NBA: Is Pushing Stars Over Teams Right?

I don't even know why I say anything anymore. It's automatically dissected as wrong anyway. Sorry for wasting everyone's time by making a comment in another thread and getting everyone going. Sheesh.

NBA: Is Pushing Stars Over Teams Right?

There has been a seemingly large influx of foreign players. But, that's to be expected with the sport becoming popular around the country. You know, the NBA really does underperform. I meet a ton of basketball fans that say stuff like "Yeah I love basketball, but I hate the NBA." That has really changed lately with the Thunder coming to town, so maybe it was the lack of a team to get behind?

    The OAO WWE DVD Thread

7 bucks? Sounds like a cheap way to catch up on WWE this year. I haven't watched WWE reguarly since Eddie lost the title to Bradshaw. Wish there was a cheap way to catch up on EVERY PPV since that time in 04, but that sounds expensive! The only PPVs I've seen since that faithful night Eddie lost is Royal Rumble 07, WM 23, and No Way Out 2007.

NBA: Is Pushing Stars Over Teams Right?

For the record, that's exactly what happened. Why even bring it up? Do you have an issue with this? I don't want people to think I created a thread to rabble-rouse. But instead you want people to recognize that you derailed a thread completely off-topic when it was something that certainly warranted one? You are "rabble rousing", whether it's in its own thread or not. I was talking about NBA players in an NBA thread. I hardly see that as derailing. If people wanted to debate me over it then that's where the derailing comes in. It was really just a comment on my part that wasn't meant to explode into a long debate.

Also for the record I didn't create this thread. I said something in the NBA thread, some people responded, I responded and then a mod (i assume cheech) took those posts and made this thread.

You can hype the star players, just don't do it every chance you get when covering the league. Don't throw their accomplishments at me everytime you mention the NBA. I prefer that the games be on and then the games reported on. You can report on the players, just don't act like 2 or 3 are the greatest thing ever and everyone else is just playing second fiddle to them in the league. That's what a lot of the hype feels like to me. "Well anything Kobe and Lebron does is infinitely more important than anything the rest of these bums do." Also stupid nicknames like "Bron Bron" really drive me over the edge when I'm already tired of hearing about how Lebron James is the best player ever, despite the fact the Cavs aren't playing on that night. That's what I want. Not to have them shoved in my face anytime anything relating to the NBA is mentioned. The lead story for any NBA telecast or game night is whatever these two did. Even if someone else scores 50 and looks amazing it's "OMG~! Lebron lost and scored 23 points. Story at 11!"

What, you mean the Shaq and Kobe show? Yeah you're right. There's not a good era of commentating and media hype relating to the NBA. It's too much of an individualistic sport for today's "I must find a select few and hype them to the moon" media.

I did enjoy last year a lot, because the Celtics won and the Lakers lost. However, in terms of media hype and actually being able to stomach watching anything NBA related with the TV not on mute would be post-Jordan and pre-Lebron years. And I'm not blowing a gasket, just expressing my displeasure for constantly having Lebron and Kobe rammed in my face everytime the TV is on.

Boy I sure did enjoy those lean years more than the recent years since Lebron has come into the league.

At least they talked about the teams and the history though. Not hyping up two individuals to nauseating levels. All the talk about Kevin Garnett getting a chance to earn a ring was over the top. Especially the interview with Bill Russell telling him that he would give one of his rings to him if the Celtics lost and that he would still be proud. It's still not the same as "Lebron! BRON BRON! He's better than Jordan! We are witness! Let's put him on the NBA logo!" or "Kobe! Kobe! Kobe is the greatest player in the NBA today! Kobe wins games by himself all the time!" At least there were multiple storylines going into that game as opposed to what I posted above which is all we'd get from these finals.

Besides, it wasn't just Lebron that beat the Heat in the 4th quarter. Mo Williams did a lot there too. But Mo Williams isn't a huge star, so he doesn't get shoved down our throats. I'm going to have to disconnect my TV and internet all summer after the Lakers and Cavs play in the finals. They'll still be talking about "The Greatest Most Star Packed Finals EVAH~!" well into December.

    My new way of eating.

Well damn my wishy-washiness sure did spark some craziness. Anyway, my workouts have been going pretty good. I've been doing the CF WoD, a tabata interval on the bike (you wouldn't think 4 min would be so tough) and some additional strength training (bench, squat, deadlift) no more than twice a week. I had read somewhere that strength training should be limited to twice a week. Having ruMarvin's Proxy Brainy practice and doing those taxing WoDs that's about all I can afford to do the strength training.

I would never put a star player ahead of the team. It's a team. The final score of the game was not 42-41. The other people in the game did something ya know.

I really hate articles that take this tone. It just makes the writer come across as a dick.

What will be the worst movie of 2009?

You know, the Dragonball movie will be awful. Especially if it's a totally different story than the anime. But, the dub was so pathetically bad and changed so many lines, character motivations and actions that it came across as a totally different show too.

Comments that don't warrant a thread

So I think the love I had for RPG's in junior high and high school as died. It's gone out the window with my previous super-nerd love for wrestling and anime as well. Replaced by a love for action games, sports games, FPS and legitimate sports. I don't know how or why it happened. Maybe it's the fact that there haven't been a ton of turn-based RPGs since I graduated HS in 2002. That and as I've grown older and graduated college and gotten married I've found less and less time to play video games. The market has really changed to support action games and FPS. That's what I've been playing. They don't require the time committment RPGs do. It's easy to just sit down and play Gears of War for 30 minutes and kill shit and feel like you got something accomplished. You play an RPG for 30 minutes and you've bought some supplies and crawled through the first few feet of a dungeon. I noticed this when I bought Lost Odyssey a few months back. I played it for a while and then there'd be long periods where I'd go a week without playing. Then it became an hour or so on the weekend. Then I got to the end of the game and realized I had absolutely no desire to spend hours crawling through the last two dungeons. I didn't even care about the story anymore at this point. Story has always been the main reason I play RPGs. Now, I didn't care. I just quit. It's odd because I've never quit an RPG before. Now I move on to Smash Brothers Melee Subspace Emissary, Gears of War 2, and Mario Galaxy (all games I got for christmas). Games that I can get something done and have fun only playing 30 minutes. Sorry for the long post. I just wanted to bring that up. It's weird when you used to be super obsessed with a gaming genre and spent years clamoring for another good one. Then when you play it you realize that love has left you. I still like RPGs like Oblivion though. You can get something done in 30 minutes there too.

Why can't the Cavaliers just lose a fucking game? God I hate this team......

    My new way of eating.

So I'm now up to 20 pounds since I started this thread. Down to 255. I keep becoming afraid that I'm going to hit a wall. I've had a lot of people (not just on the CF MB) try to lecture me that calorie restriction only works for so long and I'm going to have a huge rebound. I mean there's a lot of people trying to say this, so it's got me kind of scared it may happen. But, eating a ton of fat ("good fat") and calories like is being suggested seems really off to me. Then again those people at the CF boards are just a little bit elitist and crazy. They think eating the Paleo diet is the only way to go. I had a girl yesterday from there IM me and lecture me for a while (until i cut her off) that the Zone Diet and Paleo are the absolute 100% best way to lose weight, no if's and's or but's. When I tried to say that wasn't true, that different things work for different people she went on and on forever about how CF is the only way to workout and that the people that do CF get the best results of anybody else so I have to listen to them. It really made no sense to me. I need some god damn grains! Fuck! You eat a piece of bread and these people go off the deep end. But, the fact that so many people have mentioned the calorie restriction leading to doom is kind of scaring me. But, if you don't do calorie restriction....how do you lose weight?

    LOST

So I posed this earlier. Does anyone think the Dharma Initiative is around in some way? Because they did drop food on the camp.....where did it come from? Do they have a mainland base that is unaware their people were killed?

So Blake Griffin comes back from a concussion and has 20 points and 18 rebounds. That's cool, I didn't really like seeing a guy who just came back from a concussion diving into the front row though. Then again I guess it's good he's playing hard. I keep hearing ESPN saying he's undoubtedly the National Player of the Year. I guess it's cool he's going to win that award, but NPOY don't have that great of a tournament track record recently, do they?
