A long rambling post about my weekend at Austin City Limits
Edwin MacPhisto replied to vivalaultra's topic in Music
I've never been to a giant festival. Sounds pretty marvelous, though the write-up would have been better if your girl was named something like Elvira or Persephone, something that's really funny to see written a bunch of times. -
Has it really been 5 years allready? 9-11-2001

Hardball's on TBS right now, y'know. GET SOME -
I saw the really funny FSU/Clemson/BC rankings. That's voters for ya.

Minnesota/Virginia, the rematch, Bored Bowl. I'm calling my shot. Either that, or I'll once again attempt to be the most irritating 6-7 team around.

One of my roommates, wearing his Shockey jersey, went out at halftime, feeling lousy. He walked in the door about 2 seconds before Eli tossed the winner. Dude jumped severely high with glee.

Oh, and I'd probably have WVU above Louisville as well. I think Louisville is the better team with Brohm, but for the next few weeks they're Louisville without Brohm and I'll rank them accordingly. I recall Hunter Cantwell being good enough, but they'll need Brohm to really be a contender, especially with Bush hurt too. WVU needs to avoid the bonehead penalties, but I think that's a fairly easy fix and certainly a smaller question than the questions a lot of other teams have. Dama, I think OU was lower because Iggy's ranking teams on how good they appear to be now, not where they'll finish or what record they'll end up having. OU seemed and seems about right to me. Teams for whom the jury is still out considerably: Texas, Virginia Tech, Georgia (though they did well blanking South Carolina), Iowa...I think they'll all be good teams, but I'm not sure who among them has the chance to be an 11-1 good team vs. a 9-3 good team. You could file Oregon in here too.

Yeah, I don't know about Auburn as low as 5, Iggy. They went up against the best defense they're going to face all year and won, and also showed that their defense is one of the most impregnable in the nation. I think LSU is about as good as you think they are, and that they're Auburn's toughest opponent all year. Beating your toughest opponent in September is cause for applause. I certainly wouldn't have Auburn behind UF and Michigan at this stage. Maybe behind USC, but I'm more impressed with what I've seen from Auburn so far. Florida looked really good but Leak threw too many errant passes and still bungled too many Urban Meyer offensive calls. I was impressed with the way Michigan worked ND but I want a little more consistency out of them, since I was unimpressed with their play before this week.

That's some heavy duty ass-sucking. Good work us.

UF/Tennessee has been getting all the attention, but Clemson/FSU has been just as good--Clemson just went up 27-20 with 8 seconds left. Great rebound from last week's heartbreaker.

So I'm Going to be on MTV Next Month

TSM has a frighteningly disproportionate amount of people with connections to this show. -
Going unseen today with all the really really big games is the fact that both Wake Forest and Rutgers are 3-0. Sure, they haven't played much of anybody, but most of the time that doesn't even matter. And jesus christ. Wake is one of the better looking ACC teams at this point--NC State is now down 37-10 to Southern Miss, and UNC is down to freaking Furman in the 4th quarter.
-
Clemson just went up 21-9 on FSU with a very impressive white boy scramble. FSU continues to look very mediocre. Okay, when the hell did announcers start referring to "the boo-birds" in every game? I swear I haven't heard it before this season, but now I can't get through 20 minutes of games without someone busting it out.
-
TCU keeps Texas Tech to a mere 3 points? That's pretty damn impressive. I shouldn't gloat since my team got embarrassed today, but NC State is down 10 to Southern Miss. Keep hope Alive, Chesty Chuck!
-
Ugly, ugly week. I think, depending on the last few games going, the most I can get is something like 8 points for the week. But, as long as Kentucky holds onto its 14-point lead in the last few minutes, I'll still vomit out the win.

Oregon fans can be proud because, aside from the shitty officiating, they just beat Oklahoma. And they did it on a gorgeous touchdown pass, and a blocked field goal as time expired. Fans don't care about the calls when you get moments like that. It's not really Oregon's fault that their team played well when given the opportunities--even if, as we all saw, those opportunities probably shouldn't have happened in the first place. (The calls are a separate issue, but: I didn't think the onside kick was that bad because it was real tough to tell where the ball actually was as it was coming down. The PI call sucked, though, because that ball was clearly tipped on the live, full speed, regular camera angle, and actually looked worse when slowed down.)

Ouch. Let's all catch our breaths for a little--oh, wait, it's 7:30 already. Damn, son.
-
GREAT finish to Auburn/LSU.
-
Ditto. Miami/Louisville was over looooong ago.
-
On the bright side, at least Miami is getting raped, so the entire ACC looks shitty.
-
Virginia football just hit rock bottom, losing the homecoming game to Western Michigan. The defense was fantastic, but two first half interceptions yielded touchdowns, and then we made inexplicable quarterbacking decisions. I need a few drinks.
-
I love flipping between games. Just in time to see the Auburn field goal bounce off the upright, and then get right over to ABC to see an awesome Louisville touchdown catch.
-
Surprising score of the week: Michigan State working Pitt pretty hard. I did not expect Michigan State to actually beat a team they're evenly matched with, since they always play well against top teams and lousy against everyone else.

Teaming him up with her is a disaster. The worst ESPN college commentary team of all. The funny thing is that stroke guy isn't actually that old, if you ever see him.
-
Lee Corso gets more insane every year. I don't mean in terms of his picks--I just mean generally. Dude is batshit crazy.

I'm very fond of all three main Yuenglings (regular, Black and Tan, and Porter), particularly at the price. Black and Tan is great with burgers and any other meat you grill.
