Early prediction: USC by 14. Should be a fantastic game, though.

Hell if I know! Ron Prince, offensive coordinator, being tabbed by K-State was a stunner. Al Golden I can see, because he's interviewed for a lot of jobs in the past year or two, including Notre Dame, and c'mon, Temple will gladly take anybody who'll take the job. Kansas State--and Bill Snyder, apparently--really loved Prince after the first interview. Admittedly, there's a lot to like. He's excellent at developing players and recruiting--UVA's o-line has been a strength, and he's the guy behind Elton Brown and D'Brickashaw Ferguson. The players love working with him. His playcalling is so-so, in my opinion. Doesn't always adapt quickly enough or seem to follow our strengths--too often this season he had 5'9" Marques Hagans playing like a 6'5" drop-back passer, and we stopped even bothering with designed runs halfway through the year. I actually think he'll be a better head coach than OC. Our associate coach, Danny Rocco, also just took over the 1-AA Liberty job. An assistant or two may follow Golden to Temple. Next year is either going to be amazing if the new coordinators work out well (many people want to try to get Musgrave back from the Redskins since he's suffocating there), or terrible if they can't get the players comfortable. The program could use a bit of a shake-up, and I'll miss both Golden and Prince more in terms of recruiting than in terms of playcalling.

It's not really running up the score if it's the first half and your conference championship game. Texas has matched what they did against Colorado the first time this season, and now they have a lead pretty much beyond any possibility of overcoming. Young probably won't play more than a few series in the third quarter.

firemajorapplewhite.com is one of the funniest websites I've seen in recent memory.

Seriously. UCF's gonna be the favorite at this rate. Looked smart 2 weeks ago. That was...2 weeks ago. They could have had any of the spillover ACC teams, or even a much more local MAC school like Northern Illinois.

GAH! BOARD! WHAT THE FUCK YOU DO?

Just get rid of it entirely. -
"Ruby Tuesday" and "Under My Thumb" are two of my favorites too. I also like "Honky Tonk Woman," but won't really fight its inclusion here, especially cause I don't really have a vote of my own. I probably should listen to some of the pre-Beggars Banquet albums for that. "Play With Fire" is kinda boring, I guess, and a lot of their better songs achieve the same things in more impressive fashion.

Generally? Good songwriting. They were once the best sometimes-frantic/yelping indie rock band out there, outside of Pavement. Their music is very often the sound of desperation, but they do a lot of beautiful pop songs too. Specifically? Their earlier albums, This is a Long Drive For Someone With Nothing To Think About, Building Nothing Out Of Something, and especially The Lonesome Crowded West. If someone's working off their mediocre live shows of late and just the most recent album, which is at best decent with a few high points, then I agree that he'd have little reason to love them. The back catalogue's fantastic, though, and I think that's where a lot of people--myself included--got hooked.

I assumed that "HELLO?" was more likely connected to the fact that Michael managed to stop the countdown (remember, while he was fiddling with the machinery, he got it to just stop, at 51 minutes, I think). Someone on the other end--probably in one of the other bunkers--has a means of monitoring that. The message came right after he stopped the timer, after all.

I'm pretty sure the CD store back home has all of those used, so I'll check him out when I visit the parents for the holidays. Thanks for the shortlist.

Hey, it's Kinetic. Discussion sidebar for which you might be helpful. If I recall, your member title used to be "All I want is easy action," the line from T. Rex's "Solid Gold Easy Action." A month or so ago I heard a song in a music store using that same line, but it clearly wasn't T. Rex. Sounded more like Will Oldham or someone of that ilk. I have not been able to find out what it was or who it was. Perhaps you have some inkling. Once I get a new hard drive and have room to download stuff, I guess I'll burn through Czech and Agent's Zappa lists there. I've heard almost nothing by the man.

Also, after BLOWING UP A HOUSE WITH HER STEPDAD WHO WAS ACTUALLY HER REAL DAD IN IT, Kate has gained ground in the "most ridiculously fucked up past" competition, probably tied for pole position with Sayid.

omg wtf INSTANT MESSENGER WILL SAVE THE DAY

Houses of the Holy is my favorite Zeppelin these days. It's fun. Most of their catalogue isn't. For the multitudes who don't get Radiohead, I will, for probably about the 30th time on this board, encourage you to listen to The Bends, which is devoid of everything you probably think when you think of Radiohead (re: pretentiousness, screechy Thom Yorke vocals, etc.). I mean, who can't dig "Just" and "The Bends" and "Fake Plastic Trees." Take or leave the rest of their catalog as you please but you do yourself a disservice if you miss out on that one.

Very easily off-putting. I think Rain Dogs blew my mind from the first time I heard it, though. The weird music works for me, and his vocal performances reached a whole new level around that time as well. Songs like "Time," "Anywhere I Lay My Head," or "Who Are You" (off Bone Machine) are pretty much the most gut-wrenching, bombastic ballads I've ever heard. Overall, his output from the mid-80s onward provides an absolutely unique type of sound and performance, which I think is a major part of the appeal. I'll second Animal Collective, though I haven't heard the new album yet and everyone tells me I'll like it. I'm still working on the Talking Heads, as we mentioned in that other thread. I also struggle a bit with Television, which I can see is technically great, but doesn't interest me a whole lot. Maybe my 1977-1984 heart just belongs to the Cars.

What an awkward time for the SEC championship. I'll be watching, though. That's about it. USC/UCLA should be fun for a half.

In fairness, they probably scheduled Syracuse back when they were all right. Weren't they a 9-win team as recently as 2001? I never can tell what games have been in the making for 4-5 years, and which ones came up lately.

Really good album.

That's not even Cougin' it. That's straight Temple-in' it. Ouch. Speaking of backing into title games--I know it was discussed earlier, but I'm still rolling my eyes at Colorado. I guess the only question will be if Texas beats them by more or less this time out. I can't believe Iowa State lost overtime games against inferior competition two years in a row, when a win either time would have won the Big XII north. Go Cyclones.
-
The play itself's pretty good, if not the greatest-of-a-generation, as its most ardent followers would have you believe. But for me, most of the appeal was in the bizarre set and weird, lurid antagonism you could see bubbling under a lot of the live performances. Since all that's gonna be missing from the film, not worth it.

It's tough. Even Clemson seems more likely to give Virginia Tech a game at this point. But still, FSU was a faltering but respectable 7-2 when they clinched the division, and BC laid an egg in both of its showcase games this year (FSU and VT), pretty much beating everyone they were supposed to but nothing more than that. Considering that BC would be there had they managed to beat 5-6 North Carolina (who, admittedly were a very tough opponent at home this year, also beating Virginia and playing Miami, Maryland, and Wisconsin very close), I think my sympathy only goes so far. You know, Tommy Bowden really needs to get his team to avoid these 4- and 5-game losing streaks midseason. One win out of that streak and Clemson's playing VT.

So I went to the Orange Bowl today to see Miami and UVA. My boys lost, but played really well. Really good game. In person, you can really, really see how the speed of a team like Miami makes it very hard for them to lose games, even when they're fucking up left and right. The game was good, but my god, the Orange Bowl is an absolute dump. Easily the shittiest, most poorly maintained stadium I've ever been in. This is Miami, perennial power, and they have two speakers and no jumbotron. The entire thing is a rustbucket. So disappointing. Also, FSU's been on a steady decline this year. Weatherford has been shit since the loss at Virginia started his big tumble. He's practically a lock for three interceptions a game now. It was a terrible progression for the team: get upset on the road, get upset at home, get hammered by Clemson, get hammered by #2 rival. I'm half-expecting VT to shut them out next week.

It's not, but it's close. The last 25-30 minutes of this movie: romantic comedy action flick.

I'd guess the heat will be off Callahan for a while if Nebraska finishes at least 9-3 next year. He needs to get a team that performs in the wins and losses columns as well as Solich's did. Winning the Big XII North in there would be nice too. I haven't had a chance to see Nebraska much this year but their offense has looked fine in the two games I've seen (today and against Texas Tech). All the team needs is consistency--which, admittedly, is a lot to ask for.

While Dama shits all over the floor and rolls around in it, y'all are missing Nebraska absolutely hosing Colorado. As long as Iowa State handles their business against Kansas--and, admittedly, they failed in exactly this situation last year against Missouri--they're going to face Texas. Considering how hot Iowa State is, I think that'd actually be pretty fine game, and certainly better than seeing Colorado get clobbered again.
