Boston was infamous for it's busing programs and the problems associated with it. My hometown was so white that there was a program called ABC (A Better Chance) that brought in minority kids from NYC to live in Andover and go to our school.

While I don't necessarily disagree with you, Coffey, I do have to wonder how Steve Austin would be above the 'has been' category. The guy was past his prime 4 years ago, and the rust associated with his neck issues & inactivity would make him even worse. He's the perfect example of a bad decision has been, IMHO. He might draw a one-time pop of a rating, but since he can't get in the ring and help them at all, I don't see any reasons that he'd be a good pick-up at all. Their best bets would be Lesnar & Jericho, and they're not going to get either.

Ahhh ... just went and read your blog entry about it. Sucks that the game was so poorly played. I know the Runners are a bad team, but thought that the Gulls were good, and figured the bad team would play up to the standards of the good team, instead of the good team playing down.

I do think that the English/Euro soccer scene (sorry, I'm on this side of the Atlantic, so I'm calling it by the word that is used over here) is a bit more aggro, hate-filled than the sport scene is over here. But I think that's because we (Americans) have more sports to follow & get passionate about, and also have much more distance between the cities. Other than the cities that are really close (NJ/Philly or Toronto/Buffalo, for example) you're just not going to see 3k fans from go to an away game. If America was as small as the UK (not a diss against the UK, just stating the fact) it might be more advantageous for 3k fans to jump in the car and drive to an away game. And, Porter, how was the ECHL game?

Most of these new "pop-punk" acts aren't pop-punk at all. They're pop, period. There's nothing punk about them. Buying some Hot Topix pants and wearing your hair all messy does not a punk make. Husker-Du, The Descendents, All, late-era 7 Seconds, late-era Agent Orange, The Hard-ons ... those are pop punk bands.

Remember how bad he/they sounded when they did that MTV Awards show a few years ago? Hopefully they sound better than that, or this will be the last time people get their hopes up for a GnR show. Quasi-threadjack, but CBGB's is in danger of closing/being relocated. The guy that owns the property is fucking them over rent costs or something ... "Bad Brains" (as in, Bad Brains but with Bloodclot instead of HR) is playing a show there as one of the last 'big' shows at CBGB's. Quasi-threadjack over.

You should re-word this. The music is legal, it's the fact that it's downloaded that makes it illegal. "I only illegally download music." would be more accurate.

I went through years and years of on-again/off-again depression spells before finally being diagnosed as having a chemical imbalance & couple of disorders (not getting into what, exactly, since y'all are really just strangers on the internet). I was given a script for Zoloft, and something else that I really don't remember, but I never bothered to get them filled. The knowledge that I had a legit imbalance is all I needed, and made it so I could just deal with the depression cycles when they were occurring. Yeah, I still get depressed occasionally but it's kind of like having a cold for me: I feel them coming on and prepare myself accordingly.

I voted no, but if this poll had been 'should UTSU be let back in?' I'd have voted no for that, too. Maybe the guy didn't deserve to be banned, but he's admitted in his little notes to Leena that he was purposely a troll. And trolling just for the sake of being a dick is worthy of being banned. So, it was a proactive banning, and it all worked out in the end. Why should we wait for it to ruin the board? If someone's trolling enough that it's noted, they should be banned. EDIT: ha ha, niskie can't spell "someone" ... and since I'm actually coming back to edit that, let me stress that I really don't care much one way or another if UTSU & the others are allowed back. My message boarding experience isn't any better or worse without them.

I don't think that banning threads/posts on Orton is the answer ... but I would like a little more mod-involvement to keep the threads on-subject and the posts at least somewhat fact-based. It seems that every thread on Orton (and Cena, for that matter) become "open mic at the Comedy Store" and most of the attempts at humor are just horrible. I don't care if someone wants to hate on a wrestler and say that they can't work, or suck on the mic, or whatnot ... but just to make it a never-ending string of "funny" posts is kind of pointless.

If new wrestlers brought comparable mainstream media attention as the break-out divas did, Vince would spend more time & money on new wrestlers. But seeing as people like Candice & Stacey brought more mainstream publicity as any active, living wrestler ... it makes more sense for the WWE to try and find new divas.

Not to take this too far off subject, but the fact that they gave Birchill the pirate gimmick shows how seriously they're taking him or how much they expect him to be a future superstar.

See ... without UTSU, we have NO ONE to calculate the won/loss records in predetermined competitions! This is bullshit. Pan down.

Again, I'm biased ... but he was not the only one to no-show in the Habs series during the last playoffs. And at least he had an injury as a reason. Having said that, though, yeah, he needs a big postseason to show that he's able to handle the grander scale of the playoffs. And having said all THAT, the awards are the regular season only. He can go pointless in a 4 game sweep, and he'd still be worthy of the Hart, IMHO.

Minor point of interest, just wondering what you all think about it: Bernard was a dentist before the crash ... and yet they showed his teeth last night, and they're among the worst looking ones on the island. Inside "joke" by the writers, or something we should keep in mind moving forward?

While I will admit to some bias as well (I am now, and always will be, a Thornton mark) ... but look at SJ's record before they traded for Thornton (8-12-4) and after they picked him up (34-14-7). Spearheading a 180-degree turnaround to a team's season is pretty much how I'd define having a Hart-calibre season. Yeah, Jagr has led the new-look NYR, but Nylander & Lundqvist are helping out a lot, too ... the people on SJ that are helping their turnaround are BECAUSE of Thornton, not just alongside him.

'Bout friggin time. Now lock up Deion Branch as well and then we'll be getting somewhere. Agreed ... for how much everyone around here (Massachusetts, not TSM) freaked out when Vinatieri, McGinest & Givens left, I'm much happier with the Pats keeping Seymour & Branch long-term, even if it meant losing the other three. Seymour is arguably the best DL in the game ... if not the best, at least one of the best. He would be irreplacable. As great as Vinatieri was/is, it's much easier to replace a kicker.

I thought UTSU was kind of a tool & social-leper, but not necessarily worthy of being banned. There are much worse posters, who are much bigger tools and suffer from much stronger social-leprosy that are still around that should have gotten the boot before him. Or, even better, we can stop that practice all together. It's a predetermined 'sport', wins and losses don't really mean a thing. Might as well keep track of what Jean Claude Van Damme's W/L record in his movies are.
