Still No New Deal Between RVD & WWE

Not to be overly cynical, but for all we know their moving RVD to Smackdown so they can edit out his pops and fan reactions to make it less meaningful if/when he leaves the company.

and they are getting stronger by the day. So Bruins fans...are you happy now that your GM is actually doing something this year I can't speak for all B's fans, but I'm ecstatic with the trades. Especially since MOC is saying that he's not done yet. If/when Bergeron and Samsonov get healthy, the Bruins will have 4 decent lines already: Knuble/Thornton/Murray Samsonov/Nylander/Bergeron Axelson/Ralston/Lapointe Zamuner/Green/Donato Add in another forward to replace Zamuner, and I'd have no problem with that as the 4 lines going into the postseason.
  3. MK and Ashley turn 18 in June of this year (I want to say it's either the 15th or the 18th, but I'm not 100% certain)

    Which artists/bands do you loathe?

To be 100% honest, I really haven't given them a fair chance to win me over. But when I first went out to Colorado I became friends with some kids that were big Tool fans, and when I told them that I wasn't a fan of the band, they played me a few songs. And I just wasn't overly impressed, and thought that they were pretty overrated. So, now I hear people raving about the band so much, it's pushed me from being apathetic about the band to disliking them. They'd normally not be a "Most hated band" candidate, but they are a band that I refuse to listen to when in the car, or when at someone's house or whatnot, and were a band that came to mind when I sat down to type my response. I just as easily could have put Nirvana or the Grateful Dead or Macy Gray in that spot.

Wow ... I don't remember saying that Theodore "hasn't been playing very good at all lately", but I do remember saying that the year that the Habs beat the Bruins, Theodore stood on his head. Hell, he won the Vezina & Hart; I don't remember hearing his name mentioned for either trophy this year. And I'm unsure how the rest of the league felt about Byron, but he was NOT loved in Boston. The nickname "Byron TheFold" was heard pretty often around the Fleet that year, and he was considered shaky long before the Habs exposed him to the rest of the league. You ask what I consider this year's defense? Much improved over that years. Certainly not among the league's elite, but to people that watch every B's game it is noticably better. The Bruins D was horrible that year, slower than the Habs forwards and generally not that good in that series. The three that are still around are either as good, or much improved. O'Do is about the same (and he was among the best B's d-men that year). Boynton was a rookie then, and is an all-star now. Gill has finally learned to play like a man (and yes, I do bitch about him, he's 6'7" and just now starting to play like he realizes it). And out of the players that are gone: Sweeney was old and past his prime (I can't fathom why the Stars continue to play him); McLaren was more interested in head hunting than playing D; and Brown, Norton & Rivers were horrible. With Gonchar and Slegr on the team, they now have 2 legitimate offensive defenseman that can move the puck up the ice (compared to the none that were there that year); McGillis plays the same game as McLaren, but better; and I'd take Moran or Jillson (who will both be healthy scratches more often than not) over Rivers, Brown or Norton. And while the Canucks "gave away" Slegr, the Bruins are glad that they did; 14 points in 21 games is nothing to scoff at. I'm not trying to say that the Habs would be an easy series ... I'm just saying that I'd prefer to play them than the Leafs. It's not meant to be a knock on Montreal, and I'm sorry that it seems to bothers you so much. But it's the truth. (hell, with the way that Luongo owns the B's, I'd rather face Montreal than Florida)

So you would prefer to finish 3rd and take on the defending Cup champs or would you rather place 2nd and take on the same team that upset you last time you made the playoffs? Hate to burst your bubble but jumping from 5th to 2nd or 3rd is not a guaranteed "much easier matchup". Actually, my bubble is far from bursting ... If I was given the choice of playing the Leafs, the Devils, or the Habs in the first round, I'd prefer either Jersey or Montreal to Toronto, and it's not even close. I really would find either of those teams to be a much easier matchup. Yes, the Bruins lost to the Devils in last year's playoffs, but the Bruins were barely above water when the playoffs started last year. They'd just fired Ftorek, and were going into the postseason with their GM behind the bench. They were a one line team that was easily stopped by Jersey's defensive strength (the Madden line as forwards and the Stevens pairing on D); this year Stevens isn't healthy enough to play, or isn't healthy enough to play at 100%, and the Bruins have more depth up front then they did last year. Even if they put their checking line on the Thornton line, the B's could counter with Samsonov, Bergeron and either Green or Lapointe. So, last year doesn't carry much weight in terms of being scared of the Devils this season. The Canadiens did NOT beat the B's the last time Boston was in the postseason (see the Devils series referenced above) but did beat Boston two years ago. Again, though, it's an entirely different situation this year, as that was when Theodore was standing on his head (to the tune of a Vezina and Hart) and the Habs had just gotten Koivu back from cancer (which provided a spark). Furthermore, the B's had horrible defense and shaky goaltending that year, and in my opinion, were among the least deserving #1 seeds in recent history. If Belfour can stay healthy, the Leafs are the team (out of these 3) that scare me, as a fan, the most. The Leafs are strong offensively (Sundin > anyone on Jersey or Montreal) and have good depth at the blue line (especially if Stevens is still banged up). You ask if I'd prefer to be the #3 seed and face the defending Cup champs or the #2 seed and face the last team that upset the team, and I'd say the latter. Montreal would be a very winnable series for Boston (not guaranteeing a win, but saying that I'd like their chances)

Morrisonn plus 2 picks isn't too much to give up for Gonchar IMHO. I'd have preferred if the B's could have moved Jeff Jillson instead of Shaone, but I'm not going to lose any sleep over Morrisonn getting traded. The B's have a fair amount of good young d-men even w/o Morrisonn. Hell, Boynton, Jillson, and Girard (if he can come back) is a pretty good young nucleus, and it's not like Gill or McGillis are old. The picks bother me more than the player, truthfully. With how open the Eastern Conference is this year, a trade like this could catapult a team from the 5th seed and a tough first round matchup to the #2 or 3 seed and a much easier matchup. If the Bruins can swing one more trade, pick up a legitimate top 6 forward, they'll be tough to beat in the postseason. Maybe a Messier, Francis, or O'Neill. Once Samsonov & Bergeron get healthy, that'd give the B's 3 good lines, 3 good D pairings and a goalie that has comparable stats to what Theodore had when he won the Hart & Vezina. And unless the Panthers sneak into the postseason, there's no way that Luongo should be considered a Hart candidate. I hate it when a team with a losing record has an MVP candidate. The whole point to the MVP is that their team would be lost without them, and I'm willing to bet that the Cats would have not made the playoffs even if Luongo had a shit year. Put him up for the Vezina, maybe, but not the Hart.

Teams hated on by the National Media.

The national media (e.g. ESPN, CNNSI, etc) gave OU the verbal fellatio for a long, long time, and thus most fans that otherwise were apathetic about them grew to hate them. Thus, most of the OU hatred you heard was from fans that were sick of the smoke that was blown up their ass, not from the media themselves. In terms of who the media is in love with, and who they seem to dislike the most: NFL: loves the Packers, especially Favre, & dislikes the Redskins, especially Snyder NBA: loves the Lakers & dislikes the Mavs (but mostly because they hate Cuban MLB: loves the Red Sox, Yankees, & Cubs, and dislikes ??? (I can't think of any team that the national folks seem to root against) NHL: does the American media even know that this league is still in operation?!? I'd say the entire league is disliked by the national media.

The B's picking up Gonchar more than makes up for that debacle last night against the Leafs. This is the first time that I can remember that the team made an acquisition at the deadline that actually could create some waves (Moran & McGillis at last year's deadline didn't really move me). Plus, since it only Morrisonn & a few picks, it didn't cost the team much of the future. Of course, if (when?) they don't resign Gonchar at the end of the season, I might feel differently. And I can't believe how bad the B's looked last night in Toronto. I don't know if it's that the Leafs just played that great, or the B's that horribly or what, but it's the worst the team has looked in a few weeks. Luckily, though, they have 2 more games this month against Toronto, hopefully they'll win those 2.

    Poets/Poems

One agreement, one disagreement ... Bukowski, indeed, rules all. I've managed to collect most of his writings (rereleases and compilations, obviously) and find that he's one of the few writers that I can read again, and again, and again, and again, and not get sick of. I have noticed, though, that a lot of the people that I've recommended him to have not necessarily dug him as much. Still, though, if someone hasn't read anything by Bukowski, I'd definitely recommend giving him a shot. And while I do think that most of the beats are overrated (Kerouac and Ginsberg especially) I am a fan of Burroughs. Junky is an awesome book, better than anything by JK or AG. But, I guess that I'm not a fan of Burroughs' poetry, which is what the original question was, so I might be off-track with this response.
  13. RE: the article that TheMikeSC posted ... Ignoring the fact that the molester in question is about as sick of a fuck as is walking the face of the earth, who the hell is so stupid as to email pictures of them doing such sick shit to the world? Oh to be a fly on the wall the first time that one of his new neighbors in the Grey Bar Motel find out why Mr. Jeffs is in the big house. Methinks that he'll be lucky to walk normal ever again.

I don't know. I was close, but got my racist baseball stories confused ... Schott was the one that referred to Dave Parker and Eric Davis as her "million dollar n*****s" Go to: http://www.scroom.com/SCROOMtimes/issue5.1/cheapseats.shtml and do a search under her name, it's right there.

What teams do you root for or follow?

How? I was thinking the same thing. The devils are inherently evil. That's why they got their name. Bastards. The Devils are evil because they play the most boring hockey in the league. The Flyers are evil because of Clarke, Brashear, and Primeau. Both deserve to hate each other, and both deserve to be hated by the rest of us.

What teams do you root for or follow?

I'll try to do justice to your questions ... No, supporting multiple teams is not an American thing really, but due to the size of the States it's easier to care about two teams in the same league (because there's a good chance that the 2 teams will never face each other.) For example, in the NHL, I live and die by the Bruins (had season tickets, travel to away games, watch every game on TV, etc) but like to see the Canucks and Oilers do well. Barring a matchup in the Stanley Cup, the Bruins will play each of those teams only once a year (sometimes twice, but never more than that.) and when they do play, the Bruins are the team that I'd root for So, the Bruins are the team that I truly support, and the others are teams that I like. It'd be comparable to rooting for two football (soccer) teams that play in different divisions; you know they'll never play so it's not an issue to like them both. And I have no issue with people 'choosing' to support a certain team, even if it's not the one closest to their birthplace. I have friends from Chicago that hate the Blackhawks because they hate the owner, and have chosen to root for other teams. And when I was younger I rooted against the local teams because of the fact that my parents, who introduced me to a love of sports, weren't local to Boston and thus rooted for other teams ... so, I rooted for the teams that they rooted for. Now that I'm older, I tend to root local.

    Serial Killers

IDRM, I think it'd be overkill to quote your entire post just to say thanks, so I'm skipping the 'quote' part and just saying thanks. I agree, it's hard to tell what's the truth and what's been exaggerated to sell books or increase hits on a webpage. Regardless of how much was true, Fish was crazier than a loon, and deserved to die for killing kids.

In a situation that none of us ... and I really mean none of us ... predicted, the TAMPA BAY LIGHTING (!) would be the top seed in the East if the playoffs started today. This is the team that like 3 weeks ago I was hoping the Bruins would get to face in the first round of the playoffs, and now they're leading the conference. (of course, they're also the only team with a better record than Boston in the last 6 weeks or so). If the playoffs started today, the first round would be amazing: Tampa Bay vs. NY Islanders Ottawa vs. Montreal (matchup of Northeast rivals) Philly vs. NJ (matchup of Atlantic rivals) Toronto vs. Boston (matchup of Original 6 teams & Northeast rivals)

    Serial Killers

That's a myth. I believe, though I'm not 100%, that Code Adam is also an urban legend. If it's a myth, IDRM, then it's a myth that's overtaken the reality. A google search comes up with at least half a dozen legitimate articles that reference the fact that it took 2 attempts to finish his execution b/c the chair short circuited. And I remember reading a book about serial killers a few years ago (that listed the most famous serial killers of all time, up to then) and in that it referenced the chair short circuited. If you could/would, show where you saw that it's a myth ... if it's not true, I'd love to see that fact in writing somewhere. Until then, though, I'm sticking with my belief that it's reality.

    Clinton Portis to become...

Portis is a good back, and will most likely have a good season ... but there is NO WAY that he deserves to be the highest paid back in the NFL. I could see him rushing for 1000-1200 yards next year, but I would be willing to wager that he doesn't come near the yards that he had with the Broncos. Portis will be an improvement over what they had, but the 'Skins drastically overpaid.

    Serial Killers

*LMAO* That was great. Maybe if he had Ben Stiller's help! Andre often tore people open with his bare hands. You'd be punching him in the face and he would be busy trying to rip through your abdoman ignoring your punches. The amount of police it took to restrain the man was absurd. Where did you read that Citizen X had such strength? I'd thought that he was actually a docile, cuckolded man that preyed on children to ensure that he would be able to overpower them. And normally used either a knife or his mouth to tear into the kids, not his hands and whatnot. And, lastly, that he was in the cage while on trial more to protect him from the victims families, rather than to protect people from him. I admit that I didn't read the crimelibrary stuff, the article was huge, but I had read some books on cannibal killers and they portrayed Chitatilo very differently than what you're describing.
