    Comedy Central's 100 Greatest Stand-Ups

Ripper, if someone is funny only to a certain audience, they're not that funny. I've seen my share of black comedians that made me laugh my ass off (Chappelle, Redd Foxx, Rock, Murphy, Pryor, hell Mario freaking Joyner was a riot back in the day). They play to a black audience, but are funny to those of us that aren't black. Wanda Sykes is not funny. It's like Jeff Foxworthy and those three other guys that did that redneck equivalent of 'the kings of comedy' that's on Comedy Central all the time. They're target audience is rednecks from the south (which I'm not). And they cracked the good ol' boys up, but not me. I'd put Wanda and Cedric in that category, too: funny to their target audience, but not funny enough to be in the top 100.

Books you're shamed to admit that you read

Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenence ... every wanna-be intellectual in my high school class claimed to have 'read it and loved it' so I always used to shit all over it (not literally, mind you). But then in college I had to read it for one of my english classes. So, after years of using it as a punch line, I had to suck it up and read it.

So I'm going to Boston next week

Kotz, I live here ... I'll do it for you sometime. Let me get drunk enough, and consider it done.

    Your Top 5 Artists

Yes, I think that there's a big time difference. There are four bands on my "all-time list" of favorites that I haven't listened to in months. But if I was going to get stuck on a desert island and got to pick the music of 5 acts to take with me, both of them would easily make the cut. So, they're not in my current, as-I-type-this top 5 but would be in my all-time, regardless-of-time-and-date top 5. The ones in my current list are the ones that I find myself listening to the most, right here and now, and thus would list them as my current favorites.

    Happy Birthday Hitler

Where's all the Columbine jokes, though? It's easier to mock the scatologia fetishist that's been dead for 60 years than it is to mock a modern mass killing/suicide. Wimps.

So I'm going to Boston next week

Since it's a school thing, I'm presuming that you're not old enough to drink ... so that takes bars out of the equation. I'd either go to Harvard Square or to Newbury & Boylston Streets. To get to Harvard Square take green line inbound to Park ST, then red line outbound to Harvard. Or just walk from Faneuil Hall to the Park street T-stop and take the T from there. Tons of good stores (especially record stores) and a shit load of people to gawk at. I'd recommend walking to Newbury St, through the Commons and parks and whatnot. Less shopping to do there (things are wicked expensive) but there's tons of hot Euro folks to leer at while they overspend at the stores there. Skip the Duck tour and the Freedom Trail, not worth the effort.

    Comedy Central's 100 Greatest Stand-Ups

Ranked too high (overrated): Chris Rock, Roseanne, Ellen Degeneres, Ray Ramano, DL Hughley, Dom Irrera, Wanda Sykes. Ranked too low (underrated): Steve Martin, Eddie Murphy, Jon Winters, Bill Hicks, Kinison, Redd Foxx, and I'd be tempted to put both Bobcat and Howie Mandel a little higher. Also, where's Saget? Just because he was horrible on Full House and AMHV doesn't mean that he wasn't funny ... I've seen some Saget that was laugh out loud funny.

    New Worst Episode Ever

wrestlingbs, keep in mind that the person who wrote the scathing review of the episode is also the guy that started the thread stating it was the worst episode ever. Somehow I doubt that he's the most impartial reviewer ever. The repeated usage of 'jerkass' could be a hint. And again, NO ONE ELSE has agreed that the intention of this quote was to circle jerk over Futurama. It's his opinion, and seemingly his opinion alone. On an unrelated note: Doctor Mik, I'll concede that CYE wasn't the best choice, but I don't know many other HBO series and I wanted to stick with the same network for my comparison. I could have picked virtually any prime time series, and in retrospect probably should have. But I still stick with my point, which is someone can skip half the episodes and not be lost in the plot - the whole season might have a theme, but it's not like if you miss 2 weeks you'll be confused about what's going on.

    Ty Law arrested

Pats should keep Law, but barely ever play him. Make him a special teams only guy, or a nickel-back at best. The guy's ego is out of control, so what better way to bust his balls than to leave him sitting on the bench while the team wins without him?

The 2004 Stanley Cup Playoffs thread

While I definitely think the Bruins are the better team, they were hugely outplayed for most of the series, and thus the more deserving team won. I really can't express how disapointed I am in my team, they had the strongest team that they've had in a decade and were lucky to stretch the series to 7 before getting eliminated. Sullivan should be fired; how does he wait until game 7 to change lines, and still not change their attack?? All season the B's got killed by fast teams that could outrace them to the puck to clear it out when they attempted to dump-and-chase it in ... and that's exactly what the Habs did all series. Hal Gill should be traded for a bag of pucks, if there's a team dumb enough to give up a bag of pucks for him. You either play the man or play the body, don't just shepherd the player behind the net and then let him go. Do something to tall idiot. The B's can't get rid of him fast enough to appease me. Most of the forwards should be purged: to expedite it, I'll name the players that shouldn't be cast aside .... Thornton (broken ribs buys him one more postseason, but if he no-shows again next time he should be dealt). Nylander. Samsonov (and I normally hate Sergei, but he plays well with Nylander). Bergeron. Green. Lapointe. Every other forward can go. Congratulations to the Canadiens and their fans.

    New Worst Episode Ever

I actually thought that the Groening was hyped as the 'creator of Futurama' was a crack at the fact that the show bombed. He's famous for 3 things (Life is Hell, Simpsons and Futurama) and one of the 3 did bad, yet that one is the thing that he was hyped as doing. See, the joke is thus on him, not an attempt to salvage Futurama. Plus, I doubt that he has a hard time sleeping seeing how one of his creations is the longest running comedy in TV history. In the grand scheme of things, Family Guy is a footnote in TV history (as is Futurama) while the Simpsons will be remembered. And to call Skinner/Krabapple a 'shining point' of the series is a bit of an exaggeration. Strike that, it's a huge exaggeration. Lastly, to look for character development in a cartoon series that's basically a non-series is foolish. (I don't know if there's an actual word for it, but by "non-series" I mean that each week doesn't necessarily lead into the next. By this defintion: The Sopranos would be a series, Curb Your Enthusiasm would not.)

John Carroll is the biggest pussy on Earth

Damn that Carroll for wanting the NBA to enforce their own rule! Regardless if Artest only went a few steps off the bench, the rule doesn't say that a suspension is to be handed out for players that go more than 10 steps off the bench. Or 5 steps. It says that leaving the bench is a suspension, and evidently that's what Artest did. It looks like the Celts will only lose by 10 points in game 2. Save the tears and namecalling for a series that matters.

    Ty Law arrested

Oh, yeah, those "overzealous police" officers for trying to pull over a guy for a lane violation. Regardless if he was racially profiled or not, if he didn't act like an obnoxious prick he'd have gotten off without a problem. Methinks he had to hide his extacy before getting handcuffed.
  15. I don't remember his user name, but someone always posts links for the IWS in Misc. Promotions, and a bunch of the guys there take crazy glass/barbed wire/etc type bumps without shirts (one actually takes the bump in only a thong, if I remember correctly)

    Which Godfather Film Is Best?

I voted for 1 because the poll is which one is best, and I think that one is better than 2. If the poll had been "Which one do you like better?", I'd have voted for 2. Number 3 wasn't in the running regardless of which poll was being conducted; I don't think it's terrible or anything, it's just terrible when compared to parts 1 & 2.

    Posts in consecutive threads

Am I the only one that gets ashamed (for lack of a better word) to have my post be the most recent in multiple threads? Like, just now I posted in 3 different sports threads, so the top 3 threads had: 16th April 2004 - 08:29 AM Last Post by: nl5xsk1 (well, the other 2 times were 8:19 & 8:12, but it was 3 consecutive nonetheless). I just kept hoping that someone else would reply to one of them, just to break up the monotony. I also hate it when I've posted the last post in multiple folders, so the nl5 name is the Last Post Info: in multiple folders. Am I the only one? Am I that crazy??

it's just a NBA rookie of the year poll.

Even thought Carmelo has had (arguably) the better rookie year, it'll be hard for the voters to see anyone other than Lebron, what with their mouths fully wrapped around his dick like is has been all season. This year, Carmelo > Lebron.
  20. If Foley had come out to Cactus music, and then neglected to use Socko, two of the guaranteed pops that the WWE expects from him would be missed. And, as much as smarks hate to admit it, the fed is really looking to appease the vocal majority compared to keeping consistent with a character.

The 2004 Stanley Cup Playoffs thread

I was sitting in the cheapest of nose bleeds for last night's game ... I ended up sitting with some friends in section 303, row 14. It's second from the wall, so they're about as bad as can be. I normally take the elevator to the 6th floor and sit in that fancy restaurant, or in some of the premium seats, though. How about you, WB4:20? Where were you sitting?

    Canada 'sells US high-grade pot'

I personally think that legalization is a bad idea ... but I am in favor of decriminalization. Make it so that possession is legal, but only if you have proof that you bought it from a pot-store (pot store being comparable to a liquor store). Growing or distributing pot would still be illegal, so people couldn't just get it from the neighborhood grower. And I think that I read somewhere that a bunch of the tobacco companies had registered names to be used if/when pot was legalized/decriminalized ... but it might have been one of those urban legend things. Does anyone else remember hearing anything like that?

    Canada 'sells US high-grade pot'

I thought pot was still illegal because of how much money cigarette companies feed to politicians, and the reasoning is that people buying pot would mean that they'd be spending less on smokes.

    Worst Uniforms of All Time

It sucks to say it now that 'retro' is so cool, but I actually really like the flying V/Cooperall era for the 'Nucks. As I said in an earlier post, that color scheme was pretty common and popular in the day, especially compared to now. I'd love to have a Tiger Williams sweater from back in the day.

The 2004 Stanley Cup Playoffs thread

The goal that bothered me most was the 3rd MTL goal ... the only reason the Hab had such a breakaway was because Thornton's stick got caught between the ref and the boards, which first caused him to lose control of the puck, then caused him to be a step behind Zednik (I think it was Zednik) and then ultimately forced him to pursue him without a stick to poke-check the puck with. I feel like the officiating in this series has fluctuated between horrendous and intrusive. I can't even count how many times an official has gotten in the way of the puck after it's been cleared - for both teams, too, so it's not just me being a whiny Boston fan.
