    DON'T GO BACK TO ROCKVIIIIIIILLE

"Nightswimming" came up on shuffle mode last night. I think that was my absolute favorite song around 10th grade.

    Wii

I got my PS2 the 2nd or 3rd week they were out. I had actually intended to sell it on EBay before Christmas but just ended up keeping it, even though I didn't have anything but shitty Summoner to play for a few months. I've never had it die on me. Used it all the time for a DVD player, too. Of course, over the past three or four years, I've only played games pretty sparingly, so maybe I'm not giving it the sort of workout that can kill it. I haven't actually cared about videogames in a while but might get a Wii, just because...I dunno. I want to play me some Zelda. Maybe a cheap Gamecube's a better solution for that.

    Now Damaramu is gone too.

I've got Dauber from Coach: That's from when he was in The Stand, but I'm sure there are better Coach pictures out there.

Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip

They had Three 6 Mafia on the first episode, so I already like it.

    Prison Break

My favorite Peter Stormare role will always be his part in Fargo.

Comments which don't warrant a thread.

Justin Timberlake & T.I.: "My Love." As good as "What You Know." I don't think it's been a great year for big, huge singles in terms of quantity, but the ones at the top have been absolutely fantastic.

    The Wu-Tang Clan Thread

I really like Liquid Swords but I can't make that argument. 36 Chambers may be my favorite rap album ever. The only two it could possibly be behind are Aquemini and Ready to Die. I really do feel they're best as a complete clan, formin' like Voltron.

    Recommend music to Chave

I can't remember if you were one of the many singing the praises of the new TV on the Radio album on this board, but it's real good. Highly recommended to BSS fans--I think you'll like it. A little cold at first, but once it gets its hooks in it's unavoidably good. Also from this year is Islands' Return to the Sea, which is really fun and poppy and varied. Lately I've been doing the lo-fi, relaxing rap thing, listening to Tribe Called Quest's Midnight Marauders an awful lot and plenty of Black Star as well. Mos Def and Talib Kweli before they became boring and irrelevant. Judging by your appreciation of slightly out-of-sorts rap and what I can remember from the past times you did this, you might dig those.

HEY HEY LOOK AT ME I'M A COLLEGE GIRL

"Bow Down to the Crown... Bitch" Today we salute you miss Zeta Tau Alpha sister. Not only do you have the looks, brains, and glamour, but most importantly the class to back it up. Sure, frat boys may talk to other ladies, but don't worry, their only dream is to date-a-Zeta. With that bunny hopping by and that Zeta sparkle in your eye, you are every guy's dream and every girl's envy. You can party like a professional, yet still keep that frat-tastic class. If you're dating a Zeta Tau Alpha, raise your hand. If you're not, raise your standards. Then crack open an ice cold Bud Lite you sexy Zetas, and remember: There's only one thing to be... and that's a Zeta Tau Alpha!!!!! you wit me girls!!

    Bye

Mole's ability to be completely passionate about things he's just discovered--and to find new ones all the time--is pretty great. As aforementioned, "You Jew" was also pretty sublime.

    SuperJerk is back.

Patrick, I'm sensing a lot of anger in you tonight. If I have to drive to Charleston to hug you, so be it.

You can see how huge the SEC's influence is on bowl payouts. 6 of those 10, including all of the top 4, have an SEC team. Actually, it's every SEC-affiliated bowl except for the Music City. That's the problem. There just aren't a lot of big bowls willing to give up their slots. The Cotton, Capital One, and Outback should probably be more evenly distributed (especially since Capital One and Outback are both SEC/Big Ten matchups), but who wants to get rid of a sure thing? The ACC tried desperately to get one of those when it expanded, but only managed to add the Emerald and Music City Bowls and still only have access to 2 of the top 10 payouts. The Big XII has access to 6 as well (including Sun/Gator). I still don't know why the ACC even bothered taking on the Emerald Bowl. There are too many big programs in Californa for it to be a recruiting benefit, and no ACC team will ever travel well there.

    NFL Week 3

Billy Volek traded to Chargers Great deal for the Chargers, who only appear to be giving up a 5th or 6th round pick. Having a back-up who isn't Charlie Whitehurst--and who could probably start in this league just fine if he wasn't a dope--is more than worth that.

Richt has won 10 games a year for the past four years. Probably'll do it again. They just do it so quietly. Georgia under Richt has seemed extremely opportunistic--blowing a game at some point, but sneaking in and taking the SEC East anyway. Good on them.

You know who's a bit of a mystery to me? Georgia. And they'll probably still be a mystery until at least October 7, when they host Tennessee. So far they've annihilated a I-AA team and shut out South Carolina and UAB, and next up they host Colorado and Ole Miss. Matthew Stafford seems to be doing all right in the "young guy who manages the game with an occasional flash of brilliance," and the defense obviously seems decent. Georgia always surprises me with excellent play to the point that I now expect them to win tough games (like last year's SEC championship) but I don't really have a feel for this squad yet. They'll be no worse than 7-1 going into the Cocktail Party, so they're kind of contenders by default.

    New Weird Al Song

I've been done with this thread for a long time but I had to comment on the worst, worst argument you can use in any discussion, whether it's about music, sports, whatever. "If it's so bad why don't you do better?" Terrible in any context.

Dude, let it go. You're ostensibly on a message board to talk to people about college football topics. No one currently wants to talk about the OU screwjob except for you. Ergo, just stop bringing it up in every post. We all know how you feel. There are tons of other OU things you can talk about if you have to talk about OU. This week's games are the drizzling shits. There's some potential for PSU/OSU to be good, but I'm guessing it's going to be a 2-3 score win for the Buckeyes. Aside from that, I actually think Iowa State/Texas might be decent, though again, it'll probably be a solid Texas win. I'll also be interested to see how BC handles NC State, who by all rights they should beat pretty soundly.

    DON'T GO BACK TO ROCKVIIIIIIILLE

I was more of a U2 guy than an R.E.M. guy. I know they're honestly not that comparable until the early-mid 90s, but I always lump them together. I own Automatic for the People, just like everybody else, and have minimum exposure to a lot of their early stuff. They were always a band I wanted to get into more, and I'm sure I'd appreciate all the IRS stuff much more now than I would have when I was listening to Automatic... every week.

I'd LOVE to see one particular game in the BCS bowls this year... Provided Ohio State goes to the title game, I'd want to see a Rose Bowl of USC and LSU. Given the bad blood between the programs and fans since 2003, that would be a natural for selling tickets and getting interest from TV audiences. I'd love it too. I would too, and I have no rooting interest. Two of the best programs of recent history who haven't met during this run--it'd be awesome. Rose Bowl's a perfect setting.
