    Why ESPN sucks

If they want attractive anchors/personalities, they should steal either Lisa Hillary or Jennifer Hedger from Canada ... both are very easy on the eyes, and do a good job of reporting sports. http://www.tsn.ca/personalities/images/lisa_hilary.jpg http://www.tsn.ca/images/pictures/sc/hedger.jpg And, Damaramu, I'm kind of confused by your complaint ... you say that it's lazy to keep the same teams on top, but then say that it's stupid that they slightly changed them. The two thoughts seem to contradict each other. The fact that they're different eliminates the 'they're the same' argument. Or am I mis-reading it? (not a flame, a real question)

    Canada 'sells US high-grade pot'

They're downplaying good American pot. I've had BC bud and it's not the be-all, end-all that people think. It's certainly not as good as in Amsterdam. Hell, I'd put the Cough from Ft Collins CO up against the best BC and feel pretty confident.

    NJ wants an MLB team

Maybe instead of moving the Expos to NJ, they could just build a stadium there and have the Mets and Yankees play 20-30 games a year there. Maybe that'd appease the fans of NJ. And, yes, I'm kidding.

The 2004 Stanley Cup Playoffs thread

The good, the bad, and the ugly from last night's Bruins-Habs game. The Good: The Boston fans not booing the Canadian Anthem. I was at the game, and there were a few drunken idiots booing at the start, but they were quickly quieted and then drowned out by cheers. So help me, the Montreal drunks better show the same respect for our Anthem. If you're being out-classed by people from Boston, you're pretty low class. The Bad: Raycroft playing one of his worst games all season. I have no doubt that he'll come back and play well in game 6, but that's got to be a blow to the ego and self-esteem. Hopefully he makes a few huge saves early on Saturday and thus gets back into the zone. The Ugly: I was going to say the inconsistent officiating, but the Habs insistence on diving and flopping everytime that they're brushed is a fucking joke, and is wicked bush league. Even Kovalchuk would be ashamed to dive as bad as the Canadiens have been.

    Oh Good Lord.

Not that I'd ever defend Pedro, but I don't think that he pushed an old man to look masculine. He ole'd him and threw him down because the old man charged him. If he wanted to look masculine he would have kicked his geriatric ass right there on the field.

    Oh Good Lord.

Yes, I need to see the actual puck. Seeing the puck is advantageous when you're trying to see if it stays onsides. Or if it crosses the goal-line. Or if it was played with a high stick or passed via a handpass. Just knowing the puck is near the blue streak isn't good enough when you're actually trying to follow the game. But FOX only cared about babying new viewers, not taking care of people that actually like and follow hockey.

    Oh Good Lord.

note to self::: buy whatever it is that Kotz is high on, and use it all weekend. The fact that the blue streak made it impossible to find see the actual must have been forgotten. I especially liked it when the blue streak (or red for slapshots) gave the impression that the puck was either levitating a few feet above the ice along the far boards or had just traveled through the net. Some 'advances' aren't really worth the cost or effort. The only time that features like the streak, or the crap that they're debuting on Fox this weekend, should be used is for replays. If they add crazy crap during the play, it'll only detract from the game itself.

The 2004 Stanley Cup Playoffs thread

Yes, I've watched all 4 games so far. And the B's D have more shots on net, more assists, more points, and a better +/-. The first game was (almost) all Bruins, the 3rd (first in MTL) was (almost) all Canadiens, and the other two were pretty evenly played. Both teams had stretches where they controlled the action, and neither team had too extended of a stretch where they dominated play. I still think game 2 only went to OT because of the gift 2-man advantage that the Habs got that game. The only Habs d-men that I'd want on the Bruins are Souray and Quintal, and the only B's d-man that I'd like to get rid of is Gill. (although I will admit that O'Donnell is having another crap-tacular spring). And count me among those that were surprised that Sundin allowed himself to slowly slide feet first into the boards. Even if he was already hurt, common sense is to NOT allow yourself to slide into the boards in such a vulnerable position. I'm sure that he'll be fine for game 5, but could have really messed up his leg and thus messed up the Leafs Cup-chances in the process.

    Oh Good Lord.

No, I've been to plenty of Sox-Yanks games in April, and May and June for that matter. I've even been to Sox-Yanks games at the Stadium (but I do have to admit it was inthe early 90s when the Yanks weren't as good). It's just that I realize that what happens now has minimal effect on what happens at the end of the year. It's not until post-All Star break can games really be considered crucial or intense. Your scenario shows that being drunk in the bleachers is 'intense' regardless of who's playing on the field. This upcoming series is only borderline more important than the games that they played in spring training.

    Where is Stacy Keibler?

Big ass? What the fuck are you high on? If her ass is 'big' than Molly's has to be considered enormous. I understand when people say that Stacy is small in the chest deparment (at least compared to the other 'divas', but compared to normal women she's pretty average) - but to say that she has a big ass is a farce.

    Hippies.

Young hippies don't really exist anymore ... the hippy scene and the skater/raver scene kind of blended together to create just a messy, baggy pants and crooked hat wearing army of idiots. I luckily escaped Colorado and that whole scene just before the dam burst. The people described sound more emo than hippy.

    drug testing

It also depends on how much of a fatty you are ... like the Agent said, it's fat soluble. If you dont' have much fat for it to get 'stuck' in, you'll be better off. If you're breaking the scales everytime you stand on one, you're more likely to have pot stored in your system. If you can make one of those table footballs, you can pack cocaine in a much more convenient way than a tied up baggie (as suggested earlier) ... or so I read on the internet, officer.

Boston's defense > Montreal's defense. Both offensively and defensively.
  15. nl5xsk1

    Oh Good Lord.

As much as America is ready for the collective circle jerk over the Yanks-Sox series, to say that any game is 'intense' when there's still 150+ games left in the season is a joke. That's like saying the first big third down stop in the Pats-Colts season opener next year is 'the most crucial play so far this football season' ... the season is just too long for ANYTHING to really matter right now. And I know people are going to counter with "potential tiebreaker" or "set the tone for the season" bullshit ... guys, the regular season doesn't end for 5 months. Nothing in April is "intense".

    Why ESPN sucks

My response to those who support the "hockey gets shitty ratings so is shown enough" mentality. I think the exact opposite is true: "Hockey isn't shown enough, so it gets shitty ratings." Why would your average sports fan watch hocky when they don't know the players, don't know the teams, and don't know what's going on? If ESPN dedicated as much time to hockey as it does to the NBA, ratings would improve. The average fan would learn to appreciate a big hit, or a pretty goal, or an amazing save. But instead, all ESPN shows is the Bertuzzi incident. Give more coverage, show the average fan the skills of Iginla, or Nash, or Forsberg. Or the goaltending prowress of Brodeur or Belfour. Will it ever be as big as the NFL or MLB? No. But it would be bigger than a tractor pull or Arena football. It's a catch-22 when you think about it. They don't give hockey the attention that it deserves, so not many people care about it, and since not many people care about it they don't need to give it much attention. (repeat ad nauseum) On a related tangent, I like how ESPN claims that they bumped Wednesday night hockey because "showing games every week would saturate the market and then less people would watch" ... and then immediately play NBA 3-4 nights a week and MLB 6-7 nights a week. Fuck ESPN.

    Why ESPN sucks

Why I hate ESPN: Too much baseball. Too much NBA basketball. Too much NCAA basketball. Not enough hockey. Sportscenter wasting time on "Budweiser Hot Seat", Outside the Lines-type stories, that horrible SAT-inspired test. (I watch Sportscenter to see highlights of yesterday's games and get previews of today's games. Not see Clinton Portis guess who won the British Open last year). Playmakers - I don't turn to ESPN to watch fiction. Too much World's Strongest Man; Not enough World's Strongest Woman. That's it ... for now. I'm sure that I'll have more later.

Best Team or Group Nicknames in Sports

One vote for the worst nickname: Denver's "Orange Crush" defense. Because nothing is as scary as an articifial colored and flavored soda.
  19. I keep hearing that they're going to have to shut the Fleet for up to 8 weeks prior to the DNC to make sure it's secure ... what about the Bruins or Celtics home games? If either make it deep enough in the postseason, the finals would be played within this 2 month window ... just our luck, the B's will make the Cup for the first time in 14 years and will have to play their 'home' games at the Centrum or in Providence. It's times like this that I'm glad I know most of the backroads of Boston. I can just get off in Somerville or Cambridge and take the T, or just take the roads that circumvent the heart of Boston, and still get just about everywhere that I'll want to go.
  20. Maybe she partied a bunch of coke while growing up, and it messed up her nasal cavity. It wouldn't be too surprising to have a rich white girl from CT get involved in the devil's dandruff, would it?

Media post: Chris Benoit Vs. Sid Vicious

So unless someone is told "hey, this is special and you should react" then people are too dumb to know to react on their own?

    Ric Flair vs. Ricky Steamboat

"Tapping out" didn't really exist then ... people smacked on the ground all the time to show pain, gain momentum, etc. It was only when UFC became more visible did the act of tapping out become an accepted means of giving up.

Fergie from the BEP is more entertaining than this thread. White, Latina, Black, I don't care ... she fires me up. Makes their horrendous videos for their horrendous songs worth sitting through. (leans over and whispers 'thank you' to the mute button).

    BREAKING F'N NEWS!!!! BREAKING F'N NEWS!&#

I can almost understand them hyping up him passing Mays for 3rd all-time. (And I barely mean the almost ... if you're not reaching #2 or #1, then it's really barely worth getting a boner about.) But why did they make a big deal about him TYING Mays?? Tying for 3rd all-time is even less exciting than passing into 3rd place.
