Of course, Miami has to play both of them. Beating both of the Virginia teams--certainly a possibility--would still give them the conference. But I like our chances. If Virginia/Virginia Tech is for the title this year...awesome.

God bless the, uh, Fighting Wyomans.

2 losses in a row for the Hurricanes, second year in a row. If my boys beat Miami next week, it won't look as impressive...but it does look very possible. Unreal. The Fog Bowl is crazy. USC is getting back into it, though, and I don't expect the Oregon State lead to last through the 3rd quarter. And if anyone's wondering, Utah's up 35-3 against Colorado State heading into the half. They're really, really good. Edit: Make that 42-3. Yikes.

Don't look now, but this week it's Clemson taking Miami to the wire. 17-17, Tigers with the ball and 6 minutes to go. I love the ACC.

Some more thoughts: oh my god the Big XII North is awful. Whoever wins the division will most likely have 4 losses. It seems very, very possible that the division winner could be 6-5. Yuck. And speaking of the Big XII, Texas has looked absolutely incredible the last quarter and change. It's now 42-35 Longhorns. They're playing perfect football, and while I still don't think they're #6 in the nation good, they're making an argument for it.

I was at the Virginia/Maryland game. It wasn't even really close. If this is the team that shows up against Miami next week, the Cavs have a serious chance. Georgia Tech defeats NC State, knocking the Wolfpack to 4-5 and putting them in big-time danger of missing a bowl game. Ouch.

So you've got Mike saying that gays need to work for it if they want these rights, and Rant saying that he finds the people who would do such work to be shitheads. Tricky.
-
Too bad. That, then, summarizes why I think the public of America has no business voting to restrict the rights of minorities.
-
You don't. According to the tenets of Christianity, homosexuality is a sin (duh). My opinion of what you *should* do, however, is to not support a ban on gay marriage. Respect both your religious faith and the notion that our nation's government should be separate from that religious faith. If an amendment comes up in your state, SP, I would hope that you would choose to abstain from voting on it. You would thus compromise nothing: you would neither support homosexuality, nor judge another person as it is not your place to do. I think a serious Christian can be humble and abstain from a vote either way on gay marriage without offending God. It's not your duty to oppress or convert others, and I don't think you personally do that. If God's up there, let him do the judging. Don't give into the assholes voting to ban gay marriage just because they hate fags.

Alabama amendment to remove Jim Crow law fails
Edwin MacPhisto replied to Jobber of the Week's topic in Current Events
So the citizens of Alabama are either a) racist, or b) quite dumb. At least there's Auburn football. -
Last I checked he always seemed to be at work, giving up his soul for a little cash. That was about a week ago, though. I think he's since expired.

Hey, I like Boards of Canada. The subtleties in all the blips and swells require some close listening. I'm not really into ambient music at all unless I've got an hour to lay down with a good set of headphones. Chunks of M83's wonderful album seem a little too informed by pop structures to fall under allmusic's definition of ambient, but I'd be willing to call that a recent high point of the genre.

Go Bulls. My mom got her master's there a few years ago.

I'll stop considering the people who vote against gay marriage homophobes when they give me one solid reason that their individual preferences are worth legislating a restrictive morality onto others. Hubristic-ass motherfuckers. In the meantime, I'll avoid agitation and I won't call them homophobes. To their faces.

Except that 8 of these kill civil unions as well. I agree with Loss 100% here. In 11 states yesterday, the American public proved to be even more bigoted than I had imagined. The majority should not have any say in restricting the rights of a minority and I hope someone overrules the amendments sooner rather than later.
-
11 states ban gay marriage, and most of those also include provisions for banning civil unions and every sort of legal protections for gay couples. That's the saddest story of this election. Fuck Mississippi.

Yeah, that's my favorite. The $20 Sack Pyramid on The Chronic is a close second, and the record store bits from Outkast's Aquemini are wonderful too. In moderation, I think skits can be great.

Worth it just for Bowie's ginormous codpiece. -
The OAO What are you going as for Halloween thread

I was Prince, and my roommate was September 11th, which I think edges out my partial-birth abortion from two years ago as the most offensive costume I've ever seen. I'll add some pictures in the near future, I guess. -
Miami is a private school but it's really not that great. Think more Villanova than Duke. They also don't give a shit about grades when it comes to getting a good football player. The latest example is obviously Willie Williams, the 18-year-old with something like 12 felony counts and a sub-2.0 GPA.
-
Boston College was also a good choice on the academic end. Obviously that's not the priority of athletic directors, but I know that the university presidents at least at Virginia, Duke, Wake, and UNC were adamant about keeping up the ACC's "tradition of academic excellence." BC's considerably higher than, say, Miami, in that respect. I don't mind BC, either. I think they'll fit in well in the mid-level of the conference for now, and probably be a bowl team once the ACC gets the 7 or 8 bowl bids it's sure to snag with a 12-team conference.

I think the Fiesta will do West Virginia/Utah as long as the Utes win out. The TV ratings won't be great, but who gives a shit? You're only a few hundred miles from Utah and all those fans will certainly come, and West Virginia has an incredibly devoted following too. If you're going to get a blah team like West Virginia in there, you could do much worse than a very good team that's still a novelty in Utah.

Further proof that Edwin is the coolest guy to ever write for a wrestling e-fed. You know, that really boggles my mind that he does(did) that, unless it's just because he's the kind of person who's constantly writing something. I don't know the specifics, but the concept of that efed shit makes me taste bile. It was more continually writing than anything else, but I admit it was fun. Great fucking writers. I stopped a little over 2 years ago when I realized that I actually hated wrestling.

This may be the most ridiculous earnest sentiment I've seen expressed in this forum.
