41 more sued over music downloads

Man, 41 people. A whopping 382 since the inception of the lawsuits. Feel me tremble.

    Your Five Favorite Anything

::hurls GTD through window for the last 3:: I haven't actually done a legit list in ages, so, as of the last few weeks: Underworld, "Dirty Epic" Outkast, "Spottieottiedopalicious" Sleater-Kinney, "Good Things" Pixies, "Letter to Memphis" Jesus and Mary Chain, "Just Like Honey"

Because Gainesville is about 90 minutes from Tampa, home of the Outback Bowl, and there's absolutely no doubt that they'll sell out mammothly and comfortably again. Florida is nuts about football, and while I'm sure Tennessee would travel, they've got no reason to turn away a sure thing. They're after money. Florida's also just looked like a much hotter team since midseason. Tennessee's season landmark is beating Miami, which was huge, but came just one week after they'd gotten beaten by Virginia Tech. Old news to the public. Even after the FSU loss, Florida's the hot-looking program.

    Rolling Stone magazine's newest list

Does DMB really have a cornerstone album? Most of the 90's/00's stuff that's in here is either hip-hop, experimental rock, or some sort of album pretty widely-regarded as great, superb, the sort of thing Allmusic would nonchalantly drop 5 stars on. And another thing, c'mon, only two albums from the 90's or later even made it into the top 100. Pearl Jam in the top 25 doesn't really work for me.

Actually, it looks like it's going to be your boys facing off with Clemson. Florida accepted an invitation to the Outback Bowl this afternoon. The loser of Georgia/LSU'll go to the Capital One Bowl...Ole Miss'll go Cotton...and Tennessee eats a peach. Ouch. So much for beating UF during the season and finishing higher-ranked, eh?

He so clocked her with a shovel and dumped her in the basement. I'll be disappointed if it's anything else.

400-lb man dies after fight with Cincy cops

I think anyone who crosses his arms over his chest, leans back and to the side, and scowls down at a movie camera while wearing my annual salary in diamonds with clothes I'd refuse to be cremated in has given up all rights to that term. Sweet. Marney's gon' teach us how to stunt!

I think "people" is an overstatement.

Columnist says Fab Five are "useless."

Queer Eye is amusing but horrible in many ways. The vast majority of my gay friends are outraged that it's become such a hit and that the American public now views gays as cute, feminized toys moreso than ever. Of course, there's also the fact that, out of all the reality shows, it's one of the very few with an actual good spirit and sense of doing good for people rather than exploiting them. Take the good with the bad, I guess.

The College Football Championship Week Thread

Whoops, mistyped. I know Miami had the automatic bid, I meant to put Miami and Ohio State, implying that Ohio State would get picked over Tennessee because of the "REMATCH!" hype. So most people in the news media -and here - are pretty much assuming that LSU is going to get past Georgia again. The Bulldogs have been underperforming most of the year, but man, to be #6 in the country and patently dismissed kinda blows. I imagine the BCS execs are rooting for GA so they can just get a nice, clean finale without controversy. From where I sit, the best answer to USC/LSU is to put them in a cage and let them slug it out Thunderdome style.

Kotz, the dream is over. Even if Tennessee moves up in the BCS, nobody's gonna take them over Miami or Ohio State. They're not a big-money program this year. And I keep thinking about what OU did to Texas. Poor K-State.

400-lb man dies after fight with Cincy cops

Preliminary coroner's report is in. Got it here. I'd reserve judgment until a more detailed report is completed. If it's found that he died from internal bleeding or hemmorrhaging or whatever after being subdued, a direct cause of the actions taken by the police officers, then they ought to at least investigate these officers for excessive force. Not to say they weren't justified in clubbing down a 350-pound man who was very clearly ready to fight back, but it IS part of their job to arrest people without fatally wounding them. Now, if he and his enlarged heart ended up having a heart attack in the course of the engagement, then of course you can't place blame on the officers. They obviously don't head into a situation with a complete medical history laid out in front of them. Also, FBP unleashed the ultimate diss right there. Broke. Like a. Joke.

It'll certainly be a goodie, but I think the LSU/Georgia rematch pretty handily takes game of the week honors. That is, unless you think KSU can make a go at Oklahoma, which I soundly doubt. So, does the MAC team that loses the championship game get leapfrogged by Northern Illinois and not pick up a bowl bid, or do they still take that slot in the #2?

    Favorite Christmas songs

Damn, you, Inc! I was gonna say that the second I saw this thread! Goddamn you both. Third is the one with the treasure chest or something, so there. I'll take Eazy-E's "Merry Motherfuckin' Christmas" in a very close second. And I'm entirely serious about that, too.

Jay-Z, Beatles, Outkast, 2pac. I too hesitate to count 2pac, though, since this is just his family and lawyers cashing in on his estate.

It's official now: according to ESPN.com, Pitt and Virginia have accepted invitations to the Tire Bowl. Awesome for my Cavaliers, gotta suck for Pitt. Win last night and you're in the Orange Bowl, lose and you're in Charlotte on the 27th. Ouch. Guess VT is going to the Insight.

    Best Beatles Cover

Yes, because "I'm Only Sleeping" really demands a huge force of sound. I mock, because as much as I still dig those first two Oasis albums, I find their Beatles' covers generally crappy for the same reason you like them, I think. They take them way over-the-top, and not for the better.

    Best Beatles Cover

I saw the topic and was all excited to make a joke about really loving the art on the White Album. Thanks for nothing. U2's "Helter Skelter" is the opening track on Rattle and Hum, and I think it's awful. And that's coming from a heavy-duty U2 fan. There's a lot of hilarious crap on that album. My favorite Beatles song cover, then, is probably Elliott Smith's take on "Because." It plays towards the end of the movie American Beauty, and it's on the soundtrack too. I like it cause it doesn't really muss with the original too much. Helps out that it fits wonderfully in the movie as well.

WOW. Just got back from the Virginia/VT game. It was innnnnsane. I can't believe we actually kept Kevin Jones from hurting us too badly, and I can't believe we called that fake field goal. A fake field goal up by touchdown with 5 minutes left, two goal-line touchdowns on fourth and one...the difference in this one was balls. Al Groh called the hardest play every time it mattered and it paid off almost every time. Once it was 28-14, the conservative Tech offense just didn't have enough time to move it down the field. Solid game from both teams, but UVA just gutted it out and made the big plays. Watch the highlights, it's worth it. 35-21, Cavaliers, for the first win over Tech in five years. Now, to gear up for Miami/Pitt tonight...

    The Alien Quadrilogy

I dunno. I have the regular DVDs of the first two movies, and I'm not sure if the other two plus all the special stuff is going to be worth it. I like the last two for a kick now and then, but I'm not sure I need a whole disc of bonus content for each. $100 is a lot when you've already got the two good movies in the set. Woof.

    iTunes Hacked

With iTunes, you can buy digital versions of songs for 99 cents apiece, or 9.99 or less for a whole digital album. The catch - beyond the fact that you have to pay - is that you can only burn the songs onto a limited number of CDs and copy them onto a limited number of computers. I think the file extension is .AAC or something like that. In any case, I think what this guy did basically circumvents the encryption Apple built into that file-type, and instead makes iTunes songs just like any old mp3, able to be burned and copied an infinite number of times. Unless he actually hacked the iTunes system itself, which would be incredibly impressive...
