If you use birth control pills and a condom, I think there is almost no chance of pregnancy. You'd be close to correct, but it's still definitely not perfect. People who play it safe still may (and do) get pregnant. I think abortion should be legal, even if you believe it evil. As Loss and Rob stated, abortions will happen. They have always happened; they have not always been safe. With abortion legal, the process is the safest it has ever been. Take that away and you'll be back to killing and maiming the mothers along with aborting the fetus.

Achievement is so evil. -
I remember when Thoth tried to link that picture from SomethingAwful. Cock indeed.

The Marine who shot dead an injured man

I think that's a bit naive. We would never have launched a campaign of this scale for strictly humanitarian reasons. -

The Marine who shot dead an injured man
Edwin MacPhisto replied to Vanhalen's topic in Current Events
I see, you are not fond of the policy that they are carrying out....but you are fond of how they carry out the policy... You need to examine your thinking on this. No, I really don't. It's not that complicated. I admire what our soldiers do and the good job they do at it. The administration chooses a policy. I'm an individual who doesn't get to vote on issues of war or national foreign policy, and it would make no sense for me to deny the reality of the decision they make. So I hope it works out as well as it can, and that as many soldiers as possible come back alive. Whether I agree with the declared policy or not, they're over there with guns ostensibly fighting for my interest; far be it from me to tell them that they don't deserve my respect, or that I wish for the nation's declared policy to fail at their expense. If you don't buy that, fine, but I think it's an awfully easy outlook to grasp. -
I never get in on these "I tell you something" threads, but I think this one could be funny and/or harrowing. Reluctantly, I put myself in line.

Nah. "Anyone Can Play Guitar," "Lurgee," and "Blow Out" all show a lot of promise. I especially like the latter. Also, to the person who said This is Hardcore, I say, wtf. That album's pretty much perfect pop rock from start to finish, even if it is dark by Pulp's standards. It's just as good as Different Class. Listen to the album a bit more and I'll be shocked if you can't get into it.

The Marine who shot dead an injured man

That's true, they don't want them harmed, but so what...that isn't supporting them at all. "I hope you don't get killed" is not supporting them. If you do not support the mission that they are engaged in, you do not support them. This is unnecessarily and inaccurately reductive. The troops are human beings; the mission is a policy. They are the executors of a policy; they do not make the policy, only carry it out. However, even if I disagree with the policy, the policy exists. It is their job to act it out regardless of my opinions on the policy, and I hope they do it well and safely. I'm not too fond of this particular war, but I'm very fond of our soldiers and, generally, how they do the job that our government gives them. -

Agent of Oblivion and I will meet before he dies.
Edwin MacPhisto replied to Giuseppe Zangara's topic in No Holds Barred
Agent will make it to middle age and die of lung cancer complications while in the midst of carnal action with a dissatisfied housewife. And you know you're going to sorta-kinda kill yourself as soon after you've lasted 5-6 years in a horrible office job. It won't be a real suicide, though. More like one of those ones where you convince yourself that you're losing control of the car cause of the weather when you're really just steering off the bridge. Agent 41, Incandenza 38. You heard it hear first. -
I find it odd that this could be the exception. Also, I'm of the belief that "Ego Tripping at the Gates of Hell" is the best song on Yoshimi.

Funny that you'd pick that song as the only good one. I much, much prefer "Empty Cans," "Blinded by the Lights," and "Could Well Be In" as individual moments. The real strength of that album comes when you listen to it in its entirety and pay a lot of attention: it's a fine bit of storytelling and one of my favorites from this year thus far.

I'm not so sure it'll be Iowa State. If they lose at Kansas State or against Missouri and Colorado can beat Nebraska, it'll be Colorado. Fear the Buffs. And if Colorado beats Nebraska and Missouri wins out (Iowa State and Kansas), then it'll be Missouri. There's always the possibility that Brad Smith could finally wake up for one game. Not bloodly likely, though. So odd. A 4-5 team still has a chance at a BCS bowl. Some other fun Big XII North math involves this scenario: Nebraska beats Colorado, moving to 6-5 and knocking the Buffs to 6-5. Missouri beats Iowa State and Kansas to go to 6-5, and Iowa State beats Kansas State to also end up 6-5. All 4 teams would be bowl eligible, to go along with the 5 teams in the South, making 9 eligible teams for 8 bowl bids. In that situation, Missouri, Iowa State, and Nebraska would have to go to some weird tiebreaker to decide the division. Whoever wins the division goes to the title game, gets waxed, and falls to 6-6. A team with a 6-6 record isn't eligible for a bowl in the 11-game season unless there aren't enough winning records to fill out a conference's bowls. Unless there's a loophole for winning the division (and there may be), the team that wins the division would be denied a bowl...by having won the division. Too funny.

You will NOT use bad words in SC schools!
Edwin MacPhisto replied to Downhome's topic in General Chat
Mr. Wrestling is fast on his way to having the worst post in a week. And the use of harsh language certainly wasn't smiled upon in my school. The one fantastic exception was when we were reading Beloved in my AP Lang class, and the roly-poly Jewish teacher chose to read aloud the part about the men fucking cows. She was awesome. -
He got here before I did. Hater.
-
Greatest qualifying statement I've seen in a while.

You should give him a wrestling-based user title to reflect that. He's been dreaming about it all week.

I've heard he'll be doing a track with Nas about restructuring the Middle East peace process.

Let it be on record, then, and stop posting. When you proclaim yourself a brick wall and then wonder why nobody likes talking to you in these threads, it's time to give up. -
I like and hate this thread at the same time.

The track that'd make the most sense is "Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own," which is likely going to be the second single. It also happens to be probably the best song they've recorded since Achtung Baby. I'm actually gonna watch SNL next week for the performances. Earplugs for the rest of the "comedy," I guess.

I wonder if Raekwon still knows how to cry.

I'd buy a Tindersticks album, but Ultimate Kylie is out on Tuesday. Come on now.
