daughter, so telling him to stay away from your kid will only get you, and maybe her, in trouble. And I don't think just intimidation and threats would be enough, eye for an eye, says I. Throw on a mask, give him the beating of his life, and tell him karma's a bitch.

And if anyone knows how to recognize diving players, it's a Habs fan. Maybe Ribeiro and Kovalev gave the Lightning some pointers during their series a few weeks ago. As an American fan, of a team that's been around longer than most current Canadian teams, I think it's a fucking insult that people up North are making this a "Canada vs. the US" thing. Do you think Boston fans love the idea of a team from Florida winning the Cup? I was pretty much apathetic about who won (just wanted good hockey) but now that I see that it's an us-vs.them thing, I'm stoked that the American team won.

Do you really think that the America media will care about this considering it is WWE and it was out of the country? You won't hear about this outside the internet, I say. Beat me to the punch by posting this already ... what mainstream media group is going to cover this 'scandal'? Having a pro-wrestler do the salute is no worse than having a band do it, and I'm pretty sure the racist Oi bands have toured Germany more than once. It's barely news to us, and we post on a wrestling board. Who else is going to care?!?

I was thinking more Twisted Metal that GTA ... either way, this guy went out playing a real life video game.

Well I know people would be let down by hockey getting #1. And I'm a hockey fan. I think it should be, I'm just skeptical of its acceptance from everyone else. And besides. It's ESPN. #1 is gonna be Jordan or Bonds, not Neal Broten. Miracle on Ice should be #1, but will barely scrape into the top 5 ... Jordan doing something will be number 1; McGuire hitting home runs and Tyson losing to Douglas will both be higher as well. I don't think that more than 5 or so hockey highlights will make the cut. The only hockey things that I can see making it are: Miracle on Ice, Gretzky's 50 goals in 39 games, Bourque winning the Cup (maybe) the Bertuzzi incident, Messier guaranteeing the win vs. NJ, Gretzky getting traded to LA ... and that's all that come to mind right now.

If TB wins tonight, the people in Calgary will freak out ... that disallowed goal WAS a goal, and should have won them the Cup. After the goal/no goal debacle of Hull's Cup-winner a few years ago, it'd be horrible to have another Cup won by questionable circumstances. Of course, I'm not going to agree when people say it's an anti-Canadian conspiracy ... I don't think the league will be any more happy having the Cup won by the Lightning than they would if it was won by Calgary. Who do you all think wins the Conn Smythe? Personally, I'd give it to Richards regardless of who wins tonight. The guy's just had so many game winners, it'd be tough not to give it to him.

Unless he was doing some drug that fucked up his hearing, I don't think that it would have caused his inability to hear a pop from the crowd. Plus, I thought that Arn's problems were more of the painkiller variety (plus probably blow in the 1980s, but everyone was on coke back then)

Looks like my plans for the summer have been finalized. Finally, a vacation that's worthwhile.

MTV to Launch Nation's First Gay TV Network
nl5xsk1 replied to EdwardKnoxII's topic in Television & Film
They're stupid for waiting until next February to launch ... won't this whole "Gay is Cool and Trendy" fad be over by then? -
"To me, that's what you call grit," said Paige Kimble, the bee director. "It was an extraordinary circumstance." Listen, lady, it's a spelling bee ... it's not life and death. Nothing extraordinary, and not enough grit to moisten your undies over. I feel so bad for these kids, who will undoubtedly go through a life of nerd-dom ... hell, a group of fools on a PRO WRESTLING MESSAGE BOARD are making fun of them. If that's not the bottom of the bottom of the barrel, then I don't know what is.

The Simpsons v. Family Guy - Yes, the Simpsons aren't as funny anymore, but when was the last funny NEW Family Guy episode? Married With Children v. Cheers - MWC just did not age as well as Cheers did. Sopranos v. Saved By The Bell - I never understood the SBtB love. That 70s Show v. 24 - Has there ever been a show that had a more blatant laugh track then That 70s Show?

I was going to go, but there's really not many bands that I want to see ... First day: I'd go to Ani, Chris Robinson & Vida Blue, but otherwise could take or leave the other acts. (Count Danger Mouse as someone that I'd check out, but it's at the same time as Vida Blue). Second day: Los Lobos, Jazz Mandolin Project & Primus. Third day: MMW & Trey. (and I normally don't really like Trey's solo stuff, so it'd be tough to stick through the entire set.) Not enough bands to justify spending the ducats for tix. Not this year, I guess.

They shouldn't have done it as a "Top 100 list" because the order that they put the choices in are completely random ... I'd think that things done by the death metal guys in Sweden are more 'metal' than anything Bon Jovi has ever done. Hell, how is Rob Halford coming out of the closet a 'metal moment' at all?!? They should have just done "Heavy Metal's Most Memorable Moments" and been done with it.

Dale and Gordie (the guys that do the Bruins games) are definitely biased, but they don't shriek like school girls over goals or missed penalties. That's the line that I mean shouldn't be crossed; obviously they're being paid to cater to a certain team's fans so have to call the game with a bias towards that team. It's when the guys scream and holler and shriek that I think the line is crossed.
