Who the fuck dips tobacco. I hate middle America.

It's so awful. Really. The first two kick-off issues were just horrible, even for "forming the team" stuff. Yick.

London Calling is my roommate's number one and way up there for me, too. The U.S. version of the self-titled is loads superior to the U.K. version.

I really dislike Audioslave, that new single especially, but you probably could have guessed that. Still do have a soft spot for that first Rage album, though.

The latest twist in the Schiavo case.......
Edwin MacPhisto replied to NoCalMike's topic in Current Events
That realclearpolitics link about the Zogby poll is pretty silly. Just look at the wording of the poll questions and the constant references to "a disabled person": Most people are smart enough to know that Terri Schiavo was not a "disabled person." To me, that's a quadriplegic, not a woman no longer capable of thought with no hope of recovery. Other polls refer to her by name, and to this case specifically. That's why they show anything but a populace that "sided with the Republicans on this issue." The Zogby poll proves nothing except that, shockingly, we as a nation don't want to kill people in wheelchairs. -
Ebert remains, without a doubt, the best film critic out there. The only who comes close to his level of knowledge, analysis, and writing is Charles Taylor. Lots of people trying to draw terrorist ties to Ebert lately. He's one of the most notable faces on nutball David Horowitz's supposed "terrorist networking" site too. What a weird guy to pick as your target.

The latest twist in the Schiavo case.......

Blah blah blah. I'm tired of this buck-passing. And this thread really couldn't get any better in "new leaps of logic" for Mike, but it did. Awesome. I'm glad Dean isn't intending to let the Republicans who turned this into a charade just whitewash the public's memory, as they do with so many other hot-button issues. Calling them on their bullshit when it counts is perfectly acceptable. -
The horrible "gimme gimme" or whatever samples on the chorus of "Beverly Hills" instantly make it a lot more miserable than "Undone." It's also neither amusing nor idiosyncratic, which is half of Weezer's appeal anyway.

Holy shit, this is just a Chicken Little again, albeit a lot more expensive. I loved those things.

One really weird cheap-ass music video is Sarah McLachlan's new one. The whole video is some excitin' graphics, text, and stock footage intercut with her just playing guitar on a porch, while the text and graphics indicate how the budget for her video was used to buy poor Africans various necessities. The weird aspect is that the budget adds up to something around a million dollars, which just leads me to wonder what studio thought washed-up Sarah McLachlan deserved seven figures for her video.

Ok, I think we're running down different streets here. Prince wrote "Nothing Compares 2 U," but to the best of my knowledge never released a studio version of it (though he does play it live). In 1990 he gave the composition to Sinead O'Connor, who put it on I Do Not Want What I Haven't Got and turned it into her only top 40 hit, ever. It's a beautiful song, and the video is O'Connor in extreme close-up, just singing the song in one take. About halfway through she slips a few tears. That's it.

The older I get, the more stuff falls out of contention for the top slot, at an increasingly rapid pace. Some Prince albums, Loveless and Rain Dogs (whoa) are the only things that have stayed in my ever-shifting top 10 over the last two years. Rain Dogs is also my favorite Tom Waits album, but I haven't heard the whole catalog. Still, it beats Closing Time, Small Change, Swordfishtrombones, Franks Wild Years, Bone Machine, and Real Gone so far. Man, he's good.

When I saw Prince last year, he played "Nothing Compares 2 U" in the encore. It's one of the best songs he's ever written. Works perfectly with a male or female vocalist, too. And Jingus, I don't think Incandenza's discussion of Replacements videos was comparing them to Alanis or Sinead O'Connor.

When I met you last night, baby Before you opened up your gap I had respect for you lady But now I take it all back Cause you gave me all your pussy And you even licked my balls Leave your number on the cabinet And I promise, baby, I'll give you a call Next time I'm feeling kinda horny Come on over, and I'll break you off And if you can't fuck that day, baby Just lay back, and open your mouth
-
Generally perceptive thoughts on the failings of both parties, but that statement raised an eyebrow.
-
"Head Over Feet" would have been unconventional if not for "Nothing Compares 2 U," which is infinitely better as both a video and song.
-
Fucking awful indeed. Mick Jones-ass Buzzcocks-apin'-ass mofuckas. It's rare that I hate a band's big debut single that much.
-
It's not as good as if he had the part where the girl pulls the pistol out of her bloody crotch.
-
<---Me too. I do mean Prince, by the way.

Weird. So, here's my X-Net question. For SWF shows getting rated highly and everything, has the fed's involvement brought in any people at all? Or is it mostly a vanity project at this point?
-
...why can you vote multiple times? That's so weird.

Yo La Tengo's "Stockholm Syndrome" is a lot better than Muse's "Stockholm Syndrome."
