The thing that I find so fucked up about the 15 year deal is how over-the-top & random it is. It's not like there were a bunch of 10 or 12 year deals and then this one was just a little bit longer. It's pretty much 2x or 3x longer than any other deal I can think of ... I mean, how many recently signed contracts are for more than 7 years?

That someday I'll actually do some of the horrible, maniacal things that I think about doing, and that the subsequent media coverage will embarrass my family and friends.

I specified white, suburbanites because I am one. So I feel like I have a little more leeway to comment on what makes sense & what doesn't. In regards to the original question, no I don't worry about athletes not caring. As long as they're helping the team that I'm rooting for win, I couldn't care less why they're doing it or how much they care about it. If a player's apathy grew to the point that it was affecting their play, and thus the team's chance of winning, then I'd start to be more concerned. (probably still not the point of "worry", but I'm just being anal at this point.) In regards to the tennis hotties sub-conversation, Hantuchova & Hingis are both really hot. Maybe not "model attractive" in the Stephanie Seymour/Elle MacPherson mold, but attractive enough to do ads & modeling gigs without looking awkward or out of place. And I wouldn't be adverse to tapping Mauresmo - while she's not that attractive, she's certainly not a manbeast at the level of Davenport or BJ King.

The Steelers that won the Super Bowl did not have a very mediocre Charlie Batch lining up behind the center. The fact that Big Ben was out - especially with relatively limited notice before the game - made last night a very winnable game. Some of us had never written the Dolphins on, so really aren't writing them off now. I thought that they were at best an 8 or 9 win team (including at least 3 gimme wins over Buffalo & NYJ) and now I think that they're at best a 7 or 8 win team. They're not horrible, but they're not ready to be considered SB contenders, IMHO.

The best thing about the Hal Gill era here in Boston was the fact that Jagr once said that the Bourque/Gill pairing was one of the toughest to play against. And then the idiotic announcers kept saying how tough it was for Jagr to play against Gill, even long after Bourque retired. Ummm, I don't know how to say this, but the reason the Bourque/Gill pairing was tough to play against was NOT because of My Pal Hal.

Nicole Ritchie. Least her Dad is famous. I couldn't pick Hilton's parents out of a crowd even if you gave me their picture. Being famous for having a famous father shouldn't be considered doing something. It's still doing "absolutely nothing". Yes, Paris Hilton became famous for no reason ... she became famous pretty much because she was a teenage heiress. But she was covered in those crap magazines like Maxim & FHM, and then had the sex tape, and then had 4 seasons of The Simple Life, and then started a clothing/purse company that got huge in Japan, and then released an album. To say that she's not doing anything now to remain famous is inaccurate. Take tentacles out of the equation, and that's my kind of movie.

Michelle Rodriguez was written off because she was acting like a bitch on-set ... I think the arrest was just the straw that broke the camel's back. And Cynthia Watros was killed off because she had the chance for a bigger role on a different show debuting this fall. I don't think it was punishment for her arrest at all.

RE: the Pats not having a #1 WR. They didn't last year, or their Super Bowl years. They always have a unit of #2/3/4 guys that combine to equal a legit passing attack; not one special WR, but "the whole will be greater than the sum of it's parts" mentality. And - like Leena & Roy said - Ben Watson will truly be the first option for Brady. The Pats'll use 2-TE sets, and force LBs or DBs to cover Watson. RE: ESPN fellating Bush. This, so far, has been worse than the Favre, Manning, & Brady love, COMBINED, in my opinion. At least those guys have shown something in the NFL. For all we know, Bush will be another back that was dominant in college and just good (even very good) in the pros. Let's let him torch some NFL defenses for big gains before we christen the Williams choice a historically terrible one.

You know, for all the people that bitch & moan that the NHL was dumb for abandoning ESPN for OLN ... I was watching Survivor re-runs on OLN the other night, and they showed commercials for the NHL: "Coming in October". Giving a month's notice. Giving a month's worth of hype. Actually giving a crap to promote the league & it's coverage. Three things that ESPN never did. While it's a much smaller network, without the panache of the ESPN name, I'd much prefer the sport that I love be covered on a station that cares to promote it than be on the self-proclaimed "worldwide leader in sports".

Yeah, fuck her for not being superficial, and for being attracted to someone based (presumably) on their personality & sense of humor. How could someone be likable if they're not attractive. wildpegasus' best chance at getting a girl seems like it's based around being annoying enough that she finally says, "if I sleep with you, will you promise to never talk to me again?". And then he'd ejaculate at the very idea of getting laid and it'd be win/win for everyone. And, of course, by "wildpegasus" I mean the persona that he's created to amuse us all on TSM. So, since we've established how we have different forms of public transportation in our respective cities, I'm presuming why it sounded strange to me makes more sense. It wasn't a diss or anything, just a joke. And I had no problem with running into "peeps" from high school ... it's just that I went to school with those kids from anywhere from 4-12 years, depending on if I went to Elementary & Middle schools with them before HS. Enough was enough, I thought it'd be beneficial to meet people from other parts of the country. I worked, too, Leena ... and had a car ... and was a hippie. I was the best of all worlds.

I was just busting balls, EHME. No serious disrespect was meant. The bus thing sounded weird because in Boston the most prevalent form of public transportation is the subway ... so it sounded kind of weird to take the bus to school. Like more of a high school thing than a college thing. (technically a middle-school thing, but I digress) And the high school thing sounded weird because it's the last thing that I'd want to have happen when I started college. Going to college was - for me - the chance to get the fuck away from everyone I went to HS with. Literally 30% of my graduating class went to one of the UMASS schools ... so guess where I didn't even apply? I purposely only applied to schools that were far, far away just to be able to avoid the "hey, there's someone I know from high school!" thing. Again, though, I just trying to playfully bust your rocks a little bit.

I watch it to find out the latest fashion trends. How else would I know what boots to wear with my ass-less chaps?
