I thought that they were from NYC, but they might have originated in Portland and moved to NY to expedite making it big.

Not to be callous, but if Dungy gets the award it'll be more for his kid passing than for what the Colts did on the field. They're a very good team that would have won 12+ games even if they had a joke like Tice as a coach. The hardest thing he did was help them not get caught up in the undefeated streak, and they blew it in one of the first games that challenged that streak.

Randy should have actually assaulted the fan, like Eddie Guerrero did. Posters here were quick to defend him for that, so evidently physically attacking someone is Ok but calling them a cunt is not.

The Cramps are the shit, K. Even their not so good stuff is really good (e.g. Bad Music for Bad People).
-
I thought about saying Saban, but I can't see them giving him an award for making a bad team average/good. They tend to give it to guys that take average/good teams to the next level.

The thing that kills me about the Zhamnov signing is the fact that MOC seemingly won a bidding war with himself. I don't remember hearing that any other team was even after him, let alone willing to overpay by that much money. The worst thing about it: this combined salaries of Knuble & Rolston is almost 1 million LESS than the combined salaries of Fitzgerald & Zhamnov. Ouch. Lastly: the big rumor that I'm hearing around here is that the SJ trade was originally Samsonov for Stuart, but MOC upped the ante by asking for more players ... and thus SJ counter-offered that they'd want Thornton. Sammy/Stuart would have pissed me off, but not nearly as much as the Joe trade did.

As cliche as it is, my favore DK's song for calling people out is still Nazi Punks (Fuck Off), just because it was so appropriate for the jocks that I went to HS with that decided that wearing camo pants & shaving their heads made them 'hardcore' even though their idea of a good time was still jocko-jock, 110%.

Shhhhh. This is the WWE folder. Where facts don't get in the way.
-
I might be in the minority, but I'd rather be entertained than wowed with wrestling. Sadly, WCW provided better entertainment even though the WWE is the organization that's actually trying to be entertaining.

Reading these "comments that don't warrant a thread" threads is like having ADD ... you just have a neverending series of quasi-related thoughts, with no real rhyme or reason to them or each other. Oh, and to justify this being posted in the music folder, "The End of Silence" by the Rollins Band is a really underrated record. Makes me hate the pretentious nob that he became even more.

Leena brings up a good point ... what would ESPN do if the team that was facing USC was one of their golden boys, such as Notre Dame? How would they manage to verbally felate both teams simultaneously without offending them both?

Good insight, thanks for bringing oh-so-much to the table.

Am I the only one that finds Jim Carrey to be painfully overrated? To hear that a movie isnt as funny as Bruce Almighty ... man, Schindler's List was funnier than Bruce Almighty.

I don't remember the exact quote, or even who said it, so my post is going to lose some of it's oomph ... But I read a pretty good book about the history of American Hardcore music, and someone (I'll say either Greg Ginn or Dave Smalley) made a point about how that whole genre started because there were people that didn't like the carbon-copy sound that was so prevalent at that time. But then when these bands grew up/evolved and started playing a different, less hardcore style, they were shit on by the same fans that loved the fact that these bands had created a new & different sound. Basically, it was "push the envelope and sound different from other genres, but don't push it so far that you sound different than you did 3 years ago."

Man, three posts in and this thread has already gotten to the point that the sweaters are being discussed? Wow. As an American that hasn't gotten to watch one minute of a game yet, let me say that I'd be thrilled if the US team matches the pre-tourney hype and wins it all. The state of US hockey is not that great right now (too many way too old guys, too many way too young guys, not enough prime-of-their-career guys) so if the States can mix in the current young guys with the current Juniors ... well, we could be well represented in the not-too-distant future. Lastly: Why the Bruins didn't draft Bourque as a PR move became even more headscratching when he pocketed 5 goals. Such a poorly run organization.
-
He was on-point with this one, though, CG. They were having a 'roundtable' discussion about the most disappointing 1st half teams, and he picked the Bruins and just slammed them with brutal honesty. (MOC let a lot of good players go and replaced them with average-at-best players, signed Zhamnov and overpaid for him, and then on-top-of-it-all traded a very good -if not great- player for three "pedestrian" players.) In summary: I agree that he's got his weaknesses & biases, but I respected that he called out a GM rather than just pussy-foot around out of fear of offending MOC. Lastly: I'd KILL to watch the Juniors. But I'm here in the US, where we don't have the option of watching the games. Maybe if the US gets to the finals, I'll be treated to watching the games on delay at like 2:00 am.

Pedophile A: I work with a wrestling fan. What should I do? Pedophile B, C, D: /all sorts of semi-sarcastic, not helpful responses.

"too much time on their hands"?!? We're posting on a fucking message board, it's obvious that we have nothing but time. And it really doesn't take much time or effort to respond to a post.

Man, I used to love Quicksand back in the day ... primarily due to loving Gorilla Biscuits first, but they were still an awesome show way back when. Personally, I'd call Quicksand a hardcore band, even though they were more a punkish sounding hardcore band rather than a straight up hardcore band like Agnostic Front or Warzone. NYHC used to rule, before it went all metal

At least he competed in a PPV main event in TNA... I'd actually put DDP's WWF run in 2001 as a member of WCW. Lost to Taker's wife, jobbed left and right, and was gone (due to injury) in less than a year. At least he got a European title run out of it and a WrestleMania win over Christian. Like either of those mean anything, but still. The fact that he got a title run, and that you remembered so much of what he did, kind of negates it being a 'most forgettable stint', no?
-
He could wear the contacts until he's 1000 years old, and I'd be more happy with that than with a single day of him wearing those stupid devil horns like he did as a Filthy Animal in WCW.

^ Fit coming back isn't even the dumbest thing on the show I'm not even a Birchill mark but having Finley come back and allign with him & Regal would make sense. Put the two older guys as a tag team and keep Birchill as a singles wrestler. Plus, I've always been a mark for 6-man tag matches.

WCW '00 > WWE '05, at least in terms of keeping me entertained. I don't know if it was just a train-wreck mentality, but I used to enjoy watching Nitro back then. I haven't watched more than 15-20 minutes of Raw or Smackown in months. Bad and boring vs. worse but entertaining.

Great old emo bands: Rites of Spring Embrace (the Ian Mackaye w/the former members of Faith version) Dag Nasty
