Why only two terms for the President?

No, it's not safe to say that because I'd clock you in the mouth... Hey, besides being a proud Republican, I also have a great distaste for guys that like fat chicks ... so I'm not happy that Clinton would have won. I just think that it's likely that he would have.

    The next World Champion (Raw)

No. "The Good McMahon" killed any chance of him ever being world champ agin. Don't you think "ever again" is a bit drastic? The average memory span of a wrestling fan is just a few months. Give Kane a 6 month monster streak, and his 'feud' with Shane-O will long since forgotten.

    Phish's Festival, Coventry...

But I guess you will ... It was a few years ago now, one of the last times that Phish played at Great Woods. A few friends and I got tickets in the pavillian, as in actual seats. I went to get myself a drink (can't remember if it was water or beer) and when I came back there were some hippies noodle dancing in the aisle, blocking my path to my seat. Figuring I'd just let them enjoy their noodle, and then when that song ended slide past them to my seat. Well, evidently this girl (probably late teens, or early 20s) thought that she was more 'down' than I was, so told me that "the view is much better towards the front"; I responded by telling her that I knew what the band looked like, and didn't need a better view. So she told me that the sound was better over there, and I told her while I knew the seats near the soundboard had better sound that wasn't where my seat was. At this point she'd not even dancing, just yelling at me about how "new fans are fucking up her scene" and "some people come here to dance and have fun" ... that's about all I can take, and I tell her to fuck herself, that I've been going to shows since '92 (NYE '92 into '93 was my first show) and that it was people like HER that fucked up MY scene. And then I told her to get the fuck out of my way while I went to my seat. And that's the story of why I hate most hippies. Nevermortal, remind me what kind of music you like, so I can make naive stereotypical observations on it? Thanks in advance.

Bill Cosby lays the smack down

Regardless of the person's race or ethnic background, if you can't speak coherently, you won't get far in this world. Now, I'm not talking about dangling modifiers or anything like that, I'm talking about "ain't" and "nobody told me nothing" and basic grammar.

Why only two terms for the President?

Yes, it's safe to say that Clinton would have beat Bush to win a third term, but that's assuming that Ronald Wilson Reagan lost in 1988 ... which he probably wouldn't have. And having Reagan in office for another 4 years would have changed the dynamic of everything that happened afterwards. And, even though I'm a Reagan-fan, having him in office from '88-'92 would have been bad ... the man was nearing senility because of his alzheimers, and it would not have been a pretty picture.

The 2004 Stanley Cup Playoffs thread

Dominated is a strong word, Zsasz ... they played well, potentially even a bit stronger than TB, but I don't know if I'd use the word dominated there. EDIT: I just re-read your post, and saw that you were referring to OT only ... I'd thought you meant the entire game (bell-to-bell). I take back my original statement, as I'll agree that Philly played a much stronger OT than Tampa did. And am I the only one that thought, as soon as Primeau scored that game-tying goal, "if Tampa goes on to lose this series, Keith Primeau will be public enemy #1 in Tampa"? The same way that Red Sox fans say "Bucky Fucking Dent" it'll be Keith Fucking Primeau.

    Listen

How is anyone's life so drastically ruined by threads getting modified, or edited, or even closed outright? It's a message-board. If a thread was there, and then it's not, so be it, move on and read a different thread. What's been eliminated that's been so crucial to everyone's enjoying the board?

Why only two terms for the President?

Non-Americans won't get the reference, but to those of us in the US that want proof that we need term limitations, please see Teddy Kennedy here in Taxachusetts. Idiot's been Senator since 1962, and won't be voted out until he's dead and buried (and even then would probably still get elected). The fact that Diamond Joe Quimby is a partial parody of him is proof enough that the man's an idiot.

    New law on porn spam

I work for a major high-tech global company, and we got a porn spam email sent to the world-wide distribution list a few months back, that only had two actual names cc'ed on it: two women executives that everyone knows. I saved the text from the email, and will copy it below: Needless to say, it's been the running joke in the US office for months now. Anytime I get pissed at either executive, I just re-read that email and laugh my ass off.

    NHL on NBC

Aren't those games blacked out due to local coverage? I know that normally when the Bruins are given an ESPN game (maybe once a year, if that much) that we normally still get the piss-poor NESN coverage.

The 2004 Stanley Cup Playoffs thread

Yes, Vern, Calgary's the first Canadian team to make the Cup since Vancouver in 1994 ... and if they win, first to win since Montreal in 1993. (it's crazy, from like 1985 - 1990, it was all Canadian Cup winners, yet since then there's only been 1.)

    Phish's Festival, Coventry...

Wb4:20, I'll never ever call it anything but Great Woods. The best is when people interrupt me to correct me, as if I'm unaware that it's had a new name for a few years now. (but then again, I call waiters "male waitresses" and stewards "male stewardesses" so I have no problem being pig-headed and beligerent).

    My one problem with Eugene

I thought that Chyna was the 9th Wonder of the World because Andre had been labeled as the 8th? (pretty good continuity for the fed, if you ask me). And, AS, how can you compare a guy's jacket being inside-out to major plot holes? Mountain out of a molehill.
  14. Brad Reingans/Ken Patera as the "Olympians" ... nothing more needs to be said.

    Phish's Festival, Coventry...

Mole, I'm one of the few other Phish fans on TSM, so I'll respond. I'm thinking of going this year, even though I'm getting a bit old to be going to shows (had an 'incident' with some douchebag that thought that just because I have short hair that it was my first show ... I had to break it to her that I'd been going to shows since she was in elementary school. That kind of turned me off of the whole scene. But I digress ...) I went to the Lemonwheel and the NYE one in Big Cypress, and had enough fun at those to go again. I was planning on doing the Great Woods shows, too, but I don't know if I'm ready to invest that much scratch in Phish shows right now.

    NHL on NBC

First of all, I have to eat my words. I thought that ESPN would fuck them over for not re-upping with ABC. So, it's good to know that I'll get my semi-weekly coverage of the Wings and Avs. (/sarcasm) Why all American hockey fans don't invest in the hockey package is beyond me. The ESPN coverage sucks, the major network coverage even worse. If you have any inclination to watching great players on the less-than-stellar teams (Nash, Kovalchuk, Iginla {before this postseason}) you need to invest in the package.

    Your teams biggest heartbreaking moment

I don't get how random regular season losses are being listed as "most heartbreaking moments" ... yeah, I get bummed when the Bruins lose, but there's no reason for me to start listing bad losses that in the grand scheme of things only meant losing one game.

The 2004 Stanley Cup Playoffs thread

I don't think it makes a difference who represents the East in the Cup; those of us that are going to watch it will watch it, and those people that wouldn't have watched it won't watch it anyways. The only difference might be who's more likely to draw a bigger local crowd, TB or Philly? Congratulations to the Flames, and their fans. After so many years of mediocrity, it's good to see them not only making the playoffs but excelling all the way through. If it ends up being Calgary vs. Philly, I'll actually be rooting for the Flames.
  19. Is that 2:45 am local time, or 2:45 am EDT (since this was quoted from a Boston based paper)? If it's local time, why are 15 kids still out partying? Not that it makes their loss any less tragic, but put the kids to bed before shooting your guns in the air. Common sense.
  20. My favorite two are probably AoO and BPS, because they're the two that I have had the most interaction with, at least lately. I don't have least favorite, no one has done anything to me, or the board, that's bothered me.

Should Ric Flair retire or not?

Loss, just because someone stayed on long after their best days were behind them, it doesn't mean that their legacy will be irrepably tarnished. To take it to 'real' sports, look at Willie Mays or Michael Jordan. Do people talk about Mays playing like shit as a Met, or his peak as a Giant? Who, in the future, will focus more on Jordan's very pedestrian days as a Bullet (or whatever Washington is called now) rather than as a Bull?? If Flair wants to be out there, let him. The only people who will really focus on the Flair of today are the new marks that don't bother to learn about the past, and thus only know him as a freaky looking old guy.

    My one problem with Eugene

Can't we just presume that Eugene dresses himself for the match, and the satin side feels better against his skin? He doesn't know enough to know that it's wrong, and doesn't care enough when people point it out to him. So, he dresses so it's comfortable regardless of it being 'funny' or not.

New person in the Monday Night Football booth?

I'd rather they get OJ Simpson back on the show than put Chaz Barkley up there. Barkley joining Mumbles and Michaels in the booth would be enough to make me not listen to the games anymore. (/gently caresses the mute button)

    NHL on NBC

Good luck getting ESPN to re-up now that they've chosen NBC over ABC. And it's not like they can use Fox Sports as an alternative. Are there any cable channels that are part of the same 'family' as NBC that might play weekly weeknight games? I'd be willing to watch USA or one of the other random cable channels if it meant seeing weekly hockey coverage. Looks like another year of getting the Center Ice package to see more than 13 games next year.
  25. Out of the present Smackdown people listed by Trivia, the only 2 I give half a shit about are Rey and Knoble. The other ones could be fired or given the worst gimmicks in the world and it wouldn't bother me at all. The only true 'big name' that's been given a shit gimmick so far is Booker T, and his career was ruined long before that. Only if (when) they start giving everyone shit gimmicks will I start to care.
