It's actually neat how the NHL was dominated by dynasties for about 14 years ... Montreal from 76-79, Islanders from 80-83, Oilers from 84-90 (with the one offs for Calgary and Montreal). So, basically 4 teams won all 15 Cups in that stretch, including one team that only one once. So, it's 3 teams winning 14 of 15 Cups. Pretty impressive string of mini-dynasties.

Reason enough for me to vote for Duran Duran right there ...

29. I say I'm from Boston, but truthfully I've moved to suburbia and am just too embaressed to admit it.

Well, that isn't very good writing then. How is that bad writing? I think it's just the opposite. After I read a Palahniuk book, I want to re-read it immediately to see what clues were planted throughout the story that didn't make sense when first read, but would be self-explanatory after knowing the end, the 'catch', of the story. That a book would cause me to want to re-read it, compared to immediately throw on my bookshelf and not touch for months or years, is well written to me. (and I thought it'd be obnoxious to quote your whole post, so I removed the second half, but am responding to it now) ... yes, I understand that life doesn't have a plot, and thus D&C not having one was like everyone's high school experience. But I'm not watching a documentary, I'm watching a movie. Movies are supposed to have plots, not just a series of cool scenes strung together.

Matt Damon in EuroTrip cracked me up. Anthony Edwards in Revenge of the Nerds II: Nerds in Paradise.

Because having Langdon in the line-up is much more important than winning big face-offs. After the phantom calls against Boston in game 2, it's not surprising that some would go against the Habs last night. The fact that MTL's only goal in the second game came on a 2 man advantage with both Bruins penalties being questionable at best shouldn't be forgotten. And even Habs fans have to admit that Kovalev is borderline retarded to give up control of the puck in the 2nd OT in an effort to draw a penalty. If a call was going to be made, it wouldn't have been made until a Bruin got control of the puck anyways, so why not keep control of the puck and try to lead a break when Theodore left the net for the extra attacker? If I was a believer in karma, I'd be saying that this was karma coming back to bite the Habs. I'm not going to sit here and say that the Bruins deserved to win last night, but with antics like Ribiero's and Kovalev's, I'd be hesitant to say that Montreal deserved to win, either. Boston wins tomorrow night.

Steroids + attitude problems + over-exposure + overrated place in baseball history + my general dislike of ESPN fellating MLB far too often = me hating Barry Bonds with a passion.

Would you have been happier if the writer had said "Yankees fans have nothing to be miserable about" and thus exposing that all complaints from Yankees fans really are just bitching, moaning, whining or hot air (like all non-Yankees fans believe?)

There's a lot that I'd like to say about the movie but the first rule of fight club is don't talk about fight club. (Thank you, Thank you, I'll be here all week. Try the veal.) Actually, Mole, the reason that the end seems so rushed is because that's how all of Palahniuk's books end. It's a slow burn until the last chapter or 2, and then it all falls into place. And I think that the movie tried to capture that same feeling. All in all, I think that Fight Club is good, almost very good, but certainly not great. And certainly not in my top 10. The acting, like has been said, is great. The plot is definitely not the same-old, same-old that's so prevalant in movies these days. It certainly keeps my attention when I try to watch it. Like I said, good but not great. And I actually do find Dazed and Confused to be over-rated. People want to make it another Fast Times at Ridgemont High, and I don't think that it ever will reach that level. It's good, don't get me wrong, but it's far from great. The plot is non-existant and the acting is average. (The fact that Comedy Central plays it ad nauseum doesn't help it's standings). Overrated, but still a pretty good movie.

BwG, the Kraut Line was tough to omit as well, don't get me wrong. They just weren't the toughest ommissions for me. I also would think about putting Oates up there, especially if you're going to make it a full 4 lines of forwards. His time in Boston wasn't that long, but he was a-freaking-mazing while he was here. Also, Pete Peeters nearly got the nod for being the best B's netminder of my lifetime. As much as I love to watch Thornton play, he's not ready to crack the all-time B's lineup yet. If the next three/four years are as great as the last 2 have been, he's an automatic. But he's really only had a couple of great years, so doesn't make the cut. Lastly, good call on having Nifty on your 4th line. I remember watching the B's on TV-38 as a kid, shooting a tennis ball against the back door while watching Middleton score big goals for the Bruins. Favorite player of my youth. EDIT: And as much as I hated him as the GM, I'd give some thought to making Sinden the coach. Or maybe Grapes. Art Ross was great (thus the trophy named after him) but it's hard to ignore what Sinden did as the coach.

Far from it ... the old Cooperall 'Nucks uniforms are actually pretty sweet, I think. Ones like the brown Vancouver sweaters, or the orange Astros jerseys, fit in perfect for the era that they were worn in. Would they go over well now? Probably not. But in 20 years people will look at some of the 'best' ones now and think that they're heinous. (e.g. all the fucking teal uniforms ... it seems like half the new teams in the 90s wore a variant of teal, and they already look stupid now. Imagine how much uglier they'll be in 15-20 years?!?)

I know this makes me sound like a prick, but I was really hoping that Bonds wouldn't be able to do it, to pass Mays. I didn't want him dead or anything, but some serious injury that left him stuck at 659 forever. Now that he's passed Mays, I'm hoping for the same thing before he passes Ruth or Aaron. It just pisses me off to hear the jackasses on ESPN talk about when he breaks the records, not if he breaks them.

I lost a bunch of weight living in the dorms (Colorado State did NOT bring the edible goodness) but gained a bunch back once I moved off campus. Eating out or cooking for yourself is a good way to gain the lbs back. The best way to stay thin? Pick up a coke habit. You never want to eat, and can't really afford to anyways (unless you're slinging the blow, which is a different story altogether)

Shaved ... has been for the last 10 years now. I went from having a tall mohawk in high school (up to about 10" when spiked) to growing it all out for my hippie days. Once I got sick of having long hair, I bought some clippers and began shaving it, which is what I've done to this day. (did it just this morning, actually)

As much as I hate them as a team, calling the Flyers "Broad St. Bullies" back in the day was pretty cool. And I dug it when they called the Bruins line of Oates, Juneau and Ruzicka "The Bonanza Line" (Adam Oates, Little Joe Juneau, and "Hoss" Ruzicka)

One question, one comment ... People keep saying "why get rid of Kanyon and then bring back Christopher?" Guys, BC was squashed in just a few minutes, would you be that much happier having Kanyon in that role? If the best that they would have done with him is have him count the lights in a squash match, then maybe it's a good thing that he's gone. And after seeing Eugene for the first time last night, I thought he was closer to "Norman the Lunatic" than "Corky from Life Goes On." Is it a good, long-lasting gimmick? No But is it offensive? No, not nearly as bad as I'd thought it would be after reading everyone's reactions on the net.

Truer words have never been spoken. Even players on the Bruins make fun of them (Big Hal Gill did in The Hockey News a few issues back). There are others that are close (e.g. when the Padres wore the camo patterned unis a few seasons back) but in terms of out-and-out embarressing, no professional uniform is even comparable with the B's 3rd sweater.

Is there a mistake in the report, or was he really caught with a tenth of a gram of pot??? That's like dust, or a stem. It's such a small amount, it's not even worth reporting. I recognize that the pot was found among other drugs, but still, that's like nothing.

Happens to me every now and again, and I truthfully always thought that I'd f'ed something up and clicked the 'enter' at the wrong tab. Good to see that I'm not the only one that it's happened to.

The Habs fans booed the anthem 2 years ago, too ... for a city that tries to pride itself on being classy and Euro-esque, they really have low-class fans up in Montreal. Other than Philly, they're fans might be among the worst I've encountered while seeing games on the road.

The Andrew Raycroft-Jose Theodore matchup, which is what so many people said would be the Bruins downfall, has been severely tilted towards "Razor" through 2 games. Yes, I'll admit that 2 games is far from a full series, let alone an entire postseason. But Raycroft has stopped 56 of 57 shots through 2+ games, and the only one that he let win was on a 5-3 penalty kill (in which neither penalty should have been called). The officiating was fucking brutal in the Boston-Montreal game tonight, and is all that prevented Raycroft from having back-back shutouts to start his postseason career. And come on, Czech Republic, how do you know so few Sharks or Blues?? San Jose I can kind of understand, they basically reinvented themselves these last few years, but St Louis has half a dozen major names other than Macinnnis (Pronger, Weight, Tkachuk, Demitra, Osgood, Jackman, Weinrich). Even SJ has Damphousse, Ricci, Marleau and Nabakov. I understand that they're not all household names, but you've been posting in the hockey threads all year.

Voice Of Lisa Says Simpsons Movie Won't Happen
nl5xsk1 replied to EdwardKnoxII's topic in Television & Film
There's infinite contradictions about where the state might be ... that's the whole joke, so even the most anal of fans (the ones comparable to Trekkies or DeadHeads) can't 'prove' where Springfield is. For example, the episode where Bart becomes a Scout and him, Homer, and the Flanders' are stuck in the ocean, they show a map of where all the Krusty Burgers are. The ocean that they're in is the Atlantic, so they'd be East Coasters . But, like 2GOLD says, they drive to Vegas in a day. Which kind of rules out the whole East Coast thing. -
Rum for the girls (Captain & cokes = leg spreaders) Whiskey for the guys Tequila for shots Vodka for the bloody mary's/screwdrivers when you want the hair of the dog the next morning Maybe a barrel of decent beer for the ones that can't handle their liquor
