  1. Whether he's right (like this last one, where the guy hit his kid with a drink) or he's wrong (like when he went after the guy for pouring a beer on him) Eddie's got to realize that if/when he succeeds in pummeling someone for doing something, it's going to cost him his title, his push, and potentially his job. Let's say he punches the guy, and the guy gets seriously hurt, and then the guy sues Eddie, the WWE, the arena where it happened, etc. Even if the guy deserved it, in today's litigious society, he'll make a shit load of money and will cost the WWE a bunch of cash AND a bunch of bad publicity. Thus, the end of the Guerrero push. Eddie should just learn to let the police handle things, and keep himself out of trouble.

The official Dawn of the Dead 1979/2004 thread

Question for the people that complained that the movie wasn't scary: name the last really scary horror movie? I haven't been scared (or even really jumped) in a horror flick in like 20 years (no exaggeration, seeing the Exorcist as a 9 year old was the last time that I remember being frightened because of a horror movie). I thought it was wicked entertaining. The opening sequence (everything that precluded the opening credits) was on-point. There were enough funny moments to let everyone know that they weren't taking it too seriously. Sarah Polley is a little hottie (but looked a bit too young for the role that I think they intended her to portray). I'll definitely check it out on DVD when it's released, and would probably go check out a sequel. nl5 gives it a definite thumbs up.

Should they change the NBA playoffs

For a while I was a proponent of making the postseason 1-16, regardless of a team's status in the East or West, but the more I thought about it, the less I liked the idea. One of the things that makes the postseason so great is the rivalries. Teams like Toronto & Ottawa matching up every year in the playoffs made every series that much more intense (I guess Sacramento-LAL would be the NBA equivalent). Plus, these teams play 5 or 6 times during the year. To make it 1-16 would make it that much less likely to have repeat matchups, and thus detract from some rivalries. If a team like Detroit matched up with a team like Dallas, there's limited history of in-season matchups and no history of posteason matchups, so the rival wouldn't be there.

Vern, I agree with your winners up to the actual final game ... so, we agree that it'll be Maine vs. UMD for the title. But I've got my proverbial money on Maine winning it all. Yes, BC has the home ice advantage, but you saw how well that worked out for UNH.
  5. Just as the title says, what's the worst thing that you've ever done? (interpret "worst" any way you'd like). When I was young, a friend of mine came across some Cerebral Palsy sticks (sorry for the wicked un-PC term, but it's the only way to describe them) and we ended up taking turns walking down the sidewalk with them pretending to actually need them. The other one would then come out of nowhere and kick the crutch out, so it looked like a random attack on a challenged person. It was funny at the time, but in retrospect it wasn't one of my shining moments. Does anyone else have something that they view as the worst thing that they've ever done?

Final NHL Standings for the Playoffs

There are 4 teams in the Northeast division alone that are Cup caliber teams ... and the Sabres aren't much further behind. I wouldn't be shocked to see Ottowa, Boston, Toronto or Montreal go to the Cup, and would be more surprised if it wasn't one of those teams that got there.

Top ten Tag team combo move

Power & Glory's superplex & 'frog splash' combo.
  8. Yeah, that horrible smark luck has given us two pieces of shit holding the 'world' titles, right?

    March Madness

Bump ... Tonight's the night, first matchups begin in less than 12 hours. I'm guessing Maine, UNH, Minnesota and Dakota as the Frozen Four.

The OAO NHL 2003-2004 Season Thread

As long as the Bruins never, ever, ever wear those fucking horrible mustard yellow sweaters with the cuddly teddy bear on the front, I couldn't care less if it's white or black at home. It took me a few weeks to get used to, but now it's not a problem for me.

Okay, now what about Mike Richter?

I don't think that he should make it, but he probably will. To me, the HHOF should be reserved for the great players, not just the very good ones. And I really don't think we'll sit and tell our grandchildren about watching Richter play, the way we will with Gretzky or Roy. But, if Pat Lafontaine can make it, why not Richter? The one thing that might hurt him is how many automatic inductees are nearing retirement (or just retired): Yzerman, Messier, Roy, Francis, Robitaille. There might be too many better players that are eligible, and thus knock Richter down a bit.

Where does Martin Brodeur rank on the All-time

I feel that the people that want to call Brodeur the greatest ever are the same people that want to call Barry Bonds the greatest baseball player ever. It's like people always want the player from right now to be the best, and not someone from a different era. BwG, your statement that an oldschool goalie placed in today's game would be terrible is asinine. Maybe if you took a guy like Tretiak and just dropped him in, yes, he'd be bad. But he'd also be playing a style that's 180-degrees different than he'd played his entire life. If you took an old-school goalie and gave him a lifetime to learn a style of play (the butterfly) and gave him a nice full mask and huge pads, he'd be every bit as good as a modern goalie. Imagine how much quicker their reflexes had to be to make stand-up kick saves with small pads. Yes, I'll admit that the players didn't shoot as fast or as hard, but all things considered, to say that a goalie like Dryden or Tretiak, if given the same time to learn the style of play that the modern goalie utilizes, would be 'terrible' is a laugh. And how can you say that player development is minimal? New sticks make the puck fly that much faster. Year-round training makes the players that much stronger. (hell, the fact that they don't smoke in the locker rooms makes a difference alone). And the average size is up like 2" and 25 lbs. Lastly, how can you name the all-time great goalies and not name Plante or Vezina? They named the trophy after Vezina for a reason.

If the other option is having teams like the Predators or Lightning in there, I'd take the All-Canadian final 4 that you referenced, Flik. Because those teams wouldn't get much more attention or respect in the States than the Sens or Flames would. But for the good of the game, I'd love to see Boston, or Detroit, or Colorado or Philly there (and I hate the Flyers more than any other team in any sport, and only like the Avs a little more than that)

No Kenny Dryden? Or Tony Esposito? I'd probably put both above Brodeur.

Final NHL Standings for the Playoffs

Other than that debacle against the Wild a week or so ago, the only team that the B's look really bad against is Toronto. Makes me nervous about a potential playoff matchup. The good news, though, is that their good nights have greatly outnumbered their bad nights lately. The Bruins looked freaking awful tonight. And Czech Republic, I can see rooting against the Blues (firing Quenneville was bullshit) and the Flyers (hell, other than JR there's absolutely no reason to root for the fucking Flyeres) but why root against the B's? Local fans can not feel the love, what with Jacobs being such a dick, but for out of towners? The B's are a team that you should like, they don't play the trap, they play a fun style to watch, and they have a bunch of physical old-school players (Thornton, Boynton, O'Donnell, Lapointe)

And the suspensions continue ... http://www.nhl.com/onthefly/news/2004/03/208346.html Marty Turco gets 4 games for high-sticking Smyth. He'll be back on April 4, though, so he won't miss any playoff time. http://www.nhl.com/onthefly/news/2004/03/208344.html Jody Shelley gets 3 games for getting another game misconduct. He'll be back in time for the playoffs, but seeing as the Jackets have no chance of getting there & even if they did he'd probably be a healthy scratch anyways, his return date makes no difference. Marty Turco gets

The OAO NHL 2003-2004 Season Thread

Even though most Americans are pretty apathetic about hockey, and most Canadians are pretty passionate about it, you really need to have at least a couple of American based teams playing in the conference finals, and at least one in the Cup, for it to get any coverage in the US. And if the league is having a hard time existing with the present financial situation, imagine what it will do when the ABC/ESPN deal ends, and there's next to no incoming TV revenue. I can understand why people would like to see an all-Canadian final 4, but if it causes a huge blow to the future stability of the league, it seems like a pretty piss-poor idea.

Where does Martin Brodeur rank on the All-time

If I hadn't been at lunch, this is exactly what I'd have said. If I need to win a game 7, I'd want Brodeur in there only if it was behind a team playing the Devils trap scheme. If it was in a more open, end-to-end game, give me Roy (or Esposito or Dryden) over him any day of the week. All time, Brodeur is easily in the top 10, and top 5 if we're talking modern era only.

    Brock the football player

It's the same tests that they do at the combine ... they don't have a guy bench his maximum, they use the (relatively) low weight of 225 and have each player lift it as many times as they can. Thirty is a pretty good number.

Somebody make me like punk rock again.

First of all, I'm the one that brought up Crass ... and second of all, GG Allin is a cliche now. (well, technically he's a corpse, but ...) I'd consider GG to be more of a performance artist than a punk, plus his music was far more hardcore than punk, and musically all of his bands were atrocious. If you'd rather listen to the Murder Junkies or the Scumfucks than real punk banks, well, there's not much I can offer you to make you like punk rock again.

    The South Park/Chapelle Show Thread

Chappelle is on fucking fire lately. 'Think of the 5 greatests rappers right now. Dylan. Dylan. Dylan, Dylan, Dylan.' And the dumbfounded look. And choking Wyclef. At first I wasn't feeling the puppet show, but it grew on me once Chollie Murphy (written as pronounced by Rick James) did his song as the skanky muppet ... hilarity. Rumored Episode 3 title

The Return of the Jedi and The Empire Strikes Back aren't much better, but we've all gotten used to them. I don't see how either is noticably better than Attack of the Clones, yet everyone here is acting like that is bordering on horrendous. While I agree that The Creeping Fear isn't a great title, I don't think that it's as horrendous as a lot of people here seem to think. Especially if the feeling or emotion of the movie fit the title.

What the hell is going on with the violence in the league lately?!? Since the Bertuzzi incident (which was only like 2 weeks ago) we've already had the Belak & Messier suspensions, and then last night Ference threw a sucker punch in the PHX-CAL game, and Turco basically karate chopped his stick into Smyth's mouth in the DAL-EDM game. Even as a fan of the league - and someone who more than tolerates the fighting and sanctioned violence that exists in hockey - I'm beginning to get worried about the dirty image that the league is going to get.

    WWE Title Breakdown by Year.

Wasn't Russo pushing to have Jarrett break Flair's record for most world title runs towards the end of wcw? Isn't that why the title went Jarrett - someone - Jarrett -someone else - Jarrett - etc. for so many months??

4 Year Old Brings Crack To School

The police are full of shit ... $10,000.00?!? A rock of crack costs like $10-20 tops, and by that math, the kid would have had to have brought up to ONE THOUSAND rocks to school. How fucking big would his backpack have to be?!? I think maybe the value of the cocaine (by weight) could have been $10k, but not the value of the coke in crack-form. But saying that the kid brought $3,750.00 worth of crack to school doesn't sound as glamorous, does it??
