    Dumb Movie Questions

If people stopped paying money to see dumb movies, would Hollywood studios stop making them?

    Napoleon Dynamite

Finally saw it last night. Didn't hate it. Didn't love it. It definitely suffered from too much hype, the way Igby Goes Down did for me. It definitely had some funny moments though, in its own deadpan way. I liked the Wes Anderson-esque opening credits sequence. Uncle Rico stood out much more than ND did as an initially annoying but likeably tragic character, much like Vincent Gallo in Buffalo '66. And the "Two Months Later" epilogue after the credits was a cute moment for Napoleon's equally pathetic brother Kip. Haylie Duff, however, is definitely not hot. Not even close. Not even compared to her sister, who I think is also a dog. I might buy the DVD used for around $7, but I doubt I'd ever pay full price for it.

    What keeps you tuning in?

Like others here, it's more habit than anything else. However, it hasn't been "must-see" for me in a long time. I used to tape the episodes whenever I wasn't home to watch them. Now I don't even bother, because they recap everything the week after anyway, and nothing's been riveting enough for me to want to pay attention. The catalyst for this may well be the unsatisfying überpushes of both Orton and Bradshaw, since neither of them entertain me in any capacity. This may be an offshoot of the growing unwatchability of television in general. Or maybe I just have other things to hold my attention. In any event, unless the next wresling renaissance happens, I'll probably stop watching again like I did from '92-'96.

    Movies that killed a career

Chloe Sevigny's blow job scene in The Brown Bunny will most likely keep her off the Hollywood radar for a long, long time. But I'll be she'll be on Vincent Gallo's speed-dial forever.

    Most impressive wrestling debut.

Definitely Jericho. With Taz(z) at a very close second and the Radicalz at a distant third.

Any news yet on Kill Bill 1&2

I'll be waiting. I definitely want the definitive movie as a whole, even if I have to wait another year. Plus, I'm poor again after dropping a C-note on DeepDiscountDVD.

    NYRevolution, Royal Rumble posters inside

It's a stylized fire escape. Perhaps this will help put the pieces together for you. So No-Longer-Ulitmo Asai is coming back for another go? Have a nice trip, see you in the fall.

You didn't have an award-winning musical named after you. Very clever poster. I approve. And not just because I love West Side Story. Okay, that's really the only reason.

    Most Disturbing/Disgusting movie

I concur. Just an awful display. I think the lack of background music made it a bit too real for my liking. Similar to this is the rape scene in Man Bites Dog. I saw it with a bunch of friends and the room just died when that scene hit.

Rhino's 4-disc "Left of the Dial" comp

I used to play that stuff on my college radio show ('89-'94). Decent stuff, although if they were going for definitive songs for certain bands, I would have made a few different choices.

    Preach to me!

Recent albums I really like: Alkaline Trio - Good Mourning Death Cab for Cutie - Transatlanticism Morrissey - You are the Quarry The Weakerthans - Reconstruction Site
  12. From what I can remember: Gia Foxfire Mojave Moon Pushing Tin Original Sin Taking Lives And count me out of seeing Alexander. Not a huge history buff or Oliver Stone fan, and in general I stay away from Hollywood big-budget studio films. I shall invest my money in the "rent 3 films for $10" deal at my local video rental place.

Carter? The Arizona QB is Shaun King. And if Burress is out, doesn't that mean that the Washington secondary (one of the league's better pass defenses) will clampdown on Ward even harder?

WR dilemma: I have 5 WRs and have to start 3. Here's the breakdown • Hines Ward against Washington • Donald Driver against St. Louis • Randy Moss against Jacksonville • Larry Fitzgerald against New York Jets • Joe Jurevicius against Carolina Driver's a no-brainer. But Moss supposedly will be limited to 20-25 snaps after coming off his injury, and Ward's numbers have been down with Big Ben at the helm. Who should be my 2nd and 3rd receivers? I need to know ASAP since we have to get our rosters square before Turkey Day's early game tomorrow. My head says stick with the guys that got you there (Moss/Ward), but I fear a letdown by at least one of them. Any suggestions?

    The Replacements

Interesting note about Chris Mars: his solo debut was titled 75% Less Fat. Really subtle about how he felt about the rest of the band, no. Great album, nonetheless. And I concur about the 'Mats. Tim and Let It Be are seminal albums. I even like Don't Tell A Soul, which, while more mainstream and less edgy, is still a great collection of songs.

    20% off at DeepDiscountDVD.com!

Just caught this thread at the literal 11th hour... 12.20 am Saturday to be exact. I had been waiting so long to hear about some kind of promotion like this, and silly me hasn't been in this forum fo a while. Needless to say I put a little dent in my wallet but I finally got a bunch of DVDs I'd been wanting for a while now. 8 DVDs for about $105. Unfortunately, 3 of them (Clerks X, City of God and Big Fish were backorders, so I'll be waiting a while longer for them. But all in all, I'm pretty psyched. Thanks for keeping us all posted, Downhome.

    Upcoming DVD releases

Awesome news about the Leon Deluxe Edition. Every time I browsed through Best Buy, I'd hem and haw about picking up Leon and eventually passing up on it because of the price. Now I'm glad my frugal ways have finally paid off. That one's definitely going on my birthday list!

The Randy Moss dilemna… Coach Tice says he's better and that he'll be starting against the Giants this Sunday, albeit in a limited capacity. Of course, he started last week and did fuck-all. Luckily it didn't affect my final score at all. But this week it might, especially if he pulls another goose egg. I don't think I can afford to have him start and do nothing. So, do I start Moss in the hopes that they'll have him mostly in TD situations, or do I go the safe route and start Arizona's Larry Fitzgerald against the Bills?

    Chris Candido Back With WWE?

The chances of that modern miracle are slim to none (pun intended). I mean, have you seen that heifer lately? Nothing short of a time machine will ever make her look good again. As for Candido… feh. WW_ has enough small guys that they don't use without throwing another one to dilute the pool.

Morrissey urges fans to vote for John Kerry

The Mozzer weaves delightul pop songs the way Benoit puts on wrestling clinics. Catchy hooks, witty and often wistful lyrics, that signature voice… what's not to love? If only American pop music had even a thimbleful of Morissey's soul and talent, the world would be a much better place. Right now, I'm on a big "Alma Matters" kick. I stop what I'm doing and listen every time it plays on my iTunes shuffle. But historically, my favourite Morrissey song will always be "Suedehead". A true pop classic.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

This is why I never buy a movie when it's first released on DVD. There's almost always a better edition coming along down the pike. Thank god I have both the patience of a saint and the bank account of a monk. I await the Super Deluxe Edition with baited breath, especially since that's right around my birthday.

    A revolutionary idea ...

Why, post-match beatdowns, of course! And the occasional "Your man ain't my baby's daddy!"-style adult-themed angle that's a big hit with the ladies.

Week 7 Question: Should I start Lee Suggs against Philly or Mewelde Moore against Tennessee? My gut says stick with the guy I drafted (Suggs), but my head is saying go with the definite starter (Tice says Moore will get the start over Michael Bennett). I'll probably have another question later this week, depending on whether or not Randy Moss is able to play.
