Boo on Neutral Milk Hotel dissin'. Admittedly, On Avery Island isn't up to the standard of In the Aeroplane Over The Sea, but gawd, this is one band that I never can think of as average. Mangum's crazy good, and the way he gets so much out of his little acoustic guitar and nasal whine puts this above-average in a moment. I'll join the ken adams stfu train. These were my favorites: No, not really. This is almost as poor an argument as the old standard, "let's see you try to make an album before you criticize my favorite band." Shit, it might even be worse. Also, yes, I'm thrilled about the Arcade Fire. If anyone near DC wants to see them, go to Tickets.com and search. They went up this morning.

Now that I know that "musical talent" consists of the ability to solo and wear spandex pants, I'm going to throw out all my Bob Dylan records. And is way too bad to be average. Though as far as average-sounding, they're way up there.

Hey, IDRM's sig picture is apparently an artist's rendering of Dana Scully. I just watched some X-Files tonight. The episode featured several references to needing a blazing hot probe.

I haven't shaved in four hours, so I'm getting there.

This is the best thing I've read all day. What does that even mean, especially in reference to this thread?

Hey, it's all right. My Memphis mess-up--I'm still kicking myself for not fixing that one--has us back all square.

I endorse Plagiarism's.

Hey, you're better at the internet than I am.

I really want to see the individual writer's choices, like they posted last year. Those were the best part of the whole thing.

The beat is fantastic, and really what makes the song. Snoop's delivery is lame, Pharell's a goofball. One of the Neptunes' few standout productions lately, though, and something different from what's become acknowledged as their typical sound.

I agree with godthedog. Mick Taylor > Brian Jones. Really, my only reference point is Exile and Sticky Fingers >>> rest of Stones' previous catalog, but it'll do.

^What he said about the Cure. My personal favorites from the early era are "A Night Like This" and "In Between Days." Anything off of their second singles collection, Galore, is remarkable as well. Much as a lot of Cure die-hards will bemoan it, the Cure have always been at their best during the soaring pop moments. Everyone knows "Just Like Heaven" and "Pictures of You" (and if you don't, you should), but lesser-known singles like "Catch" and "A Letter to Elise" are every bit as good. I also think that "Mint Car," probably the single-most gleeful thing they've ever recorded, should be accompanied by a video of Robert Smith rolling around playing with puppies.

Hasn't Jabari Davis only had something like 20 carries all season, though? I guess I haven't been paying enough attention.

Yeah. Go buy her album, Spiderland. It's got some guys swimming on the cover.

Owens' injury makes this a very interesting weekend for University of Virginia alumni. Billy McMullen, who was 5-deep on the Eagles' receiver roster, is getting worked into the rotation, so he'll get his first significant playing time. He was wonderful in college, but like so many, hasn't gotten very far into his second year. Time to put up or shut up. The other interesting bit is that Michael Vick's going to sit in the Falcons' game against the Saints this weekend. Since Atanta's locked into the #2 spot, they've got nothing to gain from putting him in, so Matt Schaub, UVA's big-name quarterback and a rookie this year, will get the start. Wahoowa, suckas. I don't think either of these guys will have big games, but it'll be fun to see them get a chance on the big stage.

That has nothing to do with Ashanti.

I like that I show up after the cop. Timing was never my strong suit.

Someone's balls need cuppin'.

The smell of wine and cheap perfume... Listening to Ashanti's "Only U" makes me want to have lots of sex with her. Seeing the video makes me want to really have lots of sex with her.

A Perfect Circle gets rid of all the good elements of Tool, brings the worst elements to the surface, and doesn't have nearly as talented a rhythm section. I tried it for Maynard, but it wasn't happening.

I really really like the opening vocal line of the verse and the rest of the song is ok. She's always been best at techno. Preferred No Doubt's pop stuff to the ska stuff. Whilst on the subject, was 'It's My Life' released this year? I know it's a cover, but that's another fave of mine. It was. Good song. And her second single of that album is weird, and is basically built around "If I Were A Rich Man" from Fiddler on the Roof. I kinda like it.

Hey, yeah. I saw a horrible modern version of a Sophocles play at London's Young Vic theatre back in July, and the only thing that made it at all tolerable was the fact that it used "Some Girls" for scene changes.

None of those have left him kicking at dust as much Cop Land. Tons of hype over that movie, as it was supposed to be his big dramatic effort, Oscar-quality performances, etc., the kind of thing that would get him away from the Judge Dredd/The Specialist/Assassins sort of shlock as he was getting older. It ended up being a below-average potboiler with way too many big-name actors and side plots fighting for screen time. Since Sly failed as a dramatic property, he's been pretty much on life-support.

I think that's the scariest day of purchases you've ever made, Mr. Wind. I haven't bought any music in almost a month, again. This is such a weird feeling. I'm hoping the family is kind enough to foist Left of the Dial or the Rolling Stones' Singles collection on me for the holidays, but we'll see about that. And hey, I listened to "Don't Stop Believing" twice yesterday.

That's a good idea. So, so much happens over a period of several years, and while some of the fundamental characters stay the same, a lot lot lot changes.
