Thanks, Spiff ... but I think showing her was a bad idea. She's back on her "how can you like a sport like that??" tangent. I'll have to dig up some end-to-end Orr rushes, or an series of amazing saves, to show her why I love the sport.

You young whippersnappers are showing your age ... How can you think "Astros" and not think Nolan Ryan? Or Cubs and not think "Mr. Cub" Ernie Banks? (hell, I'd put Ryne Sandburg as more associated with the Cubs than Sosa). And a team like the Celtics are like the Yankees or Canadians: too many great players have worn the uniform for one, and only one, to be associated with them. The only ones that I can think of right now are the new, expansion teams: Hornets = Larry Johnson Heat = Alonzo Mourning Lighting = Vincent Lecavalier (although St Louis might replace him in a year or so) Wild = Marian Gaborik

Home ice is key, though, regardless of a few points one way or another. Maybe not as much in Jersey, but beating the Habs and Leafs is MUCH easier if you have 4 games at home and only 3 on their pond.

TC, is that sarcasm with the "sounds about fair"? (sometimes it's hard to tell what's sarcasm and what's the truth). And does anyone have a copy of the incident? I was trying to explain it to a co-worker and really can't do it justice, so wanted to show her the clip. The one posted above (from fundy.net) is farked.

Not that I'm a literary master or anything, but his writing style on the webpage leaves a lot to be desired. There's always typos and poorly constructed sentences. My presumption is that the typos would be corrected in editing, but is the writing style the same choppy style that he uses online?

I've posted on the TSM while lit up plenty of times. And I don't think that my posting is any different. But I think that I've been smoking long enough that I've been able to learn how to do deal with it and not have it fuck up my way of doing things. Now, posting while drunk, on the other hand, is a bitch. Too many typos, too much work making sense. It ain't worth it.

This was too subtle, perhaps. I've seen enough eel porn in my day to not have to click on the links. And I've seen enough things much worse than eel porn. Eel porn is tame.

Didn't the 'Canes win their division that year, though, so entered the playoffs as the #3 seed? And, while my memory's not the best, I think both the 1 & 2 seeds lost in the first round. So, the 'Canes had home ice advantage for the entire Eastern Conference (correct me if I'm wrong). That's much easier than being the #6 seed and beating 3, 1, then 2 to get to the Cup.

Current: Anna Kournikova. In a hot-tub. While sipping cocktails. Past: Probably Bobby Orr, or just one of the other Bruins during their hey-day (Espo, Sanderson, Cheevers).

Giving two shits about him is even older. Remind me why this is thead-worthy again??

How come it's cool when some guys stiff other wrestlers (Vader, Steiners in their prime, the Puro wrestlers who I don't know the names of) but when Holly does, he should be fired or what have you. Not to be a Holly supporter, but pick a side of the fence and stick with it: either ALL stiff wrestlers suck and should be raked over the coals, or NONE of them should.

I've done some dumb things. I've watched my friends do some dumb things. But as soon as those dumb things involve testicals and/or the schlong, I tend to draw the line. Seriously, how faded would you have to be to think that putting your balls in a golf course ball washer is a good idea.

The only Boston/New England team that really gets shortchanged is the Pats. The Sox get more than enough attention & adoration from the national media. The Celtics suck, so don't deserve any. Hockey as a whole gets minimal attention, so a relatively small fish in that small pond gets as much attention as can be expected. But keep in mind that the Pats were riding a months-long unbeaten streak when they were heading into the Colts game last year in the playoffs. And what was the dominating story? Certainly not the nearly unbeaten Patriots. Nope, Payton Manning. I'll agree that most New Englanders like to circle jerk around the notion that we're givin the shaft by the media. But with the Pats, it's normally true.

If they really wanted to have Chavo lose to the TE kid, why didn't they build an angle that could have carried over for the week or two until the kid is healthy enough to wrestle. (unless, of course, that he's as badly banged up Nowinksi, and they're worried that it'll take him a while to get 100%). Kid comes out, tells Chavo that he accepts. Match is scheduled for later that night. Kid get mysteriously KO'ed backstage, and can't wrestle. Match is postponed til next week. It's that easy. If he's so badly hurt that he won't be ready next week, have Chavo chicken out to buy another week or 2, as needed. Unless they were just so bent to get the belt off of Chavo that freaking minute.

They have been too busy sucking tom brady's balls to do that recently, probably him. And that'd be the same Tom Brady that ESPN never mentions as one of the better QBs in the league, right? If you wanted to pick a white QB to say that they blow smoke up his ass, why not pick Peyton Manning?

Well try harder, 'cause in terms of rudeness Boston is Quebec's bitch I actually couldn't disagree, most of the rudeness that I've encountered in Quebec has been in French, and thus sounds about as rude (or intimidating) as a little girl walking her puppy. But it'll be a cold day in Hell before anyone from Boston allows someone from Quebec call them a bitch. (I was going to say a "cold day in Quebec", indicating that Quebec = hell, but then realized that it's often cold in Quebec and that would ruin my point.) Let me know the next time your short bus is rolling into my city; I'll make sure the rudeness meets the imposing levels set by your Canadian brethren.

I thought that Bonds said that he only cares about beating Babe Ruth's 714, and not Aaron's 755. So if he's not above Aaron, he might still retire. But, more importantly, who's nutts will ESPN lick 24x7 if/when Barry BALCO is retired?

Exaggerate much? And are the Yankees home or away that weekend? Because how bad will AS freak out if his beloved Yankee Stadium is tarnished by this??

I'm close to giving up on WWE forever...
nl5xsk1 replied to UseTheSledgehammerUh's topic in The WWE Folder
I can't say that I disagree with your post, but I can't say that I fully agree with your points, either. But there is one thing that I need to comment on: Do you really think that's the truth? That the WWE decided to intentionally destroy the credibility of the person that they've built the last 5-6 monhts of storylines around? Even HHH, in all his self-serving glory, didn't do the run in to 'destroy' anyone's credibility. It set up the next few weeks of storylines, and then one of the big 'money matches' of the next PPV. To say that it was done purely to screw over Benoit is a farce. -
With more than 80,000 votes cast, it's decidedly in one athletes favor (I'm not going to say who, just in case people want to be surprised.) But, suffice it to say, it's not even close and I'm not even a little surprised.

What the fuck are you talking about? How can a hit be "totally unnecessary in the heat of the game"??? What's a guy going to say, 'well, we're in OT and I have a chance to hammer a guy with a legal hit. Nahhh, better not, why would my team want to have a short man advantage?" It was a hit that was NOT going to be called a penalty at that point in the game, and thus was legal and neccessary. My picks for the conference finals: Tampa Bay over Philly in 6: Tampa's healthier, and well rested. If Philly can find a way to muscle them around the ice, they'll have a chance, but so far physical teams have been outplayed by faster, finesse teams. San Jose over Calgary in 7: Just a guess, following my gut instinct. Infrequently does Cinderella make it through all 3 series (last year's Anaheim team being an exception, and they truthfully beat another Cinderella in the Conf finals, so it barely counts). And, yes, I recognize that a SJ/TB Stanley Cup is the NHL's, and hockey fans' in general, worst nightmare.

Ripper, why can't we just agree to disagree about virtually everything?? And take back that commie talk - unless not liking Eddie Murphy is un-American. If that's the case, Canada here I come. (note: if Canada doesn't accept me either, I'm headed to England or Amsterdam)
-
(puts head down in shame) I haven't seen Coming to America. So, most likely was just played by a fiddle. But it'll be a cold day in Hell before I ever sit through another Eddie Murphy movie that doesn't also show Jamie Lee Curtis topless.

There's a thing in this past weekend's Boston Globe that indicated that Grapes was out (after TWENTY-THREE YEARS doing Coach's Corner) and that Hull was the one most likely to replace him.

Yes, the angle was based around Mel Phillips (I might have the first name wrong) putting on Funk's cowboy hat. Phillips was a black guy, and so Funk flipped out and pummeled him. Thus, the Funk-JYD feud was born. And, if my memory serves, Phillips was also one of the guys caught doing the naughty with underage ringboys, thus earning his pink slip from the WWF.
