    Belmont Stakes

I think that he will ... he ran away from the field so convincingly at the Preakness it'd be tough to bet against him. Plus, he's shown that he can run in the mud, so bad weather shouldn't effect him too much if it does take a turn for the worse. I'm doing a tri-box on Smarty, RH10 & Eddington (not a huge Purge fan) and probably just throw a $20 on Royal Assault to show (always have to bet at least one 'dog)

The 2004 Stanley Cup Playoffs thread

I agree that Mishkin get a bit too excited ... he's not as bad as that idiot for the Penguins (the one that makes up the stupid long-ass sayings) but he's definitely crossed the line of professionalism. It's one thing to be biased and excitable, but you have to draw the line somewhere.

    Multiple Sport Cities

Boston: so dominated by the Red Sox it's not even funny. The Pats are in the Super Bowl and more people are talking about the Sox picking up ARod than they are the fact that the Pats are on a 14 game winning streak.

    Fark

Hey, it's pretty obvious that there are a ton of us that frequent fark.com ... so many of the links that are posted there end up posted here, and our jargon is pretty similar as well ("hilarity ensues", "I'd hit it", etc.). So, is anyone actually a posting member of fark, or are you all lurkers just like me?

    Why ESPN sucks

Didn't the executives at ESPN/ABC shit all over Walton for consistently dropping Grateful Dead references? Maybe they put the Doc up there instead of him for that. (not that I'm a Dead-head by any stretch of the imagination, but would choose a "Scarlet Begonias" reference over an Jay-Z reference 7 days a week)

kkk NFL pick 'em contest Season Two signups

No worries ... it's just that my name is probably the least memorable on the board to begin with, and I was leery that too many mis-spellings would make the yokels even more confused.

    Horse hockey!

Having a post count of 0 = thumbs up. Getting the fucking theme song from MASH stuck in my head = thumbs down. (would that have counted as a +1 if this wasn't HD?)
  9. Hey, people are always looking for Paul London to get more TV-time ...

The 2004 Stanley Cup Playoffs thread

smh, I think all impartial posters agree that Vinny was really hurt after the hit, and didn't fake anything or hype anything up, so don't sweat that. It's just him being a Calgary homer. But, statistically, you're wrong when you say that the Lightning have had fewer PP opportunities ... I was actually reading the stats page on nhl.com before coming to TSM, and the Lightning have had like 20-something more PP chances than penalties called against them. (The Flames had like 9 or 10 more against than for.)

Not to be a complainer, Mr Commisioner, but you typo'ed my name ... other than that, looking forward to kicking everyone's asses and taking their money.

The 2004 Stanley Cup Playoffs thread

I think my new favorite pastime is reading Calgary fans bitch about the Lightning and Tampa fans bitch about the Flames. It's like they're watching two different series or something. Just a whole lot of fun to read. Me & redbaron had our moments during the MTL-Boston series, but I don't remember it ever getting this comical.

    TSM Poster Tournament III

I was going to quit participating once I got eliminated, but due to my shocking advancement past round 1, I figure I'll still throw my weight around (thanks for giving me the easiest round 1 matchup, too!) Ripper Lord Of The Curry Kotz Thumbtack BPS Agent Of Oblivion FrozenBlockOfPiss IDRM While I have to admit that I've yet to participate in a circle jerk, my presumption was that they were all kind of personal. Godsmack Vs Story Of The Year

Both bands suck balls, but from what I've heard a pregnant woman got trampled when the MENSA convention jumped to the floor, and she had to be taken by ambulance to the hospital. Now, let me ask you, who will have to pay up the most when the inevitable lawsuite occurs? Certainly not the one-hit-wonders who are enjoying their 15 minutes of fame. Hey, Story of the Year, tell the guys in Crazy Town that we all said hi when you see them in obscurity.

    Starship Troopers 2

One of my teacher's assistant's in college was an extra in the first ST, and shower her titties in the shower scene. She made the mistake of drunkenly telling one of the frat guys in my class when she saw him at the bar. He told the rest of us. It was hard to watch her teach for the rest of the semester (no pun intended).

    GREATEST Movie Tournament...

2001 Once Upon a Time in America Menace II Society Fast Times at Ridgemont High (yes, I know 2 of my choices are off the beaten track, but a lot of what I'd have nominated have been suggested already.)

JP Losman as a Buffalo Bill

First of all, if Losman's head's spinning now, wait until he has to face the Pats D twice a year. Better QB's than him have looked stupid in the face of that D, and I don't think that he'll be any different. Second of all, as a long-time Pats fan, I can commiserate with bps on the play calling when Drew-sie under the center. If I had a dollar for everytime the team passed when it was third and short, I'd be a rich, rich man.

The 2004 Stanley Cup Playoffs thread

First of all, I'd like to thank those that were willing to allow me to plea-bargain my sentence down. I've been in the hockey threads with most of you all season, so it should be known that I'm an actual fan of the sport, and anyone that's a fan of the sport knows how vile Fraser is. It was very difficult to 'defend' him that way, but I said what I thought needed to be said. smh, what do you think Regehr was thinking: "maybe I could slam his face into the glass like it was a turnbuckle in pro wrestling"?!? It wasn't a dirty hit, it was a fluke thing that happened to take out a player that was on a very strong hot streak. Intent to hit? Yes. Intent to injure? No. Like Max said, the hit by Stillman was worse than I've seen anything done by Calgary (including the hit on Vinny). Yeah, I think it's sour grapes. They lost, so they're bitching about it. How would these same players/front office guys have dealt with things in the 70s and early 80s when that style of physical play was the norm?
  19. Hopefully karma is going to bite him in the ass ... maybe a nice speeding ticket, or something that involves a weekend stay in the local grey-bar motel. I happen to have a lot of friends/ family members that are cops. Someone kills one of them, they'd better hope that they go to trial and get some lightweight sentence. nl5: believes in vigilante justice.

TNA needs to get REAL music

They could very easily find mid-level bands that'd be stoked just to get the extra notoriety of having their songs used (Monster Magnet, for example, or Rob Zombie) ... and then they could release an album of just these songs. Kind of like ECW did. Yes, it'd be better to have famous songs by famous artists, but it'd also be much more expensive.
  22. Death Penalty: I'm a big proponent. If you kill someone, or do nasty things to children, you don't deserve to live. You deserve to die, and die soon. No drawn out appeals, no extended (and expensive) drawn out bullshit. Kill the man (or woman) and kill them soon. Yes, there's a chance that someone that's not guilty will get the plunge, but it's still a small enough chance that it's a risk that I'm willing to take. Of course, I'm also a big proponent of using those that are service life-sentences as human guinea pigs instead of animal testing. You kill a cop, or another heinous crime, you suffer until you die.

The 2004 Stanley Cup Playoffs thread

Yes, I noticed that the likes of Oliwa and Simon got plenty of ice time when the game was out of reach, but they also got their share of ice time early in the game, too. (one thing that I like about both coaches is their willingness to use all 4 lines ... I wish Boston would have done more of that.) People have to get off this "intent to injure" bullshit - the hit on Fedotenko was just a normal hit that ended up smacking his face off the dasher. The same thing happened to Salvador of the Blues 2 or 3 post-seasons ago, and I thought that it was a fluke then, too. The hit on Vinny was obviously much worse, and a penalty was rightfully called ... but to say that Niemenen hit him with the sole purpose of hurting him is a farce. Calgary plays the Sutter-style: hit everything that moves. And then hit 'em again.

The 2004 Stanley Cup Playoffs thread

Max: Bob Goodenow > Gary Bettman smh: There's no way you can really think that the way that Calgary plays is more of a farce than the way that Philly played, is there? Calgary plays old-school hockey; Philly sends Brashear out there to push into every guy EXCEPT the other team's fighter. Philly is cheaper and dirtier than the Flames.
