So Andrew Bogut is getting a 5-year, $72 million extension. Really? I know he's improving a bit year by year, but $14 million/year? I feel like Michael Bluth talking about Ann. Him?

Not bad. However, after clicking around a bit on youtube, the song "Good Friday" is exactly the kind of terrible thing that formed my previous impressions. It appears most of the other terrible stuff I've heard is off their 2003 album Oaklandazulasylum.

There was an article in the New York Times about Jennings a few weeks ago, and some follow-up all around the internets. I remember the idea being bandied about for Derrick Rose as well, I think. The question is: is Jennings good enough to actually get playing time on a Euro team? I agree that this exposes a huge flaw in the age limit (which is stupid anyway, except for purposes of making college basketball more marketable), but what are the options for an 18-year-old American going to Europe who isn't a clear LeBron/Dwight Howard type? Playing the role of Pat Burke on a quality Euroleague team? Getting some minutes in one of the smaller leagues? I don't see a Euro team really making that big a commitment to a prospect who clearly doesn't want to stick around longer than the NBA age limit requires of him. I guess you could do worse than spending a year in Europe at least practicing with pros and making a small amount of cash vs. a semester of college ball.

I'm not sure about Why? On the sampling of songs I've heard, they sound a little too much like those shitty rappers on "Where There's A Will, There's A Whalebone" from the first Islands album.

I really like the self-titled. For me, it's exceeded only by The Queen Is Dead on their proper albums. I'd probably take one of the compilations over it, sure, but they weren't eligible. Anyway, I'll vote. 1. MiB. Seeing as we stole each other's albums all draft, no shock here. I actually own and love every single album on his list except for the Talk Talk one. Which I once downloaded anyway. 2. Milky. The last quarter or so deviates from stuff I like a lot, but he has the best representation of genre classics and probably the most varied list. Definitely wouldn't get bored with this collection. 3. incandescent. Banky actually has a bunch of albums I haven't heard, but I love the ones I have and again, there's a sort of exceptional bright variety here. Wolf Parade, Daft Punk, Prince, Nirvana, and a big collection of jazz and Dylan would make it last. Honorable mention to The Sperm, who put together a very strong assemblage of my second-or-third favorite albums by several artists. I also very much dug the first half of Steviekick's list, as it contains a lot of albums I'd consider formative favorites.

I was considering Homogenic in the Dummy spot, too. A quick list of 20 untakens, without checking against yous guyses: Stankonia Doolittle Slanted & Enchanted Aladdin Sane Nevermind (Absolutely amazing that this didn't go!) Mezzanine Taking Tiger Mountain (Eno) The Blueprint Homogenic You Forgot it in People (Broken Social Scene) Summerteeth (Wilco) Rubber Soul Small Change (Tom Waits) Painful (Yo La Tengo) Get Happy!! (Elvis Costello) Loaded (VU) The Smiths Beggar's Banquet First Issue (PiL) Any one of several untaken Talking Heads albums

I bet fewer than half of the participants vote, but yes, that seems like a fine idea.

Three kids at 25. Terrifying! Congrats, though, if you're into that sort of thing.

All-Time NBA Draft (THE RESULTS ARE IN THE FIRST POST)
Edwin MacPhisto replied to Brett Favre's topic in Sports
This came together pretty well, incompleters aside. There are 3-4 teams on here that are absolute killers. I love Cuban Linx's setup, especially the decision to have Mikan/Sampson rotate rather than split C/PF duties. -
Supreme Court upholds the Right to Bear Arms

This is 110% how it's done. I'm not sure how I feel about this business. On one hand I think regulation is smart, because fuck-all if I want idiots with heavy-duty weapons. On another hand, I think national standards for guns can be problematic because of the reasons Agent laid out; in a major urban area, I might see guns-4-all as a miserable idea quite likely to backfire horrifically, but in rural areas where you're 20 minutes from supposed authority, there's absolutely common sense working there. On a mysterious third (gripping) hand, my roommate borrowed a friend's AR-15 with a reflex sight this weekend, and it's kind of the best thing ever. After playing with it for 5 minutes, I totally get why people shoot stuff. -
I want a box of candy cigarettes! So how long do we think it'll be before Seattle has a chance to use those colors and name again? Do they have a better chance of getting an expansion or grabbing a team that actually deserves be moved, like Memphis, when their own lease runs out? I can't see an actual expansion happening particularly soon, since Charlotte just came into existence a few years ago.
-
What do you expect, honestly? Even you acknowledge that the move Bennett and Stern pulled was in large part contemptible bullshit, even if it's not the fault of Oklahoma City's citizens. As I said several months ago, the success of the team would somewhat validate the move and set a terrible precedent, and a Just John said a few posts back, piling on OKC is the natural reaction, because they benefit at Seattle's vast expense. Just turn off ESPN if it bothers you that much.

Even if he washes out again, we'll always have this. I agree on Arenas. Butler was their best player last year, and he costs the least out of these three guys. Arenas is a huge marketing boon to the Wizards here in D.C., moreso than most star players are to their particular franchises, but they're going to need to do better than 43 wins and a 5 seed to make the $30 mil a year they've put back into Jamison and Gilbert worthwhile from an actual basketball standpoint.

"Lost in the Harbour" was in consideration, but couldn't quite get there. From the 2002 releases, "Another Man's Vine" would edge it out as well.
-
No, I get the most enjoyment out of it when I put it on shuffle and listen to maybe 45 minutes to an hour of music. The whole thing in one dose is pretty overwhelming even if I like almost every song individually.

Maybe you can rent a car to Robert Swift some day.

The Warriors are attempting some Hutchinson/Burleson vengeance and have offered Elton Brand a multi-year max deal. Amusement reigns. I'm a little disappointed the Cavs didn't try to work out some kind of sign and trade for Davis, even if they don't really have anyone another team would want. The thought of a LeBaron double-mega-beard team is too facially awesome to deny.
-
So a few sources have the Wizards offering Arenas $120 million or more on a 6-year deal. That strikes me as an awful lot to burn on a guy who missed almost all of last season and hasn't yet shown that he's still great. I guess the idea is that they can be top-flight if Jamison, Butler, and Arenas all stay uninjured, but they've each gotten plenty banged up over the last three years.

Hilarious to start, but topped by the "Back in Black" riffs in "99 Problems." Awesome. I want Plagiarism! storytime!

Dorsett? I told VX to take him because Agent said that he was expecting to get Csonka or Dorsett, and Csonka went a couple rounds ago. If Jorge has Agent's list and wants to forward it to me, I'll gladly take over, but I probably don't have the time to actually pick through players if he didn't actually send one.

My Mac's HD died in April, and the power brick was pretty unreliable and had to be replaced as of last week. Which is pretty funny, because my old Dell laptop had the exact same problems have at almost the exact same points in the lifespan. Like clockwork, I say.

Oh, good call. I agree with that.
