    Emo/Punk/Pop Rock stuff...

^ Could be said for techno, metal, rap, R&B, boy bands, classic rock, etc. (and I include the "they all sound bad" and "intolerable nature" part of your post. 95% of the bands that fit into the genres I listed sound like utter shit to me, and to a lot of people.) Bands that sound the same (whether you like the type of music or not) are grouped together into a genre ... isn't that pretty much the definition of a musical genre? Modified for accuracy. Not all jam bands are unpleasant to listen to. Some are, some aren't. RE: patchouli oil ... even a lot of fans of the genre hate the smell of that crap. It covers up the smell of pot well, and BO well, so a lot of girls that tour wear it. But it's not like all of us that dig the music or see the shows wear it, or even like it. RE: jamming out ... I even like it when bands that aren't jam bands 'jam out'. I have some awesome AC/DC bootlegs in which they jam out, and it sounds noticably better than the studio version. Even I'll admit that taking a 3 minute song and stretching it to 30 minutes can sound like shit ... but I also note that it doesn't ALWAYS sound like shit, and more often than not does NOT sound like shit. And for the few of us that actaully like the music: http://stash.nugs.net/stash.asp ... you can listen to individual songs, entire shows, or D/L entire shows, for a shit load of <gasp> jam bands. I don't care for a lot of them, but some are really good.

There's something very funny about someone that borderline stalks Kylie Minogue say that 'jam bands' songs all sound the same. I don't know what the other jam band bashers listen to, so can't make comparable comments about your music. But, and just using Phish, if you're going to say "Carini", "Fast Enough For You", "Punch You In the Eye" and "Rift" all sound the same ... you're not really listening.

    Tony Dungy's Son Found Dead

Amen. Let me first say that Cartman - who probably didn't mean to come across so callous & crass - does not speak for Pats fans everywhere. As little as I like the Colts as a team, I have nothing but respect for Dungy as a person (I'm not enamored with him as a coach but that's another post for another thread). He's always said that his priorities are family first, God second, and football third. Even the idiots that called into sports radio today were respectful. Any ill-will towards the Colts ends on the field. And, re: Belichick's father's passing ... yeah, that got a lot of coverage on shows like NFL Prime Time and the Sunday shows that proceed and follow the NFL games. They had an interview in the can that was going to run a few weeks after he died, so they had mad footage to show. I don't think it got the PTI or Around the Horn moments that Dungy's kid got, though. Lastly, even on a wrestling message board, to compare the way the media treated Eddy's death to the way that they're treating Dungy's is a farce. When coach's sons dying (whether by accident, murder, suicide, WHATEVER) becomes a relatively common occurrence, the two will be comparable. For the time being, they're not.

Man cries at a Wrestling Convention

And events such as this put it right next to rodeos and NASCAR. I'd put both rodeos and NASCAR above pro wrestling, in terms of their acceptance in mainstream society. The average intellect of fans of all three sports is pretty minimal, in my opinion. Not that my opinion means much, Coffey, but I'd put you as less of a loser than cameron chaos or Morrissey's Quiff ... by a substantial margin.

    People Who Tailgate

I should have included in my original post that I was only thinking of back-roads and things like that, not the highway. Highways are built for faster cars on the left, slower cars on the right, so I have no issue changing lanes and letting people that want to fly by do just that: fly by. I'm normally not in a big hurry, Maniac. If I get to work, or home, or the bar, or whatever, in 10 minutes compared to 5 minutes, it won't make much of a difference in my life. And normally the people that ride my ass when I'm driving tend to be frat-looking fuckers that are probably in as little of a hurry as me, but feel the need to drive fast for no real reason. I'd rather be LATE for something, and mess with them, then speed up just because they want me to.

I don't know if I'm old-fashioned (well, as old fashioned as a guy that likes dog porn and girls with tats on their faces can be) but I don't think it should be too difficult to not cheat on your wife. Regardless of who's tempting you.

Man cries at a Wrestling Convention

^ Yeah, I saw that. I loved reading the comments thingy, and how badly everyone there slammed pro wrestling. It kind of puts into perspective how 'normal' society views wrestling & wrestling fans.

    People Who Tailgate

My top choice is to slow way the fuck down, to the point that it's blatant that I'm going super-slow on purpose. If I'm in a bad mood, I flip them off while doing the super slow-down.

Man cries at a Wrestling Convention

Dave beat me to it. I personally find it laughable that people cry over a baseball game or a basketball game ... but I'm not inclined to post a "lol, you're teh lame, dood" online just because someone did something that I find laughable. (And, no disrespect meant, 'dave', but I still think that you're a gimmick poster.) But if you're not: how are you that big of a fan of Konga the Barbarian?

    NFL Week XVI

Of course the Bucs are jobbers. If people gave the Bucs credit, they'd be giving New England credit as well ... and we know that can't happen. Thus, the Bucs suck and the Pats are overrated and horrible and blah blah blah.

The Spirit Squad (Ken Doane) - Coming to RAW?

I thought that was pretty clearly the point of my post. My name is TFP/Placebo Effect. I should leave this stuff to the professionals. Let's just pretend that this never happened.

Agreed. The aforementioned eye-candy is like 25 or so. She's most assuredly of age.

The Spirit Squad (Ken Doane) - Coming to RAW?

^ That's a positive thought. Thanks for bringing oh-so-much to the table. /doesn't really give a crap about Ken Doane //isn't smart, a mark, or a fag

Hey, now. Play nice. Besides, I only had one snaggletooth, and it's gone now, anyway. You're not helping. Sorry, Leena,I wasn't trying to be not-nice ... I probably should have worded my post differently though. But my intention still stands: I did dig the snaggletooth, so maybe you were right when you said that my tastes are fucked up. (on a side note, the eye-candy that I work with is getting her teeth fixed, which makes me sad. I'll get to enjoy the braces-era, but it's sad to think that when that era is over, her smile will be <shudder> normal.) And, vivi, I don't think all goths are that lame. Some are (fuck, A LOT are) but most of the people that are accused of being goths really aren't that gothic. You seem to have gotten stuck with a bunch of "Hot Topix Goths". In my mind, if you buy your goth-wear at a mall, you're not that goth.

I was going to fire back and defend myself, but I remembered that I was the one that said that I dug your screwed-up snaggle-teeth. So I guess that you're right. Guys, Leena's right: if you agree with my definitions of hot, you're wrong.

Goth gets a bad name from the people that act that way. Most people that society labels as 'goth' are more punk than goth, IMHO. I doubt that the girl that started this conversation listens to Bauhaus or actual goth music.

    Dixie Carter is

It's hard to give a full thumbs-up or down with only partial face-view ... but I'd say that she's easily hotter than Dixie. Even with the "silly hat" ... I dig shit like that on my girls, though. I also dig them much gother or punker than that. /digs out the SG Marie mohawk pictures

    NFL Week XV

I was, and you're right, Porter. I could have sworn that they only lost 1 game that year. I guess I could have sworn wrong.

    NHL Thread

I agree that the trap was killing the game, but completely reinventing the wheel with this no-touch defense isn't much better. I'd rather watch a 2-1 game that has contact than a 9-6 game with minimal hitting. They should have done more testing at the AHL level before implementing all of these changes. They might have been able to 'save' the game without making it into what it is now.

    NHL Thread

I'll reiterate a question that I've asked repeatedly: is it a good thing that people keep comparing the NHL to a video game? I've been a die-hard hockey fan my entire life, and the 'new NHL' is making it less and less enjoyable for me to watch a game. I don't think that there's even a slight chance that they'll medal. Finishing in the top 5 would be a miracle, I think. The Canadians, Russians, Czechs, Fins & Swedes all have better teams, by a substantial margin. I really think that the US realized that they needed to 'rebuild' the program, and that having the graybeards wouldn't help them much this year, and would hamper the international growth of the youngsters. So, they pretty much decided to use this Olympics as a baptism by fire, throwing in a bunch of young guys and leaving a bunch of the old guys at home, and will hopefully be on track to medal in 2010.

    Emo/Punk/Pop Rock stuff...

No, it'd be considered "music" ... it's just that the word "music" would just have an adjective such as "horrible" or "barely listenable" prefacing it. I agree with snuffbox re: 'jam band' ... such a stupid name for the genre.
