smh, point taken on the B's blueline ... even I think it's one of the worst in the league. But the B's will most likely have only one rookie or second year player in the line-up each game. And they could easily play 6 deep without a single rookie or 2nd year guy (As much as I hate Gill, he's a decent second pairing d-man, Boynton's fine on the top pairing, put Leetch with Boynton & Slegr with Gill, and have Girard & Moran as the 3rd pairing. Not the best, but a line-up that I'd trust in the postseason). LaParka, I agree, no one really goes 6 deep with great D ... my point is that if the Lightning put so much money into three players, or 5 if you add in Boyle & Kubina, then they'll be forced to have entire lines and D pairings of guys making no more than a million dollars. And I don't think you can win in tomorrow's NHL with so much money tied up in so few players.

smh, you and I will have to agree to disagree ... I personally don't think having almost half your salary tied up in 3 players is a way to compete for a Cup. You'd be wicked reliant on unproven kids (or past-their-prime vets that are willing to play for a million or less) to eat plenty of ice time. Come playoff time, I wouldn't want to see a first or second year player guarding my blue line ... especially if Johnny Grahame is between the pipes. If given the choice of picking up a player that could very easily slide onto their top line and help immediately, or save 3-5 draft picks that MIGHT help in a few years, I think the Rangers (and most teams) would pick the proven commodity.

    Why are the "bug-eye" sunglasses...

I actually think the Olsens started the trend (well, started it among the Hollywood rich kids scene).

I doubt that Barron really thinks the impact on another player's life (or death) is the way to figure out who wins a trade. It's still a humorous point nonetheless. And I think that Max had the right state, but wrong team ... Richards will be a Ranger. They're going to need to pick up a player and are the type of team to overpay for a player that they really want. If he has a good season, they'll target him in the offseason and the Lightning won't be able to match it.

Can we talk about the Trade a little more?

I'm going to sound like a broken record, but compared to the other crap that the WWE's been putting out each week, the chance to ogle some dumb blondes and watch them 'feud' is among my wrestling high-lights of the week. Lushus speaks the truth about Maria ... she's fine, and her idiot gimmick is money. Andrew, I agree with Torrie, but "Ms. GoDaddy.com" is pretty high on my list. /unapologetic diva mark

First of all, you can all go to hell for posting so much when I'm actually busy at work ... where are you guys when I'm bored and there's no one online?!? smh, let's say that the cap stays at approximately $39 million. If the Lighting have $18 million (the middle of your $17-19 million range) then they have $21 million for the other 20 people on the team, which would take them to the max (and eliminate any chance of picking up a player at the deadline). Good luck fielding a team that has a majority of the players only earning an average of $1 million.

Can we talk about the Trade a little more?

^ Why bother posting in this thread then? Personally, I'm digging the current state of the Divas more than I am either major title scene. That's the reason why I'd post and/or care.

Why are you looking at her sunglasses in that picture? Why would I be looking at you in that picture? (btw, how old ((young)) is the girl that I was leering at?)

We'll see how well the Avalanche and Wings run their organizations this year, now that they have a limit to what they can spend. In 2003-04, the Wings payroll was ~$77 million, and they had 8 players making more than $5 million a year. The Avs payroll was over $63 million and they had 3 guys making more than $9 million a year. And that's with Kariya playing for a fraction of his worth ... they should have been closer to $70 million. (source: http://asp.usatoday.com/sports/hockey/nhl/...x?year=2003-04) I'll agree about the Rangers, they did a piss, piss, PISS-poor job of spending money. Richards will get a bigger offer than you'd think, I think ... certainly more than what the Lighting will be able to pay him, unless they're planning on having a handful of players making the minimum. Richards should get $4.5-5 million a year, and if the Bolts give him that, they'd have, what, a third of their payroll tied up in three guys? (I actually think either St Louis of Vinny will have to get moved in the next 2/3 years ... they've tied up too much money in two players, for 4 years at a minimum) Grahame's a great back-up, but I don't think he's a #1 goalie ... yeah, he won a Calder Cup with Providence, but he's never played more than 30 games in a year. Let's see him play a full year as a #1 goalie before we start debating his ability to win a Cup. You yourself called Raycroft a "one year wonder" ... at least he has one year as a starter under his belt.

    Hogan/Michaels Backstage gossip

Is there any chance that a lot of Hart's popularity and draw was the fact that he was Canadian? And, as has been reinforced on TSM more than once, Canadians have a huge amount of pride in Canadian wrestlers? Could someone else have been in that position and done reasonably well as well? Basically, how much of Bret's success was because of Bret and how much was because he was a Canadian in the right place at the right time?

    what to do with ashley

The WWE seems to be distancing itself from women's wrestling. They seem to be more than content with TnA, especially TnA that's willing to get in the ring and do some sort of match (regardless if it's the Sharmell/Melina feud from these past few weeks or just a normal lingerie catfight). I don't think they have any plans on putting on a real women's wrestling match any time soon.

che, Bruins-bias or not, the argument is (seemingly) about who you'd rather build a team around. Would I choose a player that played less than half a year last season (and missed the entire season the year before) or a guy that's played a full year in the NHL even though he's young enough to still play in the World Junior tourney? Give me the kid who's more likely to stay healthy and play most of the games. Even in the new 'open ice era' Forsberg will find that the East is a much more physical conference. I'd be surprised if he plays more than 60 games this year. smh, two of those three organizations were premier organizations because they could throw money around. The Devils I'll give you, they managed to win each year with a reasonable payroll, but having a world-class netminder and a boring, defense-first (and second and third) game plan will help a team win with less talent. But Detroit & Colorado were able to overpay for years AND pick up high price players each season (Lang, Hatcher, Kariya, Selanne) ... this is a new era, teams will be restricted by a Cup. And if you think that playing with a "buddy" will make a guy play for millions less than he can get on the open market, you're crazy. I'm an admitted Grahame-mark, and even I think it's laughable that he'd lead a team to the Cup.

Do you mean like "MENSA-level intelligence" or "writes amazing songs" when you say brilliant? If it's the former, no, I didn't know that. If it's the latter, I laugh out loud. Depeche Mode is awesome ... people only hate them because they think it's ghey to like them.

    Tinkerbell and the Annoying People

Ripper, my original post was to send 'em to Asia to feed the dog-eaters. But then I thought of the PETA joke, and it made me laugh, so I changed my first line to better set up my second one. In the grand scheme of things, I'm jingoistic enough to want to feed the domestic poor & hungry before worrying about feeding the international equivalent.

    Wal-mart's next move in controling

Newbury pwns most record stores. They're far and away the best 'chain' store. I do most of my shopping either at a Newbury Comics or one of a few mom-n-pop stores in Boston or NH that have good vinyl collections. Wal-Mart doesn't sell the music that I buy.

Bands that everyone hates, but you like.....

If it makes you feel any better, I hate him after having listen to more than a couple of his songs because I find the music annoying and his re-use of the same lyrics in every song I've heard grating. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I detest AWK. (I detest the Deftones, too) ... AWK's music is about as memorable or enjoyable as Coq Roq's is. One of my bigger laughs at TSM was a year or so ago, when someone nominated him as being an 'underpublicized artist' even though he's been on MTV and VH1 ad nauseum.

    what to do with ashley

Ashley's cuter than Christy Hemme. I don't know if it's because her X-games inspired fashion sense or what, but she looks like she'd be a better heel than a face. She also looks like she'd be tough to match up with a current wrestler, for the same reason. Maybe put her with Damaja. Or as someone (Zack Malibu) suggested, put Damaja & a semi-repackaged Venis as a team, and have Ashley manage them.

Bands that everyone hates, but you like.....

Even though I was borderline dirty hippie, I was never that into the Dead. I loved Phish, liked Panic a real lot, and could deal with the Allmans, but the other hippie bands (GD, Leftover Salmon, .moe, SCI) never interested me. Having said that, though, there are certain GD songs that I love (Terrapin, Scarlet > Fire, Eyes, China > Rider) ... so they're definitely better than the other hippie acts that I referenced.

    Natasha Lyonne

Yeah that kicked ass. Especially the line by the man looking chick saying "Everyone thinks that I am a dyke because I wear baggy pants and play sports. But I'm not. All I really want is a big floppy dick in me." <{POST_SNAPBACK}> No doubt, that movie was all kinds of awesome, and even though neither girl is the stereotypical hot, I found myself digging them both. I'm bummd that Lyonne's not going to live much longer, I always dug her as an actress.
