For who we got in return, it doesn't really seem like it was worth it. And I mean we didn't really get any of those guys for a long time. When the trade was made, it was thought that Jimmy Carson was going to be a 50-goal scorer, the kind of player you could build the team around. On paper it made sense, trade a guy that was going to be priced out of your price range (to California, too, which is where he wanted to go) for an alleged young superstar. The fact that Carson bombed is what made this trade so bad. And wasn't the "cash" in question like $15-million USD, too? Not bad scratch for a team that needed money. The goalie thing for the other trade is just questionable in hindsight ... if the Oilers had played really well with Salo/Conklin, they wouldn't have reaquried Markkanen. Since they weren't going to win the Cup this year anyways, might as well move the older goalie and go with the two young kids.

Wow, an acquaintance of mine from an internet message board made the papers ... I actually feel cooler about that than I care to admit. Good job, man.

I'm actually pretty lucky, the only two local teams that I really care about are the Bruins and Patriots, and neither have a really bad trade to reference. The Red Sox have a ton, but I'll let someone that cares about them complain about them. The only one that I can think of is the Bourque trade (Bourque and Andreychuk to Colorado for Ralston, Grenier, Pahlsson, and a pick.) But even that worked out for the B's, as Ralston still plays for them and we, as Bruins fans, got to watch Raymond skate with that chalice over his head. I'll give it more thought and see if I can think of any worth bitching about.

By 'Don "Minor League Looking Coach"' do you mean John Tortorella, the candidate for the Adams Trophy? The guy who's team finished #2 overall, #1 in the East? An yet you refer to him as "Minor League Looking Coach"? Do you mean his fashion sense, or his beard or what? Because don't tell me you consider yourself an actual hockey fan and then sell him short in term's of abilities as a coach. Hitch was out of line, his panties were in a not b/c the video guys were replaying the Brashear hit repeatedly to get the fans agitated, and he was screaming at the Lightning as a result. And the league reprimanded the video guys in TB. But Hitchcock should know to let the players deal with players, and the coaches with the other coaches (see Crawford-vs-Bowman, Granato-vs-Crawford, or Therien-vs-Ftorek for past examples). Also, the only quote you reference that's not accurate is the last one ("I know how Philadelphia works. They like to hear about themselves."). The rest are accurate.

Wasn't "Real American" originally supposed to be for them, but ultimately got shifted to Hogan for whatever reason? (I always thought it was because Windham left, and took a lot of the credibility of the team with him, but I might have made that up). Sweet reference, man ... I used to be an ICW mark, primarily because it was the only indy that I had access to on TV at that time. I dug it more before it merged with WCCW, just because the only southern star I remember coming in was Kevin Von Erich. But before that, I used to dig "Boston Bad Boy" Tony Rumble, the Madison Bros, Tasmaniac, Tony Atlas, etc. Good indy wrestling.

Boston Globe publishes fake Army/Iraqi rape pics
nl5xsk1 replied to kkktookmybabyaway's topic in Current Events
What are you asking here? Are you implying that the photos are of an actual rape, but then a whole fake-rape/porno site thing was created to cover-up the actual rapes? Not flame-baiting, just unsure. -
It looks more like the 2nd Annual Montgomery Burns Award For Outstanding Acheivement In The Field Of Excellence than something that would go to the winner of a tourney. Two thumbs down.

I chose Fox, but just because it's the best of a bad lot ... ESPN is too busy trying to fellate itself, and CBS is like that kid in school that always tried so hard to be cool that it just became more obvious that he wasn't. And who cares that it's May? As someone that hates basketball & baseball with a passion, I need a second sport to think about besides hockey.

If people are really going to miss him, I could volunteer to log onto TSM and talk gibberish and abuse the English language for an hour or so every Sunday. I can't promise to be wearing stupid-ass suits, but I can at least provide your weekly dose of "what the fuck is he trying to say?!?" Just let me know. I'll certainly do it for less than $1,000,000.

I'd prefer it if this storyline got dropped. Say, Kane squashes Hardy, and then just tells Lita "I'm done with you ... for now" or something. Then, while Hardy is basically out cold in the ring, Christian & Trish come down, and pummel Hardy for a bit while Tomko holds Lita back. This all sets up a Lita/Hardy vs. Trish/Christian match ... and that's where Lita turns on Hardy, leaving Christian with a mini-harem of ladies. It'd help him get his cocky heel image a little more over, and the whole idea of quasi-lesbian teases between Trish & Lita would get the horny-male-teen audience all hot and bothered. Plus, if they wanted to bring back Jeff, it'd allow for a Hardys vs. Christian & Tomko tag feud.

Maybe Konnan's going to get the Brian Christopher treatment ... brought back, jobbed out a few times, and then kicked back to the curb. If there was time before the PPV they could use him as a punching bag for JBL before the match with Guererro.

They should go by "The Mighty Orange of Syracuse" and have an angry looking orange (the fruit) serve as their mascot. I'm thinking something that looks like the Hawaiian Punch guy, but more pissed off.

Blow into the barrel while depressing the trigger. No, no, no, you've got to SUCK it out of the barrel, pulling it towards your mouth. If you blow on it, you force it the other way.

Thanks for making us remember why having new people jump to a board sucks because there is always at least one of them that gives us a reason to resent them. (and thanks for your concern with us and our potentially injured arms)

Give me a joint or three, and a building full of sorority & goth girls, and I'm having a good time. Thus, nl5 is going to the Cure show in Boston (although it's probably really in Worcester or Mansfield)

First point: Sorry, Ripper, I'm a Geto Boys mark, and Nip appears on a few tracks of theirs. So when I saw the CD for like $2.25 in a used record store I figured it'd be worth the money. Second point: JHawk, I agree that maybe 'no-name' was selling Lewin a bit short, but I think I'm among the older people on this board, and even I only remember him from WCCW and his time in Florida as one of Kevin Sullivan's disciples. So, it's not a major name like most of the other ones referenced in this thread.

Was Barry Balco sitting in that plush leather chair that he gets in the locker room? The one that no other Giant - regardless of race or ethincicity - gets? Man, he's got it rough all right.
-
I'm far too lazy to search out the actual lyrics, but I know the Wu-Tang Clan name dropped Bam Bam Bigelow & Big John Studd, and in my absolute favorite one, Gangsta Nip name dropped "Maniac" Mark Lewin, maybe my favorite old-school no-name wrestler.

No reason to apologize, having a different opinion is fine by me. But if you think this board is 'great' than why bother going through the effort to post a reply indicating how apathetic you are that the guy that owns the board is back? There were choices other than giving him the verbal hummer ... like not posting anything at all. Or even express some gratitude for the person that kept this great board alive.

This might be a stupid question: in a series like TB-Philly, would there be the same Hockey Night in Canada coverage that there would have been with a Canadian team in the series? If so: On behalf of sane Americans, let me apologize to our neighbors to the North for the Saturday game being on the middle of the day, instead of being on during prime time for HNIC. The dimwits running ABC/ESPN feel that it's more important to give the NBA Playoffs (with their record setting low ratings) the prime time at the expense of the history of Saturday Night hockey. If not: Nevemind. Go Lightning. Either way: Fuck. Gary. Bettman.

Not to ask a stupid question, RepoManReborn, but why mock the return of the person that's the Super Admin (aka owner) of the board? In a word, "unintelligent"

The only band that I can think of that's really done a good job of not selling out at all is Fugazi. They release their own records, on Ian's own label, they limit the cost of records/discs/cassettes and they limit how expensive their shows are. (of course, I think Ian comes from a very rich family, so doesn't need to rape the fans wallets to make extra money.) How about a band like Phish, though, that went on hiatus right when they were reaching a level of mainstream popularity/notoriety? They kind of did the exact opposite of selling out, by disappearing from the scene rather than exploit their new money-making potential. And not all selling out is bad: David Bowie admits that a lot of his 80s songs were just to make $$$, and I dig a lot of those tunes (China Girl, Let's Dance, etc.)

CR, you're a hockey guy ... how can you name Probie over Gordie Fucking Howe as someone you think of when you think of the Wings? I'd even put Howe above Yzerman, although, it might be that I'm blinded by the fact that Stevie Y is still active (for now).

Max Power did a bang-up job on the three sports he named (Orr, Bird & Williams) but didn't do the Pats, so I'm going to name my choice for them: John Hannah. Yes, I know it's sad to pick an o-lineman as the greatest ever, but he's up there with Munoz as one of the greatest offensive lineman to ever play the game. So, he's a pretty easy choice in my eyes.

I voted Somewhere In Time, but it was hard to overlook 7th Son and Live After Death. But SiT was the first one that I really fell in love with, so it's got a special place in my heart.
