The Wire box set arrived today; I'm now the proud owner of Pink Flag, Chairs Missing, and 154. The only downside is that these British versions are pretty much devoid of the nice bits of album art from the Restless versions, but I'll cope. Awesome.

This is the greatest thread in the history of the music folder.

Why Favre didn't slide there is totally beyond me. I know people rag him for his interceptions all the time, but that was genuinely a bonehead play.

I just walked two miles, smoking the whole time.

I remember a scene where they said something along the lines of "Thank god for our giant penises" and then let their peni unfurl. -
They'll start really fast, apparently.

"Debaser," "Only Shallow," and Prince's "Let's Go Crazy" may be my all-time favorite starts. Some more that I've been loving lately: The Cure - "Plainsong" XTC - "The Ballad of Peter Pumpkinhead" Slint - "Breadcrumb Trail" Ghosface Killah - "Iron Maiden" Pavement - "Summer Babe" ...Which reminds me that I need to go buy the Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain reissue. I prefer "Rebellion (Lies)," but it's a strong #2. The best opening song I've heard from this year's releases is probably Les Savy Fav's "Meet Me In The Dollar Bin," though I really like the start of the Madvillain album too.

Of course, if you don't care about dying that one time, you can play around in the city to your heart's content when you start up again. It'll put you at the closest hospital, even if it's in an area you're not supposed to be in, in my experience.

I just don't know how I didn't have it yet. Jeez, way to be a failure, me.

I almost bought that today. Instead, I got Duran Duran's Greatest.

Even "Butterfly" has that one line: "I smell you on my hand for days." Priceless. I don't listen to Pinkerton much anymore either, which is too bad. Ho hum.

D'Brick isn't declaring. He's staying on to get his degree, and to get bigger.

There are a lot of potential girlfriends, actually. I don't remember what the original one does, but one's a nurse and one's a cop - dating them means that you don't lose money or weapons when you get wasted or busted. Overall they seem pretty extraneous though, unless you're hard-up for 100% completion. I just realized today that you can steal trains and ride them across the entire map in about 2 minutes. It's fantastic.

It makes you sick? Nerd. Dark Side is decent, but even in my limited exposure to Pink Floyd, I've learned that it's not close to the best they've done. I don't even like em that much.

Oh god why can't I find Stella Artois in this town
Edwin MacPhisto replied to Giuseppe Zangara's topic in No Holds Barred
I thought now would be a good time to mention that I just got back from a bar with my friends, where I consumed approximately 120cL of Stella Artois and listened to the Pixies (Doolittle in its entirety! What a bar!). Somewhere, Incandenza is wishing he lived on Florida's west coast rather than its east. -
Not as bad. The best mixed one seems to be "Neighborhood #3/Rebellion (Lies)." They also sound much clearer through headphones.

I drank Stella like a fish when I was in London this summer. I feel your pain. I'm pretty sure most Charlottesville stores have it by the six-pack. -
Yeah, I don't know what they were up to with that. Maybe I'll give them a letter expressing displeasure with that when I see them in a few weeks.

Soaring epic indie rock, for better and for worse. From what I know of your tastes, you'll probably hate them, but you can listen to one of the tracks I linked if you want to check. They download quickly.

Arcade Fire live show, for those of you who might fancy it. I'm impressed with how catchy and immediate Husker Du's Zen Arcade is for as rough an album as it is. I've listened to it only three times so far and I'm already growling along.

For what it's worth, I still really like "Salt of the Earth," though its placement at the end of the album is pretty uninteresting.

Which albums for Jay-Z? He's got a lot in his catalog that is average, but his peaks are astonishing.

Black khakis, a bowling shirt, and one of the close-cut hairdos like the Cesar or high fade makes for an excellent early 90s Dr. Dre.

I know download's the only way, duh. I mean from where.

Questions on Tolkien/LotR Books/LotR Movies?
Edwin MacPhisto replied to a topic in Television & Film
It's simply not your taste is all. Too much work went into costumes, writing, cinematography, acting, sets, and music for those films to be underwhelming. They just don't click with you, man. It happens. The real answer is that they're too torn between being character pieces and big fantasy action pictures. As a result, they're filled with bland characters and action setpieces that flow poorly and look far too glossy for what they're supposed to be. A lot of work went into the movies, but far too little work went in during the screenwriting and editing processes. Despite their ambitions, they ended up bloated and simplistic. Two Towers worked the best because it was already past the stunted, poorly executed exposition of Fellowship, and focused more heavily on setting up and delivering those big action scenes rather than trying to split time between half-assed attempts at both of them. I'll probably never watch these movies again. -
So I'd kinda like to catch up with this show, because I haven't seen a lick of it and the 10 minutes I caught tonight looked kinda cool. I don't download TV episodes or movies, so what's the best way to do it for this one?
