Good fucking game. That third quarter was some ruthless defensive football.

I'm doing my Slayer impression right now

Right now I'm listening to "Since U Been Gone," and all I can think about is that cold-hearted Incandenza.

Great game from West Virginia. It took this much, but they proved tonight that they are a legitimately great program this year. The Big East is still unquestionably the weakest of the 6 BCS conferences, though. West Virginia had a fantastic year and Louisville a good one, but the overall level of competition in the league remains a step below every other major conference. If Louisville and WVU can hold this well for next year, and Pitt can build on their late-season run (Greg Lee leaving won't help) while a young program like USF or Connecticut continues to improve, then maybe we can talk. Still, this game should kill any chatter about the lot of them losing their automatic bid for a long time.

It happens every year, but this year is so much more noticeable because many of the fraudulent teams were traditional powers (or in the case of Iowa, a recent and consistent program). I mean, Purdue was ranked in the top 15 to start the year too, but they were a pretty typical "this team has potential!" mix-up. Michigan with 5 losses? Tennessee finishing under .500? Those are the big shocks.

24-21 after a Superman pass from MVII and a big run on the next play. The people who said VT should be ranked ahead of Texas obviously hadn't been paying attention to who VT played, or really thought Georgia Tech was something great.

So is this the end of doin' it for the conference? That was an ugly, technically miserable, and absolutely perfect field goal.

Williams is a punk bitch. I'm loving the Gator Bowl so far. The Fox guys really suck. They keep calling Cody Hodges "Rogers," among other things. It's too bad, because Fox clearly has the best rig of HD equipment today. I'm watching the games on my dad's 70-inch LCD, and it's a thing of beauty. Fox, ESPN, ABC, and NBC, in that order. I don't think NBC even brought an HD camera to the game.

Disappointing indeed. Still, Clemson and NC State handled their business as expected, and Virginia, despite being 5-point dogs, took out Minnesota. BC beat a fine Boise team on the road. It pretty much confirms what I've felt about the conference all year: there really aren't any elite teams, but anyone short of Duke can play with anyone else there. It makes for a great conference season, but a little lackluster in the big bowls. Top to bottom I think the ACC has without question deepest set of teams right now, but they'll need more consistency from the bigger programs if they're going to live up to their new, 12-team hype. We'll see how the last few games shake out, but this year I'd probably go Big Ten, SEC, Pac-10 and ACC at about the same level, Big XII, and then Big East. There's significant separation between the top two conferences and the rest. Speaking of Miami: Larry Coker fired the OC, LBs coach, RBs coach, and his assistant coach/OL coach. Dropping Kehoe, who's been there forever, is pretty nuts. Miami was down (by their standards) this year, but this seems like a huge overreaction to me.

Texas Tech is my slightly out-there flyer in the big bowls. Bama's offense was absolutely anemic at season's end, as they never came close to finding anyone to replace Prothro. Great as Bama's defense is, I think Texas Tech only needs to score maybe 20 points to win this one, and I think they will.

TSM's WORST POSTERS - VOLUME ONE

I noticed that, but left it because it seemed pretty good. I'm glad you found joy. -
Well yeah, but I thought that was assumed. Kelly Clarkson's good for stateside.

I don't get that strange comment, but "Since U Been Gone" is the best. Ever.

I remember nagging you about fast food sucking ass like two years ago or so. Nicely done.

You curmudgeon, you.

Instead of a bed, I'm thinking rusted-out boxspring on the floor.

Yes. Charmed is a silent killer.

Yeah, but did you watch the first quarter? It was a thrashing. The only big play was the stop on fourth down deep in Tulsa territory, which was more a stupid playcall from Pat Hill than Tulsa doing something great. Someone made adjustments in the second, but they put up about 10 yards in the first quarter versus a huge push from Fresno. Took plenty of time for them to wake up.
-
Tulsa pulls the upset. UCLA, Virginia, Missouri, and Tulsa have all come back from what looked like thrashings early. Good back-and-forth bowl games this season.
-
Liberty Bowl is pretty solid. Not going to touch last year's fantastic Louisville/Boise match-up, but Fresno and Tulsa are slugging it out in fine fashion. And those colors look nice in high-definition, for a bonus.

TSM's WORST POSTERS - VOLUME ONE
Edwin MacPhisto replied to Murmuring Beast's topic in No Holds Barred
When I went to see King King last week, a person behind me kept breathing really heavily and sort of snuffling about, like a pig looking for truffles. I was going to tell him to stop hoovering, but when I turned around, I saw that he was a chubby guy with a poorly-maintained goatee, a ponytail, and one of those shirts. Pity overtook me, and, shaking my head, I turned away from the sad mountain of a man and returned to ogling Naomi Watts. Clothing that inspires pity is hardly clothing at all. -
So do you watch this show because of choice or because your better half plays the DVDs/watches TNT re-runs every spare moment she has? Not better half, but over the past year I've had a tendency towards female roommates, all of whom seem to love it. It used to be on at dinner time, so I could just cook, but now it just seditiously pops up at various times throughout the day...

...or going to D.C. Seriously, if Killa Cam isn't safe there, who is?! One of the best things about going to the 9:30 Club (when you're coming into D.C. from the south) is that, as you head west down 7th Street, the neighborhood gets exponentially more threatening with each block. Totally fun, and there's the biggest Popeye's I've ever seen there, too.
-
Well, I guess now is a good time to retract that statement about Miami walking over LSU. What an astonishing ass-whooping.

Geographically those bowls don't make a lot of sense. You get a lot of bowls in Texas and a lot on the east coast, not too many worthwhile ones in between. The Gator Bowl starting next year will have the ACC #3 vs. the Big XII #4 two years out of four, with the ACC #3 playing the Big East #2 the other two years. It's part of a bowl sharing arrangement with the Sun Bowl, I think.
