    Messier to play 2003-04

The answer to the question "Why doesn't Mess just retire?!?" is in the posted article: "Messier's 1,844 career points are third best in league history, just six behind second-place Gordie Howe." Methinks that he's staying for one more just to retire as the second all time leading scorer ... even at his age, and with the talent around him, he should be able to pick up 7 points this year.

    Owen Hart in NWA/WCW

Pillman/Bruce Hart were Bad Company in Stampede. Not to be confused with the Pat Tanaka/Paul Diamond Bad Company in the AWA from the same time period. I think the Tanaka/Diamond team spelled it "Badd Company" ... I have memories of DDP spelling it out "B, A, Double-D Badd"

    Pats cut Lawyer Milloy

One way or another, half of us will be eating crow each week this season, starting this Sunday. Either Harrison will play big, or Milloy will. I doubt both will, and I doubt neither will. One thing that I'll miss about having Milloy play for the good guys is his penchance for head-hunting. Watching him fly at a vulnerable player with a head first hit if fine when he's hitting someone on THE OTHER TEAM but I'm gong to cringe the first time he lines one up against Troy Brown. And I WICKED disagree that not one would choose Harrison over Milloy. Both got mad attention when they were available on the open market. Both are good safeties. I'm just not shedding any tears over having to cut Milloy.

    NHL Free Agency 2003

I feel stupid ... it was Billy Ranford who had more success when he left Boston, not Moog. They were traded for each other, and I think that's where my confusion came from. Moog was good before his time with the B's (he was part of 2 or 3 Cup teams in Edmonton) and good while he was on the B's (shared a Jennings Trophy with Lemelin) but when he left he was just OK with the Stars. I still stand by my Peeters > Moog/Lemelin statement though.

Vote for Andrew W.K. at MTV.com

Between the times that he's already been on MTV, and the commercials that he's done, I don't think that he's really in dire need of exposure support.

    Woman Calls 911 on McDonalds

Am I the only one that pictures this woman being about 350 pounds, with unwashed hair and dirty fingernails, and absolutely nothing attractive about her appearance? Methinks that the $10 worth of the Don's was for her and her alone.

    Pats cut Lawyer Milloy

no, what he's ultimately saying is that Milloy got paid a huge amount of money for not producing much on the field. If you asked every GM in the league who'd they'd prefer - Milloy or Harrison - my guess is that 75% of them would choose Harrison. Last year, Harrison had more sacks, forced more fumbles had more picks, defended more passes and only had about 3 less tacles. And is only 13 months older. Is Milloy better than the youngsters that will line up next to Harrison this year? That's a big yes. But is a Harrison/Harris combo better than Milloy/Jones was at the start of last year. That's a bigger yes.

    NHL Free Agency 2003

I was thinking of Pete Peeters, actually. While Moog wasn't bad, Peeters was who I had in mind when I typed that. Moog wasn't at his best until he left Boston, in my eyes, where as Peeters played insane for the B's.

    NHL Free Agency 2003

While I'd have preferred CuJo, not at the amount of money it would have cost the B's ... if there's any sorts of salary cap after the CBA expires, having to pay anyone $8 Million+ will be crippling. Even though he's not as good as Joseph, Potvin is better than Shields, Raycroft, Dafoe, Grahame, Lacher, Skudra, etc etc. (anyone that's followed the Bruins knows how many names that I'd have to list before I mentioned a really good goalie that wore the Spoked B)

Some good WWE news for once!

*raises hand* *also raising hands* Joins the crowd with their hands held high ... Other than what's already been mentioned: Road Warriors vs. Freebirds in massive brawls Bruiser Brody in all sorts of bloodbaths Stan Hansen throwing stiff as hell clotheslines Vader back when he was only as "Baby Bull" Leon White The huge event in Chicago at Comiskey Park (with Warriors-Birds, Hansen-Martel, Flair, Kerry Von Erich, Hall and Hennig, etc. etc. etc) I'll be the first to admit that McMahon most likely wouldn't want to focus on any of the above, but he IS a businessman. If he has the chance to generate revenue from the past to make up for lost earnings in the present, it can potentially come to fruition.

    Old or New Misfits?

If we're talking favorite Misfits songs, it'd be either She, Skulls, or Cough/Cool ... depending on my mood. Most of the time, though, it'd be She.

    Old or New Misfits?

I disagree - I'd say either Mommy, Can I ... or Die, Die My Darling. Or, for those that only know Misfits songs due to Metallica, the Last Caress/Green Hell combo.

    Old or New Misfits?

As much respect as I have for Jerry and Doyle, you have to say that Glenn is what made the Misfits famous. Thus, my vote is going to the Danzig-era Misfits.

That picture almost outweighs my passionate hatred for K-State grad Michael Bishop ... but almost ain't enough. I still hate K-State. And phoenixrising, I actually agree with you about the MWC being underrated. It's a surprisingly good, and deep, conference most years. It's just that the teams tend to lose the big games against the major teams in other conferences, so they never get any respect on a national level.

    Sell Me On:

I stopped hating Justin Timberlake when I realized that he was in on the joke. Back when I thought that he was taking himself seriously, I had wicked hatred for him. Now, you see him with the whole "wink and a smile" type of attitude to it all, and you realize that he's just a 22 year old kid who's doing something that he digs doing, is having fun doing it, and getting to bang wicked hot tail as a result. Hate his music, or his entire genre, but don't hate him.

    Lullaby by Chuck Palahniuk

I finished reading Lullaby the other day ... not nearly as good as his other work, in my opinion. So far, I liked either Fight Club or Invisible Monsters best (too close to choose one favorite) and then probably Survivor, then Choke, with Lullaby a distant last place. If you liked Lullaby, I'd DEFINITELY recommend checking out his other works.

Fuck the "4 or 5 worth talking about" mentality. I went to Colorado State University, of the Mountain West Conference. Obviously on name value alone, the MWC wouldn't get any love on this board. But anyone that watched the CSU-CU game on Saturday night knows that the teams in the Mountain West can compete with the big 4 or 5 conferences. Yeah, there's a lot of shwag in the MWC, but CSU or Air Force can play with almost anyone. There can be individual threads for the powerhouse conferences, but it shouldn't be at the expense of the rest of the teams.

    Pats cut Lawyer Milloy

For all the money that Milloy was due to get this year, he wasn't producing much on the field. Last year, he had exactly the same number of sacks, interceptions, forced fumbles, and caused fumbles as I DID! (and yes, that would be ZERO across the board). It takes more than big hits to justify a $4.5 million dollar salary.

    Week One Prediction Thread

Let the record show that Eagen469 was too frightened to post his picks in this thread personally ... he needed to send in a martyr for his cause. Bad News Bills. He couldn't post them here because he had his posting permissions suspended. I'm just talking shit. I figured there was a legitimate reason, rather than just fear.

    Great opening acts...sucky headliner.

I went and saw the Ramones only because Social Distortion was opening. Saw Social D, sat through as much of the Ramones as I could stomach (about 20 minutes or so) and headed out. Social D > Ramones.

    Week One Prediction Thread

Let the record show that Eagen469 was too frightened to post his picks in this thread personally ... he needed to send in a martyr for his cause. Bad News Bills. Patriots - 31 points New York Jets @ Washington Redskins New England Patriots @ Buffalo Bills (Bills lose by at least 2 TD's) Jacksonville Jaguars @ Carolina Panthers Denver Broncos @ Cincinnati Bengals Indianapolis Colts @ Cleveland Browns Arizona Cardinals @ Detroit Lions (real losers: the fans who have to watch this game) Minnesota Vikings @ Green Bay Packers San Diego Chargers @ Kansas City Chiefs Houston Texans @ Miami Dolphins St. Louis Rams @ New York Giants Baltimore Ravens @ Pittsburgh Steelers Atlanta Falcons @ Dallas Cowboys (if Vick was playing, I'd choose the Falcons) Chicago Bears @ San Francisco 49ers New Orleans Saints @ Seattle Seahawks Oakland Raiders @ Tennessee Titans Tampa Bay Buccaneers @ Philadelphia Eagles (TB = LOCK) I'm actually surprised by how many games I had a hard time picking the winner of ... could be a very interesting first week of the season.

100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time

Rather than repeat the complaints already made (most of which are completely valid) I'm going to point out two of my own ... From the hippie department: How is Jerry Garcia that much higher than Trey from Phish? From the punk department: How the FUCK is Johnny Ramone that much higher than Greg Ginn? Neither Jerry or Johnny could EVER pull off the licks that Trey and Greg did, let alone be as versatile and influential. Yet again, Rolling Stone reminds me why I don't read their crap magazine.
  24. Now that VKM has "won" the Monday Night Wars, do you guys think that it would be advantageous for him to move off of Monday and Thursday nights? We all talk about how the ratings will be effected by Monday Night Football starting up. And Thursday always has things like the MTV awards and college football and "Must See TV" on NBC. How about moving Raw to Tuesday (still tape it on Monday night, though, so a pop can be edited in for hhh, Orton, etc.) and move Smackdown to Wednesday (either tape it on Monday or Tuesday). This would allow them to avoid the MNF competition and potentially take away from TNA as well. Your thoughts?

The one-and-only football contest thingy thread

If no one claims the Bears, I vote we pick a win total that's theirs every week (say, 10 games right, or 8 games, or something like that) and whomever is playing them has to beat that total.
