Should he retire? Yes, undoubtedly. Do I want him to retire? No, not at all. The guy's one of my favorites of all time, and even now that he's a shadow of his former self he's still one of the most fun to watch. But I agree with the others, a feud with Orton is inevitable, and that'll probably be his last hurrah*. *until he comes out of retirement and wrestles in some pointless match.

So fucking help me if they cut from of the Eastern Conference Finals to show a fucking baseball pitcher go for a perfect game. I wouldn't be typing this now, I'd be in Bristol pissing on the ashes of the burnt studios of ESPN. Maybe show it on ESPNews, or ESPNClassic ... but don't cut from live coverage of an actual playoff game to show it.

The Rangers would have made more sense than the Canadiens. Yes, they haven't won a Cup since 1993, but at least they make the playoffs. The Rangers won the next year, 1994, and haven't done much since, and are working a playoff-drought of 7 years. Hell, the Bruins are a better choice than Montreal; they make the playoffs and then lose in round one. Montreal at least advances to round 2 occasionally.

Yes, this is the same Halle Berry that won an Oscar. It's also the same Halle Berry that didn't deserve an Oscar.

For what? Eddie fucking up and blading himself too deeply? Let me quote the 'article' that you posted: It doesn't sound like saying Fuck you to anyone makes much sense ... and if anyone deserves one, it's Eddie himself.

When he's at his best, and at 100%, I wholeheartedly agree. But can Warner stay healthy all year? I doubt it. And can Warner play like he's capable of when it's oustide in the snowy, windblown Giants Stadium (to a decent but not spectacular set of wideouts) instead of in a dome, throwing to a track team? Again, I doubt it.

Maybe because 99% of the audience has no idea who London is, and thus his entrance would be met with utter silence. And yes, I recognize that if they put him on TV more, he'd be better recognized. But it's a catch 22, you can't put him on TV because people don't know or care about him, but if he's never on TV people won't ever get the chance to know or care about him.

I'm rooting Sharks, too, even though it'd bother me to have an all Sun-Belt Cup. I've been rooting for the Sharks to win the West since Vancouver got eliminated, so I don't want to jump off the bandwagon now.

No, I think that the Lakers are pretty hated on, too. Maybe you don't see it as much because you're still in that area, but I think most of the rest of the nation roots as strongly against the Lakers as they do the Yankees.

Is it too late to nominate someone? I just saw that I'd been nomiated, and would feel like a dick if I didn't give the throwback. If it's not too late, can I throw JangoFett4Hire into the mix?

Agreed ... I'm surprised by how deep the Sweden team is now, they've had a huge influx of young talent to really stock the team. Should be some really good hockey being played.
-
Does anyone know when the other teams are expected to be announced? It's not surprising that the Canadians were announced first, but I'm hoping it's not too long until the US and international teams are announced. And I've heard the quote from Gretzky that the Canadians have enough talent to field 2 really good teams ... how sweet would it be if they were really allowed to enter two teams into the tournament? Maybe Eastern & Western Canada, or something like that.

If they do Guerrero/JBL at the Great American Bash, I'm praying that they don't over-do the whole "JBL is a real American because he hates foreignors" spiel, to tie it in with the imagery of the PPV. It's bad enough that they're using illegal immigrant jokes to get heel heat, doing them to surround the entire PPV build would be too much.

Good job, well written analysis. My only question/complaint is with the differences between I(incomplete) and F-grades. Shouldn't both Snow & Nitro have gotten incompletes (one match between them) rather than Fs?

Keane was highly recommended by John Buccigross (hockey writer for ESPN) and he seems to be on-point with a lot of his recommendations. He did specify that 'if you like Coldplay, you'll like Keane' (paraphrase, not an actual quote). Other than that, this is the first I've ever heard of them, good, bad, or otherwise.

Bruins: Losing to Montreal in 1979 because of a too many men on the ice call. Such a bullshit call, such a bullshit way to lose the series. And seeing Bobby Orr & Ray Bourque wearing Blackhawks & Avalanche sweaters, respectively. Some things just shouldn't have had to happen.

Wait ... are you implying that's a good thing? Taking hockey out of Minnesota, and putting it in Texas? Taking it from Winnipeg, and putting it to be ignored in the desert? I won't criticize Colorado, because the fans there seem to really care about the team, but I'm curious to see what will happen if/when the Avs aren't a successful team; I lived there when the Nuggets were bad, and they were as ignored as a pro sports team could be. And don't get me started on the Hurricanes; they draw less in Carolina than they did when they were a 'failure' in Hartford. It's a farce that the league doesn't admit it's mistake and yank that franchise out of Carolina. Relocation is only marginally better than expansion.

I should do this as a poll, but I'm way too lazy ... so, I'll just ask outright. What things do other people do on this board that drive you crazy? I'm torn between two things: 1) Overusing the 'quote' feature. If you're the second person responding in a thread, no need to quote the original post. If someone can't figure out what you're responding to, they should be more concerned with how far their own head is up their ass than reading a post on a message board. Similarly, if you're responding to the post that'll be right above yours, it's pretty self explanatory. (as a side to this, when someone is only responding to one part of a post but quotes the entire thing drives me nuts ... edit that shit down, and only keep what you're referring to) 2) Ambiguous thread subjects, which I think if found most often in CE. If you're going to post a thread, at least be kind enough to tell the rest of us what it's about ... too many times I click on a thread and ultimately decide it's nothing that I care about, and then just leave it without contributing at all. There's one in CE right now that has 750+ views and only 30-something posts ... tell me that's not a shitload of people checking it out and then realizing that they don't care enough to post. How about you all, anything just rub you the wrong way on the board? (and, yes, I'm fully ready for at least one person to say "yeah, people bitching on the board bothers me")

Is this a bike as in a motorcycle, or a bike as in a pedal pusher? nl5: thinks riding bikes is not that manly.

Hockey: I'd have to say the Joe Louis Arena, just because it reminds me of the old 'barns' that teams like Winnipeg and Quebec used to play in, and the fact that you can walk from the first row to the last without having to go through the concourse or anything is sweet. I just love the fact that the Wings haven't built a new arena just because their old was in getting older. Out of the new ones, I'd have to say either the ACC or the Bell Centre were my favorites, although I dug HSBC in Buffalo as well (the fact that the game in Buffalo was only about 75% full hurt it's standings ... I like a full house for games) Baseball: Wrigley Field, far and away. I don't know if it's because I've been to Fenway Park and Yankee Stadium so many times (especially Fenway), but I just find that everytime I go to Wrigley it further distances itself from the others. Maybe if I went to Wrigley more than once a year, it'd start to lose it's luster. Football: Gillette Stadium. Not much else to say, watching the best team playing in the nicest stadium is a great way to spend a Sunday. Basketball: The only current place I've seen a basketball game is the Fleet Center, and other than the fact that I can sneak to the premium seats every time, I wasn't overly impressed. Wins by default. And, if we can vote for places that aren't in existance anymore, give me the Boston Garden over anywhere else ... loved it growing up, and really got emotional while watching them tear it down.

A few random thoughts ... Brush with Greatness, I totally agree with you on the Sunbelt teams ... but it's not just their location, it's the fact that I consider the over-expansion of hockey one of the things that is most hurting the game. How the sport went from 16 teams to 30 so quickly is beyond me (well, I know exactly why it is {Bettman's an idiot} but it still boggles my mind). The fact that California & Florida combine to have almost as many teams as Canada is a joke. Unless teams like Anaheim and Florida were relocated to Quebec City, Winnipeg or Hartford, I'd rather they just contract. (**I also agree with you about SledgehammerUH, but I don't want to kick a man when he's down) The 'fights' at the end of the Philly-TB game were jokes. How does anyone consider Brashear a tough guy anymore? He took a run at every guy except the one that would fight him (Roy). If he wanted to send a message or retaliate or something like that, why not choose a partner that actually would want to fight?? I remember watching him take cheap shots at PJ Stock (who's all of 5'10, 185) and then scurry to the bench before Stock could get revenge. Biggest pussy in hockey. I hope both series go the full 7 games, although I don't think either will. Even if SJ manages to win game 4 (which is unlikely) I think that Calgary has too much momentum going behind them, and they'd be able to rap it up in 6. Same with TB, regardless of who wins game 4, I could see them winning in either 5 or 6.

That alone, as a straight up trade, would have been a bad trade for Phlly. Throw in the other guys, the pick and the cash, and it's got to be considered one of the worst trades in any sport, all time.

They probably won't, because the name actually honours Native Americans. It's not as if it's a derogatory term like a certain NFL team uses... On top of that, the school actually coordinates with the Illini and uses their authentic tribal dress and whatnot Same for FSU and the Seminoles My high school was called the Golden Warriors, but some local Native Americans complained and petitioned that we change the name. The town voted it down, but instead just compromised and dropped the "Golden" and modified the symbols to look less stereotypical. Interestingly, the Golden Warriors name is relatively recent (1950s) and was chosen to replace the old name (Blue Devils) which was deemed too Satanic or something for Puritanial New England.
